Hi all! I'm new to cruising and have never been on a boat/ship for more than a few hours at a time. To say that I'm terrified is an understatement. I am agoraphobic and claustrophobic and I have social anxiety. My husband and wife (we're poly) booked this cruise without my input for husband's birthday. We are also planning on doing our vows together since we haven't gotten around to it and it seems we'll never actually have the wedding and we've been married (as far as we're concerned) for a few years now. I don't want to go on this cruise. I want them to be able to go and have a great time! Without me. Unfortunately, my husband would rather just cancel the whole trip, but my wife is so excited! And she should be! I'm just so not. The thought of being away from land freaks me out. And only having my tiny cabin to retreat to away from people doesn't help at all! It's a Carnival Cruise and I have yet to see anything that looks like fun for me. I don't drink, I don't do casinos, I don't do group activities (with the one exception of my crossfit classes at my home gym), and I sunburn in shade. I'm also terrified of sharing a table with strangers at dinner! Yes, it is amazing that I'm still alive, and I barely cope at home as it is. How do I get through this "vacation" without completely ruining it for my husband and wife??? I'm ready to vomit from the anxiety and fear that on the cruise I'll be somewhere between bored and catatonic!
Stay home.

Wish they would sens his message to HAL. I too like the ocean vacations n, not a theme park. Have fun on B2B.

I’m sorry all that has changed. Maybe try a smaller ship. We loved the Prinsendam.
Totally agree with the noise and clients on the other ships, that’s why we have stayed with HAL.

Dutch Night
That was fun, and unique to HAL.

I'm a bit confused. I've been checking every week or two for excursions for our upcoming Alaska cruise, June 30, 2018. Today is the first day I've seen the excursions available. However, despite the itinerary including a service call at Tracy Arm Inlet, I don't see the Tracy Arm excursion. Unfortunately EXC is closed, so I cannot ask them about this right now. In the meantime, does anyone have any experience booking this excursion, and finding it unavailable at first, and then made available later? (Or alternatively, does anyone have any experience with this excursion booking up within a week or two of it being offered?)
Tracy Arm is usually full of ice. We ended up at Dawes Glacier instead.

I like the smaller ships, the unique itinerary, and the friendly staff.

Yes, put the wine in your carry on. We lost two bottles on our Australia trip and didn't retrieve the wine until we got back to Sydney! Lots of wine drinking in Sydney before we flew home!

You can get a copy of your onboard account statement any time, from the Front Desk (or from the Neptune Concierge if you are in a NS or PS).
If you want to minimize what you owe when you leave the ship, you can buy onboard credits in advance through the HAL website.
You can also access the ship's free website to check your account, order excursions, check itinerary, and more!

Now that I think about it. The only question we had was about a jar of Metamucil. Lol!

What a good idea to bring the labels, just to be safe. My pills are small so I always put them in smaller containers. No one has ever asked.

We just returned from a Caribbean cruise on the Eurodam, went to the Mariner's brunch primarily to get a tile....and no sign of tiles at all. We assumed this was another cut back.
What no tiles????
There goes my coffee table design!

I like the Mariner's Lunch because we end up sitting at a large table and meet more folks. The Captain gives a welcome, and they usually say how many 5 stars are on board or who has the most sea days, or little trivia like that. Also, it's the only place people wear their big "on board days" medallion!

When we did the Voyage trip, we just enjoyed wandering around the little towns. No need for any excursions.

Bare tables may be at many American restaurants, but on a cruise I'm paying for "dress up" and I want to feel dressed up. HAL is part of the Carnival Corporation, but let the kids have the Carnival ships and give me the grown up...HAL ship.

Thank you for your comments about HAL. I can see that everyone has preferences. I'll stick with HAL. They are still my favorite cruise line.

To all my fellow CC friends in the path of this monster, please stay safe.
I'm in SE Pennsylvania and our forecast is 12-16 plus inches. I just hope it all melts in the next 2 weeks.

Any/all cruise lines can do this whenever they want. As you have learned, HAL has been informing the passengers.
We once returned from a day on Grand Cayman (Princess ship) to find the gps map on the TV showing a visit to Jamaica when our purchase itinerary had been to Cozumel.
Turned out that the captain had spent all day on the phone to HQ to make the change. There was a serious storm headed to Coz...but our revised visit to Jamaica was wonderful! 99% were really happy we did that.
Thank goodness HAL takes care of their passengers. My question is, what about people who book private excursions? It's not like you can give them a phone call and change days.

I believe the policy on the Zaandam was no flash or video for the shows. I believe no photography at all was permitted during presentations by the naturalists. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I agree

Carry on or checked luggage?
I had one in my carry on bag, and TSA took it! Couldn't go on an airplane, but I had no problem in my checked luggage. Avoid the corkage fee by pouring the wine in your cabin and carry the glass to dinner.

We had the opportunity through HAL to go to the Hermitage on a private tour. The museum was closed to the public and open only to us that night. A MUST see!

That's fine with me. The best part about cruising is, not cooking, not making my bed, and walking to the showroom! Dress is minor. I also like seeing different sights without packing and unpacking. Happy cruising!

You can eat at the Lido without dressing up. Yes, retirement is great!

Holland america medical care
in Holland America Line

We also had 2 HAL doctors from South Africa. They were both highly qualified and took great care of Hubbie. We had to leave the ship 10 days into a 28 day cruise and HAL took care of all the arrangements. We were quite pleased they had all that medical equipment on board.
