  1. Hi Desdi....

We are looking forward to our visit to Stockholm on the Eurodam Saturday 20 June from 10am, leaving Sun 21st at 4pm. I have a heap of things I've printed from your excellent info and links and have learnt a lot - thanks - but I have a few questions -

    1. We'll be there on the Saturday and Sunday of the Midsummer holiday weekend. I guess some shops and other things will be closed, but will this effect the transport also? Any special holiday things on that we shouldn't miss?

    2. On the latest map links it appears that 'buses 53 and 93 are the only ones passing S167 at Londonviadukten to get to Slussen - is this correct?

When I do a street view of the area, I see long red buses with 400+ numbers, do they still go that way and are they included in the Travelcard? We hope to get a 24hr card at the cruise terminal and use public transport - more fun!

    3. What number should I look for at S167 to get to the Centralen - Sergels Torv area please? I found some Walking Tours that start from there. Looks like maybe 53 goes that way?

    4. To get to the Vasa from Slussen, is it still a choice between the 76 bus to Djurgadsbron - or the ferry to Allmanna Grand?

I printed the two Slussen Bus Terminal plans that you linked to - they both appear to be in the Tunnelbana area, before the bridge, but I cannot find them on street view at all - guess if we get off the bus there, all will become clear! I hope!

Thanks again for your help...........Ann & Bill :confused:

Two ex-Welsh, now Aussie very active senior citizens

  2. Hi DanishViking - just for a change, a contact NOT from North America. We are a couple of Welsh-born, but long time Australian, senior citizens. Still very active and love to travel.

We have followed your info on various threads and are very impressed with your dedication to promoting your home area - it is very much appreciated and excellent info for our visit to Copenhagen next month.

We will be flying from Sydney to Copenhagen, arriving around

1pm Friday 12 June. Our plan is to -

take the train from Terminal 3 to Kobenhavn H - Central. Short walk to Scandic Weber hotel (have looked at that on Google street view) Check-in hotel and then do either 3pm or 4pm Walking Tour, followed by Tivoli Gardens for meal and Friday evening concert.

Sat 13 June we'll probably take a morning walk around the local area before transport to Oceankaj for Eurodam cruise - we think we might do this by taxi as we're worried about trying the train/'bus option with suitcases before we know the area.

We'll be back in Copenhagen for a shore day on Wednesday 24 June, and hope to try out the shuttle and train or 'bus into the central area from the ship then - and do a Canal Tour and just "follow our noses". Hopefully then we'll be able to doing the same when we disembark the following day. Our flight is 6.35pm Thursday 25th so plan to leave our luggage at Central Rail until about 3pm and then take the train back to the airport.

The theory of this works for us, but we'd appreciate your help with identifying how we find our way about the trains and 'buses and correct platforms, etc. I think probably there'll be people to ask for help at the airport, but how about at Central Station - are there any signs in English to help us find the correct train for Nordhavn station and later for the Airport?

And I'm still confused about 'bus 26  I thought I'd got it, and then I discovered 25 and 27 were also in the picture!! Is there a route map for no. 26 anywhere, as it appears to be the 'bus to take for the central area when you've walked too far and need to rest your legs!

Sorry this is so long - any information gratefully received..........Ann & Bill

  3. Many thanks to all for your help and info. We have found info here in Oz from Viking, APT, Scenic and Cruiseco. Now a matter of comparing itineraries and prices.

On our recent South America/Antarctica trip we did the Iguazu Falls jetboat trip, and my 70 year old DH with a heart problem and two knee replacements managed the climb back up to the top much better than many people 20 to 30 years younger, so I reckon we'll be ok.

So thanks again, I've spent a lot of time following various threads and it sounds like a goer:)

  4. Hi - couple of Senior Citizens, recently back from Antarctica, now interested in River Cruising in Myanmar. Not too physical, passed the age for adventurous trekking, like a little more luxury!

From looking at the weather there, over Christmas 2016 period looks ideal. Possibly Mandalay - Prome(Pyay) - Yangon, with maybe adding Inle Lake.

Any advice re must see/must do places and experiences of cruises available to book from Australia would be appreciated.

    :)

  5. Thanks, we were a bit dubious about the agent info. They said transfer would be around US$125 due to port requirements re drivers and we thought that seemed pretty steep. We'll leave it and arrange with the hotel when we get there.

    Thanks again - happy cruising.

  6. We are in process of organising our cruise on Zaandam for next Christmas - staying overnight in Valparaiso before embarkation.

Local agent advises that vehicle transfer from Valparaiso hotel to ship is expensive as drivers need to be specially cleared to enter the port. Anyone have info or suggestions about embarkation there please?

Don't fancy wrangling suitcases too far if it's very hot.

  7. Have just found this review - and LOVING it.

We are booked on Zaandan for next Christmas/New Year and 50th wedding anniversary, and so far identical cruise. But from Ushuaia we go Antarctica - Stanley - etc - and have added trip BA-Iguazu-Rio to finish up. Cannot wait! Have learned so much from this thread - a big thank you from sunny Sydney.

Couple of questions - what happened about passports taken at Valparaiso, was waiting for details with bated breath! (I always dread letting them out of my sight) And for these ports first-timers, any must-see tours, or get off and look around?

  8. I read it in the current HAL Cruise Contract - smoking allowed on -

"Stateroom verandahs and other designated, outside decks. Designated smoking areas for ALL ships are stateroom verandahs, the Casino (for active players only), the Seaview Bar and the Sports Deck. Guests on the (7 ships named, including Oosterdam) may also smoke on the Observation Deck"The named two decks, Seaview Bar and Casino I'm happy to avoid - but the verandah I was hoping to enjoy.

  9. Hi - have cruised Princess, RCI and Celebrity. I assumed all lines had limited designated smoking areas. Have booked Oosterdam, balcony room, and now discover HAL allows smoking on balconies and many public areas.

The balcony bit in particular disturbs me - have all smokers gravitated to HAL? Should I be worried?
