  1. It was about $75 last month on the Koningsdam. Though I never saw a single person in there, apart from the staff.

My husband and I observed the same thing. Not. A. Soul. The Panorama bar offered some Blend wine one night at Happy hour and it was not very good. That entire area would be better served with another venue.

  2. Hi Stellasister,

Our cruise did not got to Molde. This is probably too late to be of any help as you board tomorrow. But if you have the chance to go to Trollstigen from Molde, DO IT! We went from Alesund and it was the best part of our trip! We rented a car from Avis and went at our own pace, stopping and taking little hikes and pictures all along the way. If you do get the opportunity to go to Trollstigen, it is some of the most stunning scenery I’ve ever seen.

Enjoy your cruise and I hope you like the walk out to Lake Eidfjord as much as we did.

  3. We were in 7194 on the Koningsdam as well! We were on a Norway cruise and it was wonderful to be on the balcony during sail in/out of the fjords. The only time we felt motion, everyone else was feeling motion as well on the North Sea. We liked the room and had ample room to store our things. The shower is awesome!

  4. Stellasister,

We did this cruise the first week of June and loved it! I will share with you that Flat Earth in Eidfjord would not let us book directly with them, since they were reserving every single spot for the HAL kayak excursion. My kids were determined to kayak there, so they booked it through HAL. My husband and I went a different route and just walked along the road about a mile and a half or so to Lake Eidfjord then swung back and walked the grounds around the old church. Very nice day! The wildflowers were in full bloom and the lake was gorgeous.

  5. The Twizzy cars are fun! You can stop as much as you like on the way down from Dalsnibba. We chose to do that versus going up to Eagles road. You can stop at the Westeras farm, queens chair, Flydalsjuvet, a beautiful lake or two, waterfalls, etc. we did the 3 hour (+) and it was a lot of fun. Then we had beers as well as a yummy pancake with strawberry jam and cream at an outdoor cafe very close to the Twizzy car place. Then enjoyed walking around the waterfront and the steps beside the waterfall that runs right through town. You’ll love the port of Geiranger.

  6. I've been enjoying this thread as we leave on Thursday for Amsterdam with a Sunday departure on Koningsdam for Oslo. Maybe I'll have something of value to add in July...

You will enjoy both the ship and Norway, as well as Amsterdam!

Hope the Norway weather improves by your sail date. We read today there is snow in this week’s forecast for Geiranger and the road to Dalsnibba is closed due to snow. We were there the first week of June and the weather was perfect. Hope it turns out that way for you too. Enjoy your cruise!

  7. I understand your husband’s concerns. We did stop so frequently, that I don’t think my husband felt shorted, on the views. He was tired at the end of the day, but not horribly so. I remember he went and picked up the rental car about 8, and the kids and I met him at the parking lot about 8:30/8:45. We got back to port ( and we didn’t rush our day at all) about 5.

  8. One more thing, we stopped for lunch at a very pretty place, with very good food. Almost like a rest area/camp site. Very picturesque along a waterfall and river. It was called Gudbrandsjuvet. Highly recommend, but it was just along the side of the road in the countryside. We drove right past it, then saw the waterfall and turned around. Totally worth it! Got one of our best family pictures of the trip with the river in the background.

  9. It was so easy! Not a challenge at all. You really can’t get lost as it’s a pretty straightforward loop. We rented a car from Avis which is short walk from the port. We were very satisfied; diesel Volvo sedan, plenty of room for 4. We stopped so much along the way for short little hikes, or just to stop and take pictures. Really, an amazing day.

  10. We stayed at The Kimpton de Witt. Fabulous service, rooms were nice, beds comfy. Centrally located and tram runs right in front of hotel - the stop is right down the street. We utilized the concierge to purchase tram tickets; very helpful. Nice bar on sight with great bartenders; be sure to sample their punch, it’s complimentary. The complimentary wine hour each day is also fun. Great stay and I earned IHG points.

  11. I’m back! As predicted by many of your comments, our early morning arrival was a poor choice. We really should have arrived later. Even noontime would have been better. All was well by the next day though and w e were able to fully enjoy ourselves on our tour.

Now coming back was a different story. We are really struggling and both of us feel slightly ill and out of sorts.

It was a learning experience and now we know how to plan our next flights to Europe a little better! Thank you again for all your helpful suggestions!

  12. We just did Norway 7 night on the Koningsdam and we loved our itinerary. We visited Eidfjord, Alesund, Geiranger, and Bergen. Our favorite day was during the Alesund port. We rented a car and drove to Trollstigen. Completely awesome! We really enjoyed getting out of town and into the countryside. We were in port there from 7 or 8 to 11 PM. Highly recommend this trip! Waterfalls galore and scenery like no where else I’ve been. Have fun!

  13. For us, it was cheaper to rent a car in Alesund. The quote I got back from Geiranger taxi was a little high for our pocketbook. And this way, we’ll be able to freely stop whenever we see something we’d like to take a look at or photograph. We’re in port SO long that day (8am-11pm), this was a perfect solution to get to see some of the countryside. We plan to drive to Trollstigen.

  14. I can stuggle through once I get home. It will be not fun, I’m sure , to return to my job and be so exhausted, but I’ll make it! [emoji4].

Baggal, how’d you do flying in to Amsterdam? Are you of the opinion that it’s harder flying east to west?
