One tip I just learned - when you check for remaining rooms available on your cruise by searching with the default 1room/2ppl, it only shows double occupancy staterooms.  Instead try searching with 3 or 4ppl per room selected.

I tried this for our upcoming sailing: Searching with 2ppl selected only showed 1 Interior available - no OV or higher categories.  But when I changed my search to 3-4ppl, suddenly the RCCL website showed a lot of OV and Balcony inventory available for booking.

So besides last minute cancellations, this is another reason why staterooms become available for RoyalUP: 2ppl are allowed to upgrade into a room normally reserved for 3-4 guests.

Check it out and let me know!

    Nice tip!

Gave this a go for my sailing and there’s no balcony cabins left at all for 1/2/3/4 people! Guess it’ll be a busy cruise!

  2. Not much recent activity on this thread but wanted to share my first ever successful experience of RoyalUp.

Booked an interior mid ship deck 6 stateroom on Harmony sailing July 2023. RoyalUp opened just over a month before sailing and I put bids on most categories from Oceanview Balcony down to Spacious Interior.

A little over 3 weeks prior to sailing, I received the success message and reissued booking confirmation. My “weak” bid of £255pp for an oceanview balcony was accepted! Very happy with the cabin location too - mid ship, mid deck.

I have no idea how this happened - the sailing is virtually full with only one OV balcony for sale at more than 3 times the price I paid.

Pleasantly surprised to say the least!

I'm really struggling with Barcelona, looked at topic #8 and found myself reliving memories when we visited Barcelona. Can't wait to travel there again!

Did you find Barcelona yet? Celebrity posted a clue on their Twitter. I managed to find it pretty quickly after reading that!

”This X is camouflaged in Barcelona’s gateway for travellers who arrive by sea.”

I have one left - Florence - and it’s driving me nuts! Literally spent hours scouring every cm of this image but I must be blind! The Celebrity’s Twitter clue has sent me to Piazzale Michelangelo area but I still can’t find it! 🥵

  4. Thanks for your fantastic review so far. Following as I’m on Brilliance in August doing the same itinerary as you!

Did you manage to find out how busy the ship is for your sailing?

Regarding your question on tips, I think it’s good practice on cruises to give additional tips to those on board who have helped make your holiday special - usually your cabin attendant, concierge, wait staff, favourite barman/woman etc.

As a Brit, the practice of giving tips on top of tips is foreign to me but given how hard these guys work and the fact they were unable to work throughout covid, I’ll be more than happy to pass on a few extra dollars.

  5. I’ve just received an invitation for a complementary balcony stateroom on Anthem of the Seas for a 2 night test cruise on the 4th-6th July from Southampton.

It looks absolutely amazing but you need to have been fully vaccinated at least 14 days before the sail date, which I won’t be 😪

It’s for UK cruisers only - anyone else get the invite? I wonder how they selected who to invite.

  6. Just spent the last hour reading through this thread and it’s been fascinating reading about everyone’s experiences!

My partner and I have been on a few cruises across a handful of lines - RCL, CCL, Princess, MSC - and have always had positive experiences. We like to cruise as it gives us some quality together time. We both have hectic jobs and don’t always have time for that back home (although COVID has changed that the last few months, but that’s a different story!)..... so we tend to keep ourselves on holiday but whilst we don’t actively seek out other gay passengers, we don’t ignore people either. If someone takes the time to chat/smile/wave to me then I’ll more than happily return the gesture. We’ve met some wonderful people on cruises from all walks of life, but if we don’t invite them to dinner with us, it’s absolutely not because we’re being unfriendly! I’d feel bad if I knew someone thought that.

Looks like Carnival is back in the debt markets again this morning. They are looking to raise another 1 billion. So much for the "we have enough cash to survive without any income for 18 months line", or they are expecting a much longer shutdown. Interest rates for this debt offering are 10.5 to 11%. It is possible they have some debt notes coming due and need to roll over.

That looks like bad news to me. Why increase debt at these interest rates if they have so much cash?

This continual increase in debt will make CCL unprofitable for years. Yes, it will keep them in business for a few more months but it has to be paid back eventually.... and there's no government lifeline to bail them out if they can't pay. As the shutdown continues to be extended/reinstated with no obvious end date for the cruise lines to start sailing again, they will require even more debt to stay alive at increasingly unfavourable rates. Until there's a clear plan for recovery, it's just too big a risk to invest in long term at the current inflated stock price.

  8. A friend is sailing on MSC Fantasia next month and asked me if I knew what the sauna set up was on this ship - I don't & cannot find any useful info online, can anyone help?

Same question... but for all of the Fantasia class ships (Fantasia, Splendida, Divina, Preziosa).

Only info I can find online is that the sauna/steam are part of the spa rather than the gym and are therefore incur a fee to use. According to my cruise booking options, I can pay for a week long thermal area pass for £39 (~$50) But unsure whether they are co-ed or not. There’s nothing on the website or deck plans which indicate what the set up is like.

  9. We've had an offer too on the 5th Aug Med sailing.

Two weeks ago - 100% refund (as onboard credit) and 50% off a 7 day future cruise

One week ago - 100% refund (as onboard credit) and a free 7 day future cruise

Yesterday - 100% refund (as onboard credit) and 2 x 7 day future cruises or 1 x 14 day future cruise

Wonder what they'll offer next week! :D
