It all sounds so easy.  I'd take bets it doesn't turn out that way.  We won't know if ours worked until we get back in September.  I'd love to hear experiences from anyone who uses them earlier.

I was surprised to see the FCC's arrive today.  Just a few days late, really, for Royal, that's a lot better than I expected so maybe I shouldn't be pessimistic.

I'm still waiting for FCC!  Was supposed to have my FCC by 2/4.  Trying to book a cruise for two weeks from now, but would really appriate our FCC first.  Last week when I called they said I'd have an e-mail by this week, but nothing yet.  I'm on the phone again - two hours and counting....

We sail from barcelona on the 28th June.we can't wait, although it all sounds a bit daunting since we are newbies!! I'm sure we'll be fine.

How exciting!!!  They are used to lots of newbies on board, and are very gracious with answering question.  They will guide you through the embarktion routine.  Our first European cruise on MSC was a dream!  It's different than how we do things in the USA, but different isn't wrong!

I  can't remember who asked when boarding begins...  In our experience, they begin boarding as soon as the previous passengers that are disembarking do so (our cruise had multiple boarding stops).  We arrived at 9am to the port in Kiel, Germany, and were allowed to check our baggage, but were encouraged to explore the town until 11.  We returned at 11 after a delightful couple hours of "touristing" and were in one of the first boarding groups.  Other ports may be different.

    Bon Voyage!

  3. My husband and I love their escagot and ordered it with every meal. Even when it wasn't on the menu, our waiter was able to find some for us. We also enjoyed lamb, prime rib, and a few other dishes of things we don't have at home (or at least wouldn't think of).

Our only disappointment is that the menu in the MDR keeps shrinking and the menu from ship to ship is nearly identical.

Was the food 5 star every night? No. Did I love being served a 3 course meal I didn't have to prepare or clean up? ABSOLUTELY! Plus, our wait staff has always been very attentive, keeping our glasses full, getting to know us and our preferences. We fully enjoy the MDR experience.

  4. We were on Fantasia last summer and found it delightful! We were seated at a table with other English speakers. We didn't have any difficulty with bottlenecks at meals, but we did not use the buffet at all. The ice cream area was often very busy and was the only place we really waited for any length of time.

For what it is worth, we enjoyed the multicultural feel and meeting people from all over the world!

  5. We booked last week while on board Liberty. 6 rooms for a party of 12 in July 2019 (25th or something around there).

We've cruised Alaska prior on NCL and Norway on MSC. We enjoyed the cooler cruises. We brought our slippers and sweaters and drank our morning coffee on our balcony. It is truly amazing to be floating down the fjords and relaxing with a coffee on the balcony. We also set up our camera on the tripod and were able to take pictures without tripping over others. Absolutely stunning photos I have framed in my living room.

270 will offer great views and am looking forward to the North Star (I think that's what it's called???).

  6. I rented a car in San Juan in December. I had hoped to visit the rain forest, but it was still closed. Thus, I only drove locally. The only problem we had was dropping part of our group off at the cruise port. No traffic control. 4 vehicles trying to get into 2 lanes, and we got rubbed. Fortunately, it buffed out, so no penalty.

Many traffic lights were not functional in December. I would hope they are fixed now. Signs were down too, making it difficult to know where to go. GPS on my phone was very helpful. We didn't have any difficulty, but I was very careful. Stop signs are only suggestions to many.

It was better than driving in Mexico!

  7. Don't get there early- it's a zoo! There is no long term parking, so everyone getting on/off needs a ride. It took us an hour to leave the pier after dropping off part of our group. It's mass chaos with no traffic control. My rental car even got rubbed by another car. 2 should be a great time to show up!

  8. There are Ag checks right inside the main doors and off to the side. Sorry, I'm not sure how this related to the Southwest counter. I didn't even see it when I entered, because I wasn't looking forward it to close to the door!

  9. We are not sure what is available to do in San Juan since the hurricanes

We realize that we want to support their economy and need some suggestions ?

Anyone booked to stay in Hampton inn and suites Jan 5 and 6

Hope their website is correct - I have also called them and they assure that reservation will be secure !??

    Thanks

We spent a couple days there before our Dec 2 cruise. We spent one day in Old San Juan and another day on the beach and walking through the neighborhood of our airbnb. Both days we had no difficulty finding open places to eat and shop. Traffic lights are still out, so driving was interesting but doable.

  10. We just arrived back in San Juan this morning after the first half of our B2B. I was pretty tired so the captain delayed sunrise for a couple of hours so I could get a little extra sleep.

Once again having status makes all the difference.

Where's a gold when you need one?
Sorry, I was still rowing. You should have sent your butler to fetch me.

  11. Thanks everyone. Our ports are as follows

    St Maarten

    St Kitts

    Antigua

    St Lucia

    Barbados

I spent 4 days in San Juan prior to my 12/2 cruise. We had a great time and saw lots of things. There are areas without power, but most have generators. Street lights are still mostly out. We didn't have any trouble driving our rental car.

Visited all those islands except St. Maarten. You could see some damage in places, but but it didn't affect our trip.

The locals are very happy we were there and wish more ships would return. Some islands are only getting half the ship traffic they are used to, according to the locals I talked to.

  12. How do you get to the forts from the pier? Is it a taxi ride or is it walkable?
We walked. It was uphill and hot, but doable. There were ice cream vendors that we bought from a couple times!

  13. Our traveling party of 8 (4 adults/4 kids) just found out our rooms were cancelled at the Holiday Inn in San Juan for THIS SATURDAY! I know several on here have commented that they're booking back up rooms in case something happens with their reservation. Does anyone have back up rooms that they will possibly cancel for Saturday night (12/2)? We have a "worst case scenario" room reserved, but it's not somewhere I really want us to stay. :o
We booked an airbnb for our party of 8. Our host has been very informative and helpful.

  14. Your doctor,was she Diamond.
Our proctologist is Platinum! I'm the gold nurse. We ensure all our Platinum patients receive warmed-up KY and we only use scopes made from diamonds and coated in Platinum to ease the journey.

As I, your gold nurse, ease you, the Royalty, into slumber and with the utmost gentleness and place top-of-the-line medical equipment into you, you should sweetly dream about being kind to your underlings! You never know when they might have some inadvertent power over your crack.

(Mr Cigar, I'm looking forward to meeting you in a few weeks! I enjoy your humor!)

  15. I read El Yunque is closed. Any thoughts on when it will be open to visit again? I'm not seeing a lot of info on it.
I would like to know too!!

  16. Wow, I thought there would be more families from USA. I like the international feel, things are more relaxed and easygoing.
I thought so too! The prices are hard to beat! It's what attracted us!
