  1. Just got back from 12 day Australia/New Zealand on Noordam. Last cruise, I did a few of the 'fit as much as you can in a bag' for $20 option. This cruise, I had planned on doing that, supplementing my normal 'wash it in the sink' option I general use on vacations, land and sea. However, spur of the moment, the day after we boarded, I chose Unlimited Llaundry option for $84. Best. Decision. Ever. We used it pretty much daily. It was returned either that evening or the next morning, folded as requested. Nothing was lost or ruined. I had 3 minor issues: 1) the elastic waist band on my white undies came back a bit yellow, although the white cotton was not similarly affected. 2) I had one polo shirt that had a very small stain on the chest, which I noted on the form, but the stain remained and 3) pretty sure my jeans came back a tiny bit tight. This was either from them being machine dried or the cruise buffet caught up with. Or both, lol! The jeans easily loosened upon wearing. None of these blips will deter me from choosing unlimited option on every cruise now. I anticipate being able to bring less clothes this way, as well. A win/win all around, imo!

  2. Thank you all for responding! For future reference, if cruising from Sydney to Tasmania and beyond, you do your TRS at Hobart, not Sydney. I will pop back in after we leave Hobart to update the process. Thanks again! Ps, even with heavy clouds, sail away from Sydney was spectacular!

  3. I'm currently in Sydney, pre-cruise, and I broke my camera yesterday. I was able to purchase a new one, at which time the sales guy mentioned TRS. I've been able to do some quick research on TRS and cruise ships. I understand the requirement is last Australian port. Our cruise ship, MS Noordam, leaves Sydney from White Bay terminal this afternoon. Our last Australian port of call is Hobart, which is listed on the TRS site as a port with a TRS desk. That's about all I can find on Hobart.

Does anyone here have experience using the Hobart TRS desk? If so, what Can I expect? I've downloaded the TRS app, hoping to expedite the process.

Additionally, my copy of my passport is on my phone. Will this suffice, or do I need a paper copy?

Appreciate any last minute help or tips or info you might have. Not the start to our cruise I envisioned!

  4. We sail on the Noordam out of the White Bay Terminal, on Tuesday, March 14. There are 3 of us, each will have a large, rolling bag and a backpack type carry on. One is in her early 80s, but is a seasoned cruiser and reasonably fit. If I have read other threads correctly, I understand public transportation is limited to non-existent to White Bay. If we taxi from Marriott at Circular Quay around noon on a Tuesday, approximately how long would that take and how much should we expect to pay? Is there substantial traffic midday that could create issues?

I've also read there is a Captain Cook ferry that transports to White Bay, $9AU for one trip, but no longer leaves from Circular Quay. If we chose to utilize the ferry, what would that entail (walking, train, etc), getting to the ferry from the Marriott and getting from the ferry to the cruise terminal?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts/suggestions/advice anyone can offer!

  5. Just finished the Eurodam Baltic cruise, with As You Wish dining and loved it...when we used it! Of the ten nights, we ate 3 in MDR, 1 in Pinnacle, 1 in Tamarind, the remainder in Lido. We didn't make reservations for MDR until embarkation day, so the available time slots were limited, and no reservations for tables for two were available. We honestly prefer to dine on our own, but didn't want to wait until after 8 for a reservation. The maitre'd told us they hold some two tops back and if we didn't mind dining early, we could walk up and probably get a table for two. We went ahead and booked as a part of a group table, with reservation times ranging from 6 to 7 pm, then just walked up around 5:45, and got a table for two. The first night, we had a 4 top to ourselves. It was adjacent to a serving station and walkway, but had no issues with the location. The other two nights, we were seated in two tops, along the inner side. No problems with those tables, either. Eating early worked out great, too, as after, we would head to the hydro pool and thermal suite, which were virtually empty, because almost everyone else was at the shows or dining :)

In the end, though, we ended up chosing to eat most of the time at Lido, because of the less formal atmosphere and range of choices.

  6. Hi, all! We arrived in Copenhagen this morning and I wanted to offer a few observations specific to the HOHO buses. I know other posters have mentioned this in prior threads, but it bears repeating: do not count on this specific tour to be timely. We chose the Mermaid Tour RedLine, knowing there might be time issues, but our ship does not leave until tomorrow. We had flexibility to absorb any delays. It did get old, however, as we had to wait at least 20 to 25 minutes AFTER the stated time before the right bus would arrive. If we had bought the the ticket for the longer Carlsberg Tour Yellow Line ticket, we could boarded a Red OR Yellow bus. That would have, at least, given us more options, although the Yellow buses didn't seem to be all that often either. And while I can't vouch for their timeliness, the Step On Step Off buses seemed more frequent. We watched 2 stop at Rosenborg while we waited for ours; same at the Ameliaborg stop.

Beyond the time issue, we had one driver tell us he couldn't sell us tickets paying with credit card, but did let us go ahead and ride to our stop. When we were finally able to board a later bus and explained why we had no tickets, the driver did not have flattering things to say about our first driver and easily sold us tickets with credit card pay. Additionally, the Tivoli stop, where the buses begin and end each rotation, was a chaotic mess.

Overall, HOHO just didn't seem to have their act together. Maybe they improve as the high season arrives? I just wanted to offer a current, on-the-spot take on the timely issue. I would hate for someone to miss their ship!

  7. In agreement with NYAS: while I am very sorry to hear of the fire, I'm thrilled they were able to save most of the collection. Obviously any loss would be irreplaceable. It's terribly disappointing, personally, since this was also on our must-see list. I hope they are able to rebuild or restore with minimum delays.

Thanks for the head's up; off to decide what to visit instead. I'm leaning toward Thorvaldsens Museum...

  8. You do read it correctly, but remember that the road is a one way street so the bus back to mariott is located one block further to the west.

Its no big deal really but its nice to know.

1A goes all the time (every 5-10 minute) so if you don't get the first one you don't have to worry.

You don't need to use the Christiansborg bus stop so that's info you don't need to react on.

    Perfect, thank you!

  9. Danish Viking,

As stated by others, your contribution to this thread has been invaluable and has provided a wealth of information. Huge gratitude for this service!

We are arriving early Monday, May 20, departing Copenhagen on the Eurodam, afternoon of May 21. One of the places we are interested in visiting is Frihedsmuseet, but it is closed on Mondays. The museum site states it opens at 10 a.m on Tuesday, so we have decided to delay our arrival to the Eurodam until after the noon hour, in order to visit the museum at opening. We are staying at the Marriott. Since we will most likely taxi to Freeport from the hotel, I'd like to save a bit of money. Looking into the bus option, I used the route planner. If I am reading it correctly, it looks like we could walk to Stormgade/Glyptoteket stop, catch 1A toward Hellerup st, get off at Esplanaden/Grønningen, and walk to the museum. The return trip is the same, catching 1A toward Hvidovre Hospital/sløjfen, off at Esplanaden, then walk to Marriott. However, there is some kind warning on the return trip. I used an online translator, and it seems to be saying the stop at Christiansborg is closed due to Metro construction. First, am I reading the bus schedule correctly as to getting to and from the museum? Second, is the translation accurate regarding Christiansborg and nothing we need to be concerned about?

Thanks for any advice you can offer :)
