Our problem with the dance group,  when you cruise a lot; is how many times do you have to watch same show? BBC Earth, how many times do we have to watch the snake siege?

Lincoln Center musicians received some pretty high wages and one has to wonder was the decision to not offer full time performances a cost reduction decision?

Are they still showing that BBC Earth snake island thing where they are trying to eat the newly hatched iguanas / lizards? We saw that on Nieuw Amsterdam in 2018!

Losing LC is a big disappointment to me, too. Give the Step One company in the showroom a try. The dancers are very good and the way they are choreographed with the visuals is impressive. I think four of their shows in 10 days was too many.  LC used to accompany the BBC nature videos. I haven't heard what's happening with that now.

I did see that the dance company was listed in the app a few evenings. I don't think I'd be interested watching them 4 times as you said. I'm open minded about it and just hope that there is enough of a variety so that we are not extremely bored. A comedian and what looks like a guest vocalist was also listed but they were also listed on two different evenings. I am assuming that there is no singers and dancers cast on HAL. I will miss the LC and BBC Earth performance!

I am on the ship currently and commented above. Basically no Lincoln Center and they have not refurbished the room. Sitting there with a lone piano on the stage and empty chairs. They have not been on Main Stage either. Employees said new carpeting in dining areas and some new furnishing. I have never been on Eurodam before so can’t really say what’s different but could look if there are specific questions.

That is very VERY upsetting since one of the reasons we chose this over Celebrity is that we both loved Lincoln Center Stage! We don't really care for BB Kings and Billboard is normally competing with the casino slots noise. I had already heard that there is no America's test kitchen anymore. This is going to be a very long, boring 10 days ahead.

Our favorite stateroom. Yes, it has a bit more space in the added triangle by the couch. (see deck plan) The desk is one continuous piece, not broken up.

You can view images of 7080 at halfacts.com     7079 on Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam have same configuration on the starboard side.

    Thank you so much Suzy!

We decided to upgrade and this was one of the choices so we took a chance since we were on the phone with our TA and HAL. I couldn't get much out of HAL but it just looked like the safe, right choice for the same $$.  I'll look for the images you suggest and I so thank you for the quick reply and advice! I love Cruise Critic! LOL. I have a YouTube Channel, See More Seas, and will be reviewing our upcoming Sailing with this rare SY Signature Suite. Thanks again!

  5. Hello Gang! I am not sure that this thread is still active but I wanted to know with this 7080 bend (bump) layout, is there more room inside the cabin? Is the desk along the outside wall still as large or is it broken up? We just upgraded to the SY Signature Suite for our 10 day Panama Canal sailing. We have been in a SS on the Nieuw Amsterdam and love the space, bathroom and balcony but wanting some input on the SY category on the bend or hump. It looks larger.....

  6. Hey there Team!  We are on the Solstice in AK for June 2022.  This is a three time booking like most of you starting from an Italy booking then AK then a lift and shift to another AK for 2022.  I saw the YouTube video below that shows veranda cleaning equipment parked outside of the Corner Aft Sky Suites.  The owner of the video confirmed that this equipment was parked there for the entire week.  We picked this location for an Alaska sailing so that we had maximum views of the beautiful scenery.  Please help me understand if this is going to be there every day and if it is an actual obstruction to your view.  Also if this is located on every deck and parked at the aft at the Sky Suite on every Solstice Class ship?

I bid 1 step up from the least amount possible and won my Penthouse upgrade just over 2 weeks out! You need to be careful cause if you look at the meter if you go all in you more than likely paying more for the room than if you had just booked it in the first place Go for bare minimum if you are already happy with your room choice and if you get it It's just that more Suite!!

Thanks for the information and advice.  I checked what the going rate for the haven suites were and are before I made my bid.  I am well below for this sailing and for same ship/itinerary several months out. I think I'm going to adjust down some, though I am comfortable with the $$ for what we would be getting.

  8. Thank you everyone!  This has been helpful.  I experienced a bid upgrade opportunity recently on Celebrity Edge and was awarded a suite upgrade far below the advertised price for that level cabin.  We had an amazing "Retreat" experience.  I received a bid opportunity on Breakaway late July 2019 and jumped on all Haven categories.  I am in the FAIR areas for most of the available Haven Suites - about double of minimum.  Since there are less of these categories, do I need to bump up my bids or should I stay put?  We are going from standard balcony to Haven Spa (H9) and above... H7, H6, H5.   I'm not experienced with NCL ships.

If your S2 is on the side, I think all the beds face the ocean. The s3 could be sideways as well. The S1 on the aft are sideways configuration.

Here is a you tube on 9177 on the Edge.

Thank you so much!  Either configuration, I think we are good to go with swivel TV.  We are 10 Forward, Starboard.  I overlooked this YouTube since it was filmed with the vertical camera vs horizontal.

  10. We are booked in a SKY SUITE S2 and have seen conflicting bed configurations - one facing the balcony and others with a standard configuration, facing the flat screen TV.  More of the S3 reviews show the balcony facing config than the S2.  My question is about the balcony facing configuration.  Can someone confirm what config comes with the S2? If the king bed is facing the balcony with the flat screen TV to the side, does the TV tilt towards the bed?  That configuration does not seem to be optimal for some down time movie watching in our extremely nice cabin.  Yes, we like to veg in the cabin some sea days and just watch some TV or a movie.

  11. That sounds great - we love the Martini Bar on the S class due to the good energy and friendliness.  I had read some other posts regarding that the Grand Plaza was too over the top and the very large chandelier was very distracting and music was overpowering so much that you could not carry on a conversation.

I can't comment on dinner in Eden but what is your specific concern about the Martini bar? On S-class ships during the Elite Cocktail hours they are never whisper quiet and actually they are the center of activity. No different on the Edge. We happen to be there a couple of nights around 6:40 and the Martini bar along with the whole Grand Plaza was abuzz with activity. In my opinion it was a nice kind of crowded,in other words it provided a nice atmosphere. And that's exactly the atmosphere the designers of the bar had in mind. The sound levels were no different then the Martini bars on S-class ships at the same hour. The chandelier does flicker but it's not distracting like a Times Square Billboard. It only took a few minutes for us to get our drinks at the bar. The attached photo is from the time period I just described.  I wasn't looking to capture the crowd but if you look carefully you can see the groups of people congregating around the bar.

  13. I am very concerned about the dinner booking we made for Eden.  The last thing that I want is for a spaced-out edenist to be in my face while eating an EXPENSIVE up charge dinner.   Can someone tell me when all the strange performances begin in Eden?  We have 6:30 reservations so I am hoping that it won't be too bad.  I also noticed a few posts regarding the strobe lights and loud music in the main martini bar area.  Is this constant or just later in the evening?  We don't sail until the end of March so hopefully X will get this under control before then.  We love the S class ships and are hoping for the same high level of service and modern luxury.

  14. I just got off the phone with an excellent Captain's Club person who spent a lot of time trying to figure this out. I was on hold for 20 minutes and then she called me back an hour later after talking to various people. She still hadn't gotten to the bottom of this and said she would call me back with more details when she had them (likely not today).

She said that there wasn't anything about the T pool in their info and at first wondered if it was the salt cave part of the thermal suites, but I pointed out the paragraph on the website: "Submerge yourself in deep relaxation with this 7-day pass to our Thermal Suite and our Thalassotherapy Pool, an oasis complete with grottos, chaise lounges, and a natural bubbling salt-water spring that will wash your cares away."

She talked to more people and they wondered if, because of that specific wording online about the grottos, loungers, etc., it possibly could be something that will be announced for the Edge and was just placed on the website too soon. She said that she would work to track it down and get back to me.

Her gut feeling was that it would be included in AQ, but she wasn't sure so would check that as well. She said that she couldn't find anything about day passes, but that didn't mean that they wouldn't eventually be offered.

So, no real new info, but she was leaning toward this being real with details to be announced (of course, maybe they are announcing it soon and she just couldn't say anything). Either way, she sounded very interested in getting to the bottom of this, so we have a Captain's Club detective at work. :D

VT! Please let me know what you find out. We are on the Edge in March and will actually do the 7 day couples pass but can not book it at this point but see it as an option on cruise planner. I would rather do a day pass if available of course.

  15. Thanks VT for doing the detective work! This is my first Aqua cabin and probably only time I will book it (unless I get pricing close to reg verandas) and I want to make sure I don't miss a thing!

Thank you for checking! I was trying to book the 7 day couples just to have a place holder but couldn't. Waiting to hear what the final deal is

  16. Hello!

I am on the August 3 night sailing and I need to maximize my time on board. I reserved a cabana because i had a bad experience getting off Anthem of the Seas at CoCoCay last year, may I ask if any one knows how/when/where we reserve our cabana? I hear we do when we get on board, but i am not sure, and not sure where to go......

    Thank you!!

    Kelly

Get to the port early (11:00) and board right away. Go straight to the excursions desk and pick your cabana. I was just on the 3-day, July 6-9, and was lucky to be the 3rd to choose. You can only do this once onboard. I will also say that they did not sell out and about 50% were booked.

Some items to note: The cabanas have been moved from up front to over by the jet ski facility. There are no bathrooms close by and the "bar" at the cabana club is very lightly stocked and had very little variety - no frozen drinks. The meal service is fantastic and convenient. The snorkel equipment is NOT in your cabana. You will need to walk back to the entrance to the Snorkel Shop and get your equipment using the voucher given to you at the Cabana Club check in booth. If anyone has mobility issues, please stop and get a beach wheelchair because they will need it.

  17. We haven't cruised a 4-nighter in awhile. What are the men wearing these days on formal night?

I was just on the 3 day Mariner, July 6-9, and there was not a formal night and from previous posts, I understand that it is the same for the 4 night. We did see SEVERAL fellow passengers dress for night two. If you enjoy the formal nights, go for it. You will have plenty of company. You can get away with anything from a collared shirt and slacks, to sport coat with or without tie, all the way to a Tux! I wore jeans and a polo shirt each night and was fine. Hope you enjoy yourself!

  18. We were on Mariner’s first 4 day Bahamas sailing out of Miami. Just wanted to give some quick first impressions:

    The hits:

    1. The ship is in great condition. Almost everything looks like new.

    2. The water slides, flow rider, hammocks, new mini-golf course etc. all provide a lot of action and fun for families.

    3. Less space devoted to retail sales on the promenade. The sports bar replaced one upscale shop.

4.Great entertainment line up. If you ever have a chance to see Resurrection: A Journey Tribute you must. DW and I went back for the second show.

    5. Very friendly and good service.

    6. Quick and easy embarkation and debarkation.

    The Misses:

1.No Eggs Benedict in the MDR for breakfast. (Please tell me this isn’t fleet wide.)

    2. The interactive TV was not working, so you could not use it for ordering room service, reserving excursions, checking stateroom balances, watch PPV movies etc.

    3. When Coco Cay is fully upgraded it will be an amazing family experience. Until the the ports of call are nothing to write home about.

We missed not having a formal night. I know some will be glad to hear that it is off the agenda, but we like to get dressed up at least once on a cruise.

I just got off the July 6-9 and had Eggs Benedict for breakfast in the MDR each morning of the cruise (2 of the 3 days). They have all the traditional side options and a fruit / cereal / muffin buffet to supplement anything not on the menu. Each Benedict came with hash browns and grilled tomato. We added bacon / sausage / corn beef hash / etc as desired.

There is not a formal night though many dressed for night 2 in the MDR. If you are looking for photos, the new digital photo stations blur the pictures and overlay a RCI logo on them so you can not view them very well.

I will agree that the public spaces of the ship are well refurbished and look fantastic as well as the fun additions to the pool and sports decks. The additions to the Royal Promenade are uninspiring in my opinion though it looks fantastic.

The food in the MDR is below average and the service was also below average all over the entire ship. This is either a brand new crew who are not comfortable or confident in their roles or a tired crew who just wants their contract to be over. We were highly disappointed in the level of service we expect from RCI.

  19. What would be the earliest flight out of Miami I should book after disembarkation? I plan on carrying my own bags off and I have a choice of 2 flights out.... one at 9.30am and one at 6.00pm. I would really prefer the earlier flight but would I make it in time?

We were on the July 6-9 sailing and we did self assist walk off and were out of customs by 7:15 am. They say they start walk off at 7:00 am but the ship arrived at around 5:30 and was cleared by 6:40. Most ships have the Windjammer open at 6:00 am and folks start lining up on deck 4 at around 6:30 for a 7:00 walk off. Mariner has the windjammer open at 6:30 so we were close to first in line, finished eating, back to the cabin for the luggage, and was off the ship by 7:00. We were absolutely the only ones on deck 4 and went from ship through customs in less than15 minutes. The people lined up must have missed breakfast and departed before us leaving the lines completely empty. If you have an early flight, I strongly suggest you do the self assist walk off and grab some breakfast too!

A 9:30am flight is probably not going to work for you. Port of Miami is not that close to the airport and may not allow you enough time to go through TSA and get to the gate. You will be cutting it VERY close.

  20. We just experienced the water taxi to Atlantis and though somewhat fun, it was extremely difficult to arrange and get to. It is a far walk to the "dock" where they wait. We had someone in our party that was in a wheelchair and mobility challenged. She was fully able to walk short distances and traverse basic areas but the heat and wait is just not worth it. Even without any mobility issues, the water taxi drops you off several blocks from Atlantis and the signs pointing to the entrance are not provided at all. TAKE A STANDARD TAXI TO ATLANTIS by all means. It is the same price and they drop you off at the main ticket holder entrance.

  21. I just got off the Mariner earlier today and had a fabulous time. It was a VERY quick cruise (2 days), but myself and other coworkers were invited so 1. We can test out the customer service and renovations to make sure guests will have an amazing time and 2. We can have our own personal experience that we can share with others so they will want to sail on this beautiful ship. The staff was great and I have no complaints from my end. I will be limited to answer certain questions, as this sailing was made up of RCCL employees. However, I know everyone is seeking photos of the redesign, so that's what I'll be posting. Enjoy!

P.S. - I apologize in advance, but the photos will appear mixed together, as I couldn't figure out to organize the photos while using Flickr

Thanks for posting! I've been waiting for someone from that 2-day to post some pictures. Very disappointing about no cabin refurbishment.

  22. Contact Gerard at gerardblewis@hotmail.com. He has accessible vehicles. You meet him outside the vendor area, so a bit of a walk to get to any transportation. He has ramped, as well as lift vehicles. Do not forget the b in the address!

Since he is private, you might inquire about a little scenery ride as well with some history as Atlantis is a 10-15 ride at most. He is very knowledgeable and reliable. He does not combine groups.

Taking the Atlantis tour is bought at the main desk...bracelet. They set you up with the elevator and a guide, but you push the chair the entire time, inside and out....all flat, but about 45 minutes and a small group. Quite a bit of walking if you do both ends.

There is also a ramp that goes down to the Marina shopping complex....left side outside past the staircase 1/2 way down. Pretty, eateries and shops.

With the DIG, tour, a little casino, shops inside and Marina area, 4 hours go fast if she is up to it all. Enjoy.
