We are considering the Nieuw Statendam in July to Europe. Just wondering if the band in the  BB King Club plays mostly Blues music, or do they play a mix genre of music. We enjoy doing some ballroom dancing, is there a chance we might be able to do a Waltz, Cha Cha or Rumba? The Rock and Roll club, do they play mostly high energy hard rock music?  Is there a "silent disco" event on the ship, or any pre-recorded ballroom music in a lounge at some point. Does anyone have some of the daily agendas they can post here.  Any info on the ship is welcome. Thank you in advance.

We just got off the N.S. yesterday and I saw "Ballroom Dancing Hour"  many times on the daily schedule.  We didn't participate but I assume it was it was to recorded music.

  2. I have been looking forward to trying Nacho (been to Mr. Santos twice). Our time in port is 11 am- 11 pm. I'm guessing the earliest we will make it to Nachi is noon?

Does this pose a problem for beach chairs, etc? Our date is Friday, March 6th.

Do the Tabyana Beach excursion thru your ship.  Transports you to that beach area, snorkeling there looks amazing.  Primo beach on the island.  That is what my son and I are doing this next Sept... his first time to Roatan, my zillionth time.  Gotta show him why we love Roatan so much.

French Harbor is on the windward side of the island so depending on whether you may be fighting waves to snorkel. I don't know of any nice beaches other than Little French Key in that area and I would not under any circumstance offer my hard earned dollars to them.

I have snorkeled a fair amount of the waters around the island. I truly believe the best snorkeling is done within the Roatan Marine Park which runs one end of Sandy Bay to the other end of West Bay.  West Bay may be a bit over loved but it is still good snorkeling. Or if you wish to be in the water with mostly just your party, hire a boat to take you to the lesser known spots in Sandy Bay.

This thread has heaps of info about West Bay.

Wow!  Thanks for your thoughts and that link.  Both are very helpful!

Which ship are you on? Which port?

West End and West Bay (where most cruisers shore snorkel and where the "scenic" beach everyone raves about is located, are close to Coxen Hole.  French Harbor is closer to Mahogany Bay.  There are some nice beaches in developments up that way but I believe the better snorkeling is off shore.

Several beach clubs in West Bay offer day passes with transportation if you arrange in advance. Cheaper than ship excursions.  Look up Beachers, Bananarama, Paradise Beach, Infinity Bay.

We'll be on the Carnival Legend in Mahogany Bay.  I will look up your suggestions.  Thank you!  It's only my husband and myself that want to snorkel and we have an off shore snorkel excursion booked for Belize.  One friend is coming all the way from Seattle so I want her to see the best possible clear waters.

  6. I have a question for anyone who has been to Roatan before.  We want a beach day with snorkeling possible from the beach itself. I think we're going to hire a driver for the day to take us a few other places as well.  That company mentioned taking us to a beach in French Harbor.

All the grand reviews I see for beach/snorkel say West End.  Has anybody been to French Harbor beaches?  Are they as nice?

I really want our friends to have the best beach possible.  We go to beaches all the time.  They do not. Thanks for any input you can give.

  7. We are going to Roatan on our Halloween Cruise. We have people in our group of 6 that just want a beach day and 2 of us want to snorkel.

  8. Thank you all for your posts, yes we are US citizens and hold a us passport. Thank you for the information on the city pass, will definately look into it

    :)

When is your sailing? We're from Deland going on the Eurodam on September 15th.

  9. We are confirmed for this on Nov 23 (?) when we're in port on the Caribbean Princess. Looked too fun to pass up since we both ride our own at home. Will post our review and maybe video wen we get home!

Glad I found out about it here! :D

Looking forward to your review. We'll be sailing on the Caribbean Princess in late February and also booked a trikes tour. Wishing you a bon voyage!

  11. I was wondering if anybody can help me with the schedule for this live music. I understand they don't play every night. We are sailing Sat-Sat and I want to make reservations in Pinnacle Grill but I don't want to make them too late and miss the band. HAL says the band decides and it can change each cruise. Can somebody give me an idea what time they start...is it 7:30 or 9? or is that different each night as well???

  12. I've never seen valet parking AT the terminals, but there is Park N Go at the entrance to the port. They will valet your car and shuttle you to and from your terminal with your luggage. They charge much less than the port does, and the biggest savings are if you prebook.

    Thanks...I will look them up.

  13. We are coming to Ft L 2 nts pre cruise to attend a Panthers hockey game. Due to weeknight traffic to the game, we're staying by the arena. That eliminates the option of shuttle to the ship. Any advice for parking at the port? Would love to learn they have valet like Tampa...

  14. Thank you so much for all of your help! I just booked Princess - they have amazing deals right now. I was able to book the cruise, drink packages, and all of our shore excursions for less, total, than just the cruise fare for Celebrity and much less than Disney.

Thank you for suggesting Princess!! Merry Christmas!

I think you will have a great time on Princess. We took a multi family Alaska cruise with ages of 6 - 70. Everyone had a great time.

  15. We like the r/t sailings from Vancouver. The scenery is far better the first and last days vs. those from Seattle. It used to be it was MUCH less expensive to fly in/out of Seattle than Vancouver but that has changed. YVR is only a bit more than SEA for us, but the scenery (and that is why we cruise Alaska in the first place ;)) is worth it. The only reason I'd even consider suggesting the Seattle departures to anyone from the US is if they have a police record such as a DUI. That would be a problem for them to enter Canada in order to board a cruise.

We've been on more than 10 Alaska cruises and never failed to see glaciers calving at Hubbard Glacier or in Glacier Bay. Either one of those is a 'must see'. Tracy Arm (which Disney does) is a lovely Fjord experience. It makes a nice supplement to either Hubbard or Glacier Bay - but it isn't a substitute.

Thanks so much for your reply. Coming from Florida, we certainly want to enjoy every moment of the beautiful landscape.
