  1. I fell out with P&O in 2012 when they stopped me taking my small travel scooter in a normal cabin.  I didn't want to book an accessible cabin as I felt there was so few of them and  other people needed them more than me. When I discussed  the matter with them they were very off hand and made me feel like a second class citizen.

Since then I have cruised with Celebrity, Royal Caribbean & Princess all have been far superior.  In less than a week I will be cruising  with Celebrity in an accessible cabin, it will be the first time i have used an accessible cabin as my mobility has deteriorated.  Until a few weeks ago there were still accessible balcony cabins available, as they have so many more of them and its easy to book one online

  2. Hi. I will be on the Beyond next May and we have two tender ports.   I use a small travel mobility scooter and usually i can't take that on Celebrity tenders.   I was wondering if anyone has taken their scooters ashore on an Edge class ship using the magic carpet.

  3.  I had a cabin on the Eclipse which had this configuration, and had my Pride go go scooter with me [41" x 19.5"] and i kept it pushed right up to the cabin door, we could still access the bathroom, but not able to completely open the bathroom door.  You should be able to manage ok the rest of the cabin is very roomy.  If you still think you will struggle you could always see if you can change to a cabin with the bed by the balcony you would have no problem at all then

  4. I have flown many times with my travel  scooter both in the US and Europe.  I have always informed the airline in advance as they advise you to do.  When I had my Pride Go Go with the Gel battery the whole scooter was just pushed up a ramp into the hold, but last year a bought a lightweight one with a lithium battery and then you have to take the battery into the cabin with you.  You must put it it a bag and you can take this on board as extra hand luggage.

  5. Thank you all very much for taking the trouble to give your advice. You have certainly given me a lot to think about.  I use a mobility scooter and travel with another female friend and neither of us would want to drive, but every year we go on an adventure and  have had some amazing holidays.  We love traveling “across the pond” as the US is so much more accessible than Europe.  I will have a look at some land based tours to add to the cruise, as an option to the Rocky Mountaineer and also at taking one or more internal flights.

  6. If your scooter is a small one ie the size of a pride Go Go you will not have a problem. Mine fit fine and did as I always do take the battery off the scooter to charge it.  Of course you have less room to move around, but you can always ask for the coffee table to be taken out ( it might fit in the wardrobe)  to give you more space.

  7. I also use a mobile scooter and 3 years ago visited Kings Wharf over 2 days on the Anthem of the seas. The first day there we caught the ferry to Hamilton with no problems.

On the second day we were going to just get a taxi to take us around, but we’re lucky enough to meet Juanita as we got off the ship. She runs bermudaislandtours.com  and took us on a 5 hour tour of the island on her mini bus. She just put my scooter in the bus and got it out when I needed it. As far as I can remember it was about $50 per person and we’ll worth it.  Hope this is useful

  8. Thanks for your replies.  We also need a cruise that departs and returns to Vancouver to fit in with our itinerary.  We have travelled with both Royal Caribbean and Celebrity before and enjoyed both.  HAL would also fit our itinerary but we think it would not be as much to our taste.  Now edging towards the Serenade one, just wish Hubbard Glacier was on that one, but I'm looking for perfection (even though I know that's never possible) I'm sure we will have an amazing time which ever one we decide on.

  9. I am hoping to do an Alaska cruise in 2020 and also the Rocky Mountaineer.  As I will be traveling from the UK this will be a once in a lifetime holiday so want to get it right  I have got two cruises in mind and can not decide which would be best.  I have made a list of pros and cons but it's just too close to call.

Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas

    Ketchikan 7.00 to 16.00

    Juneau 9.00 to 20.30

    Skagway 7.00 to 2030

Tracy Arm fjord Cruising 7.00 to 12.00

    Celebrity Eclipse

Icy Strait point  15.00 to 22.00

Hubbard glacier cruising 10.30 to 14.30

    Juneau  7.30 to 20.00

    Ketchikan 14.00 to 20.30

I am edging towards the Celebrity one as it includes the Hubbard glacier, but the times in port aren't as good and it doesn't go to Skagway.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  10. I would consider buying a Pride Go Go for your trip.  They can be bought for the price of about 4 weeks hire charge and then you have the benefit of being able to use it in the future, or selling it when you return.  I had a Go Go for many years which went on planes, ships and trains and worked out much cheeper than hiring one. As I need to use a scooter more these days I have just treated myself to a very light weight scooter with suspension, which was much more expensive, but we have to treat ourselves sometimes.

  11. Hi   I uses a mobility scooter and when I went to St Petersburg six years ago we did a 2 day tour with Alla Tours. They were magnificent, we had a wonderful time and saw much more than those who did ships tours. I would have a look at their  website and see if any of the tours appeal and the email Alla, who was extremely helpful.

  12. Hi,   I can't help with Norway but have done both Vigo and Lisbon on my scooter.

Vigo  One of the easiest port I have ever been to.  The ships dock next to a multi story shopping centre. Go into the shopping centre and take the lift  to the next to the top floor ( I forget which floor it is, we went up one too many first go)  you are then in the centre of Vigo with out going up a very very steep hill.  Just after you get to the top there is a very nice square which is great for people watching and a drink.  Vigo is flat and very easy to get round.

Lisbon  Ships can dock in several different docks, our ship docked a little way out of the centre but ran a shuttle to the Praca do Comercio, this area is very flat (some of Lisbon is very hilly)  There is much to see around this area and very enjoyable. Our plan was to then get the shuttle to Jeronimos Monastery, but after a long wait for the shuttle because of the very heavy traffic we went straight back to the ship.  The sail in and out of Lisbon are spectacular, one of my favourites  after Venice.

Depending on the size of the scooter, it is $235 to $425 for 1 week.  Are you over 300 pounds?  This one is $235 if you weigh under 300lbs.

Hi  I bought the same scooter as shown but the four wheel one.  It is a Pride Go go travel elite.  I bought mine in the UK for £450.00. It has paid for itself many times over.  I always have a standard balcony cabin and it fit through the door fine.  It has accompanied me on many cruises, flights, coaches and trains without problems

  14. Hi, I used my 4 wheel go go scooter in and ordinary balcony cabin on the Eclipes (Which is the same as the Equinox) with no problem at all. It fit through the door ok, you just have to get the angle right. I have had a look at the plan of an inside cabin and as long as your cabin has the bed near the far wall, there should be plenty of room, you can always ask for the coffee table to be removed if you want. As for the battery, just take it off the scooter to charge.
