  1. After I graduated from HS, I spent a month in Mexico City with the family of our previous exchange student. One day, her sister’s ‘club’ (something like Girl Scouts) we’re visiting a plantation way out in the countryside. Someone mentioned that there was another American there, and took me to be introduced. He was about 12 and busy playing tennis and could not have cared less to meet a 17 y/o girl. I told him I was from near Niagara Falls (everyone know NF!), and he said ‘me too’. I said ‘well, actually outside of Buffalo. He responded ‘me, too’. I said Orchard Park, he said ‘me too’. Turns out he lived about 3 streets away from me! He went back to playing tennis, seemingly unfazed. I was stunned!! I have told the story many times. I wonder if he ever thought ‘what a small world it is’?

  2. As long as I’m on a ship, I don’t care what cabin! Our next cruise is on Oasis on a deck 3 OV. It’ll be the first daylight cabin we’ve had in about 10 cruises!

With the invention of elevators, I can be wherever in just a few minutes. If you’re close to somethings, you’re farther from others.

I like 6 best, because getting back to our cabin after a long evening, is just steps away.

  3. What are people's experiences of the restaurant they are allocated? Were you happy?

We were told it would be assigned, but when we were wandering around after embarking we saw the Specialty Dining Table and asked when we would find out which restaurant we would be assigned. They asked which we wanted, they made a phone call, and voila! We dined in 150 Central Park, and really enjoyed it.

We’ll be looking to try a different restaurant on our next cruise, but we’d be happy to eat at 150 Central Park again!

Hopefully too many people don’t figure this out!

  4. We are going on a cruise that was kind of last minute booking, so there was not a log of cabins to pick from. Doing a B2B on the Liberty. First leg we are on the 8th deck inside. Second leg deck 2 inside. Usually we have a balcony, but we have had inside rooms in the past. Just curious as how the bottom of the ship will be. We make the most of every cruise, and I believe we will have a wonderful time. This is our second B2B on Liberty, had a hump balcony and loved it. Anyway would love to hear from those who have sailed on the bottom!

We ALWAYS sail inside and as low as possible, towards the center. We’re only in our cabin to sleep and shower. Once we’re out of the room, the ship is exactly the same one that the passengers that pay way more. Note that I’m afraid of heights and get seasick, LOL! Jealous, as we’ve never done a B2B!

  5. I've recently booked my first cruise on a large ship (Oasis). What differences can I expect between this size and the smaller ships?

I had someone in a Facebook group tell me to make sure I book my dining. Does dining work differently on Oasis? I just want a set dining time in the MDR. I'm not interested in any of the specialty dining options.

What are some "can't miss" items on Oasis?

And I know that shows can fill fast and it's best to reserve seats ahead of time on Cruise Planner, but can anyone tell me when shows become available on Cruise Planner?

What about drink packages? When do those open up for sale? My upcoming cruises are both over a year away, but I am anxious to get things booked because I don't want to miss out on anything!

Big ship is bigger! Seriously, it’s basically the same, but with more options, larger venues and more people.

We’re sailing in just over 100 days, and the the Entertainment just opened up yesterday. They say 90 days out, but it’s usually closer to 100.

You can choose Dining way ahead, usually when you book. Log in to RCCL and you can see what you’ve been reserved for. We got stuck with MyTime last cruise and we really didn’t like it, as we missed the camaraderie of ‘Table mates’.

Not sure how soon drink packages open up, but well before Entertainment. They want to be sure to give you plenty of time to spend your money!

Our can’t miss would be Park Cafe (deck 8) and Central Park in general! You could miss it if you didn’t know it was there, and it is amazing day & night. The cafe is not usually busy, and they make chop salads and hand carved meat sandwiches to order. Way better than the pizza at Sorrento’s on deck 5.

    Happy sailing!

  6. We were told that they would no longer deliver the case, so we just put it on top of the rollaboard and wheeled it to our cabin. We didn't want to take a chance of it not being in our cabin, and having to buy water all week.

  7. One option would be to book a Back to Back (B2B), so you would take 2 cruises on the same ship. Not sure which ones would work for you. You might get tired of a smaller ship for that length of time. Most Americans that can cruise for that length of time are retired. We don't get the same amount of vacation time as Europeans do.[emoji30]

  8. The earlier the better. We did breakfast in the dining room once, and then had to carry two weeks worth of luggage down 3 flights of stairs! We just got off the Oasis of the Seas a few weeks ago, so we skipped breakfast and had no issues with having elevators available around 7. We stopped and grabbed a light breakfast on the road.

  9. Celebrity is the only cruise line that allows just one person to get a drink package in a stateroom. Others require everyone in the cabin to get the package.

Royal also allows only one person to buy drink package. That worked great for us on our recent Explorer cruise. It's not that I "won't" drink. I just want to save my calories for DESSERT!

  10. I'm interested in the loyalty programs -- hey, any little perk is nice -- but they take a back seat to other considerations.

Clearly the loyalty programs benefit the companies more than the cruisers. Why? Well, they get people thinking of themselves as a "this company cruiser", or they get people invested in working their way up to ____ level . . . and that keeps them giving their dollars to one company.

These are my personal criteria for choosing a cruise -- no particular order:

    - Can I drive to the port?

    - Is the ticket price good?

    - Do I like the island stops?

    - Is it a relatively new ship with amenities that appeal to me?

We have sailed a couple lines, but we have had the best experiences on Royal Caribbean; thus, we check them first -- but that doesn't mean they'll "win" our dollars every time.

We've recently decided to focus our sailings on Royal speciffically because they sail out of Port Canaveral AND because we like their level of service. But now that they're talking about moving Dynamic Dining onto more ships, our decision might be reconsidered... And we're expressing this at every level at RCCL. We love the MDR option, and avoid any ships that forgo offering it. Like the old saying goes "Try it, you'll like it". We tried it (Freestyle), we didn't like it".

  11. OP..I had to laugh at your "nice and neat" phrase. I started looking for tag holders and found you could get narrow and regular (or whatever they call it).

Since most of our cruises are with RCI and Celebrity I needed one size, BUT we've cruises Carnival a couple of times and really didn't want to buy both sizes. Found some generic sizes on ebay but being a little ocd and like you wanted everything to be "just right".:p

Finally, after several months, decided to "get a grip" and ordered the generic ones a couple of days ago. We'll see......

Oh, my! My OCD is showing!!

  12. You are aware that the DCL tags look like the airline luggage tags--with sticky on one end and they wrap around the handle ? Guess I'm not seeing how you would fit these in a holder. Sorry' date=' I'm not at home where I could measure them for you.[/quote']

Thanks for your help. Yeah, no, I'm not aware of Disney's tagging system.

My recent cruises have been On RCCL, and the tags that you print on your home computer ripped off, so our luggage went into a holding pen until they could figure out who it belonged to.

So, for my upcoming cruise, I decided to use a sturdier holder, but the printed ones don't fit a standard luggage tag. I whipped up some for myself, and wanted to make some for a friend who is doing Disney later this year.

It looks like Disney's are made out of Tyvek like the airline ones, and not likely to rip off.

On RCCL, only the higher level cabins have tags sent to the. The rest of us have to deal with the ones we print out ourselves. Sigh!
