  1. I agree that the 6/5 blackjack is poor odds. I believe that the $25 tables and higher paid 3/2.
We played at tables that were 8 deck shoes. The last time we were in a casino was a cruise in June. Obviously we find blackjack entertainment and do not expect huge winnings. This was an 11 day trip.
My husband has a masters in math and often quotes similar statistics. However, we enjoy the game, the dealers and other players. Have some fun! If you don’t want to play, find something else to do on the ship.

  2. We’ve been on 20 Celebrity cruises and did our first Royal Caribbean this past June. It was on the Adventure of the Seas, from Bayonne (Port Liberty) to Maine and Canada for six nights.

I can’t tell you about getting to the port  from NYC. We drove two hours from our home on Long Island. Parking and embarkation were so very easy.

They did have anytime dining but we ( three couples ) chose the late set time at 8:15.

We were very impressed with RCCL! Although I would rate the food on Celebrity a little better, I found the staff friendly and helpful. The shows in the theater were comparable but the ice skating show was amazing, not to be missed.

We also think the RCCL prices were a bit more reasonable than Celebrity. While on board, we booked the Oasis for us and our son’s family. Again leaving from Bayonne in June.

Have a great trip- enjoy the city and the cruise!

First of all, if you are offering 'price protection' it should be cost per day.  They are protecting the price of a 9, 10, or 11 day cruise when we originally booked and paid for a 14 day cruise.  Not a fair comparison for cruises as much as 5 days difference in length.  Second, their protection should be applying to cruises that honestly have 'similar itineraries'.  None of the cruises has a similar itinerary - in particular none of the offered cruises go to the ABC islands which is one of the main reasons people booked this cruise.  None of the cruises are offered during the months of Jan and Feb, when this cruise was scheduled, which DOES have similar itineraries (including the ABC's).  But those cruises are been selling well so the prices are higher so they don't want to include them in their offering.  I wouldn't be so upset if this had happened months ago.  But now the cruises in January and early February are already fairly booked up and therefore quite expensive.  Finally, in typical Celebrity fashion, they are being inconsistent in their re-bookings - at least according to what I've read here on Cruise Critic.  Some people are getting price protection on cruises not listed.  We were told no.  Some people are getting extra OBC.  We were told no.  At the very least, be consistent in what you are offering.

The cruises that were price protected were not acceptable to us. We wanted to cruise in late January or February and none were offered.

We decided on the Reflection 1/20 and technically paid the current price. However, we could still have $250 OBC for booking on board and $250 OBC for the cancellation. Add in the Future Cruise certificate of $3800 and it seemed like fair compensation.

We had not booked a flight yet and our hotel is refundable.

  4. We were booked on the Silhouette cruise that was cancelled.  Thanks to the Cruise Critic members that posted the news, we were able to phone Celebrity yesterday afternoon. The first rep we spoke with kept saying that it was not cancelled, eventually realized that we were correct.

After 90 minutes, we rebooked ! My head is still spinning, but here it is:

                 Reflection 1/20/20.  11 nights  veranda

                                                                        (No concierge available)

Kept our $250 for booking onboard

Received $250 for the cancelled cruise

In approximately 3-4 weeks, will receive a Future Cruise certificate of $3800+

that can be used towards this sailing.

Initially we were disappointed but felt that the FC certificate took the sting out of the news. Life goes on.  Watch this be the best cruise ever!

  5. I love the packing cubes from Dollar Tree. They are lightweight but sturdy enough to use in the cabinets above the bed.

For our last cruise, I folded t shirts and shorts into the cubes and placed inside my luggage. It made unpacking very easy!

I also bring an inexpensive closet hanging shoe rack and a folding mesh hamper.

  6. We’ve only done one B2B on the Reflection. It was seven days each with different ports. Since it was January, I thought we lost two warm days by returning and leaving Florida again.

Not a big deal, but menu items and some shows were repeated.

Please, Celebrity, bring back the Eclipse 14 day cruises!

  7. We did the opposite last February. We were flying home on Southwest from Fort Lauderdale airport after disembarking the Eclipse in Miami. Luggage Valet was fantastic!

If you stop at Guest Relations a few days before the end of the cruise, they may be able to let you know what flights are eligible.

  8. Even though at home we eat dinner rather early, we always request the 8:30 seating onboard. We’ve found that a table for six is perfect. On our last cruise, ( Eclipse 14 day Caribbean Jan 20 ) we sat with couples from England and Wales. We enjoyed ourselves so much that the six of us booked a cruise together next January! We have linked our reservations and requested another table together. By the way, we usually go to a specialty restaurant a few times during a long cruise. Dinner was so great together that none of us missed a night.
