  1. Debarkation always sucks in Galveston. I just learned to accept it and wait. Nothing else you can really do. We just mentally prepare ourselves for a long morning. We don't rush one bit (since we drive in) and it saves us a ton of stress.

After the new terminal is finished, maybe it'll get better.

  2. Hi there. I've done extensive research on this and so far I've learned that the suites are the only rooms that were planned to receive LCD TVs during the last refurb. However, there's been an exception. The handicap accessible rooms (at least on Deck 10) (1001-1004) have had new LCD TVs installed. I have confirmed this with two rooms of those four. I'm assuming that if those two rooms were upgraded, so would the other two next door.

The regular interiors, ocean views, and balconies have the old style TVs. However, if a TV was to go out, I'm betting that they would replace it with a newer style TV rather than replacing with an old one. That may explain why some have LCD and some don't.

  3. I never purchased FTTF and was still on board around 11am when we sailed on the Magic. That was good enough for us.

Both cruise terminals run very smooth during embarkation, even on Sundays when the two largest ships in Galveston embark/debark. As others have said, debarkation sucks big time, but if you're patient, it's not too bad.

  4. Hi, we just boarded the NOS a few hours ago. Awesome ship so far.

I have a question. The ocean view window in our room has that salty residue all over it. I know since it's close to the water (Deck 2) that it gets sprayed with ocean water while sailing. Are the windows cleaned at certain ports? I remember our balcony glass was cleaned in Jamaica last September. I was wondering if they do the same thing with Ocean View windows, or if they just let them be because they will get dirty again anyways?

    Thanks...

  5. You will be able to leave it when the cabin stewards come back on duty at around 5:30 Pm and it will be returned by the same time the next day. You can call and they will send someone to pick it up, but it is not necessary.

Okay, great, thanks for the quick reply. And I'm honored to know that your 1,000th post was to answer my question. ;)

  6. I have read on the RCI website that we can only bring wine on board. How strict are they on water bottles and juice boxes (for our 4 year old)? Also, can we bring snacks, like goldfish, apple sauce, etc.?

There's so much food available, including room service, so we don't bring any snacks for our little boy. :D

  7. I use Galveston Park-n-Cruise because I prefer indoor parking. It's nice coming back to a clean car. (Well, I usually detail it before drop off)

It costs about 15-20 bucks more than everywhere else when you choose indoor parking (on a 7 day) but it's worth it to me.

Also, there's no shuttle required. You just walk across to the terminal. You should drop off your bags with a porter at the terminal first though.

  8. Hi, we are cruising with our 3 year old in 2 months.

He went with us 6 months ago on a 7 day cruise and he did just fine. In fact, he loved it. It was a little hard dropping him of at daycare on board but like any kid, he got used to it. He loved all the food and activities throughout the ship.

Definitely consider rooms other than balconies. We made the mistake of having the balcony with him, and it was a pain. He kept trying to sneak outside. When he was on the balcony with us, he would constantly try to climb to see everything without the glass obstruction. Very dangerous. This time, we booked an interior room. We will miss the balcony though.

Carnival did a daycare introduction type activity the first night. It was to get the kids and staff introduced to each other. It was like a big party. Not sure if RCI does it, but it was a good idea.

  9. I purchased a cruise on Royals website. The total cost at purchase was $3927 and I deposited $500. I checked the website yesterday and it said the total price was $4778 and I owe 4278. Hopefully it's a glitch with the website. I contacted customer service and they validated the correct purchase price however the website is still displaying the wrong price. Has anyone experienced this?

I booked a military rate a few months ago, and the discount disappeared for a few minutes, then went back to normal.

  10. We sailed Sept 2013. We were lucky with the tropics being calm, but it wasn't an average year. It's all luck of the draw.

Jamaica, Cayman, and Cozumel were hot and humid like no other.

We've decided to sail in May this year. Pretty much no risk of hurricanes, tropical weather, etc, and the prices are very similar, if not less, than Aug.

  11. I agree not to take the kids to Carnival's production shows. They are definitely inappropriate and I considered walking out (I'm 25).

RC has better shows, Carnival has better food. RC has more activities, Carnival has better prices. So, it depends on which of those is more important to you.

I only saw "Vegas Style" clothing, but nothing super bad.

  12. I would compare individual ships, also.

For example: My son LOVED the Carnival Magic because of Water Works. Our next cruise ship, the Navigator of the Seas, doesn't have one. We LOVED the Punchliner Comedy Club on the Magic, but the Navigator doesn't have that club because it's specific to Carnival (obviously) BUT I hear the shows and ice-shows are EXCELLENT on the Navigator...a lot of comparisons can be done.

I hear a lot of people compare the cruise line in general, but I think it's important to compare the actual ships you want to sail on.

    Hope this helps!

  13. I'm glad we didn't buy it for our Magic cruise.

Arrived at port at 10, eating lunch on Lido a little after 11. Only brought a stroller and bag as carry on. Room was ready by 1:00pm.

Got to Cayman. Ate breakfast and took elevator down to "0" and got right on the small boat for tendering.

We never really had to wait. Maybe we were just lucky but I would have been mad if we would have wasted the $$ on "FTTF."
