  1. Thank you. Looking at the deck plans and a YouTube video, all of the cabins’ balconies face aft and looks like there’s no privacy at all.  Both the accessible room’s balcony and the ones in eye sight.  Has this been a problem for anyone?  Has anyone here stayed in either of the two cabins on deck 16?  Looks like the view includes a restaurant on one end and a bar on the other.

I’m also wondering if the slides present an issue.

  2. Uh-oh. All these years touting the IHG credit card.....Looks like the free annual night will no longer be available for the French Polynesia properties if booked after May 1.

Still worth it for other areas and you still get decent points for signing up. This is not good news!

  3. Thanks all for the recommendation of Les Tipaners (spelling ?)... I did try to book it and there is no availability.

I ended up booking Linareva. Also small place, it did have nice reviews on Trip Advisor. Want something simple, clean and budget minded as the real trip starts on the cruise! Adding on the days pre-cruise was a last minute plan, clearly. We don't so much mind no A/C but I hate to be hot at night (lords knows I am hot enough already;)) but many places of reviews I read without AC did not have screens on the window.. An invitation to bugs... I ain't doing that... :p

Not afraid of them but not interested in sending them an invitation.LOL

Please do offer advise regarding car rental or not. I don't believe the place we are staying is very close to any type of restaurant and there is not one on site.

    Appreciate all of the help.

All of the better restaurants will pick you up for dinner. Renting a car is good to see the island.

  4. Hi, All!

I'm cruising to the Caribbean next month & to Norway in June. I'll be taking my new rollator/walker for the first time.

My question: how best to transport the rollator on the airplane?

    * Should I check it as I do my larger suitcase?

    * Or should I wait & check it at the gate, as is done with a child's stroller?

It folds somewhat & I'll secure it with zip ties (or such). Should I also give it a wrap of bubble wrap?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

We’ve gate checked my wife’s walker many times.

Only Spirit airlines once banged it up good. We didn’t secure anything. I would think bubble wrap would make it difficult for the flight attendant to put it on the plane and take it off. I would think checking it will destroy it!

  5. Thanks Twin. Once you've done the vanilla farm and pearl farm tour on any island they become annoying and a waste of valuable time. I guess I'll just go with Windstar's 3 hour coral garden drift snorkel excursion. Maybe we'll rent a kayak from one of the hotels in the afternoon which sounds pretty easy to arrange, and make our own way for that half of the day.

That’s a good amount of time for sure. Wonderful surroundings. My first time there we saw Tom Cruise lounging on his balcony at Le Taha’a!

  6. Our first PG cruise was the Marquesas. Great cruise, but probably our least favorite itinerary of all. As much as we have adored the past two reunion cruises, this one will more than likely sail without us.

And you met the most wonderful people on that cruise.......

This is also a no go for me.

  7. Looking for a guide for the Taha'a drift snorkel. Would like to find a provider that doesn't do all kinds of things like the pearl farm or vanilla farm- just want to snorkel. Also be great to find a tour that will drift more than once over the Coral Garden. Anybody?

Been there twice. Once on a Princess excursion and once with Bruno. The ship excursion only went to the drift snorkel area. Plenty of time either way to do the snorkel more than once. I am sure whatever ship you are in has the excursion.

  8. I checked a random round trip this November on United. $1470 round trip in economy. $4750 in business. 160K for an economy award ticket and 350K for business. Very disappointing. Also 160K leaving from Newark by the way but a paid ticket not possible at the moment. Would have to buy a separate ticket to SFO.

I can fly from New Jersey to Hong Kong for for $700 round trip and 80K round trip in economy. Twice the distance and time.

    Tokyo is 70K round trip

  9. Oceania and we are using cruise air

I know the Paul Gauguin, when you use their air gives people a day room at a hotel. Maybe Oceania does also? If not many do this on their own. Princess let us stay on board until 6pm which was nice.

Also maybe rent a car and spend the day expiring.

There are some good day tours to take also.

  10. Is there a way to tell if we will fly on one of their newer planes? We now have the flight numbers.

There’s only one plane that’s the old configuration. You never know. Many times they use it when a plane has a maintenance issue.

  11. I have had many underwater cameras over the years and I was really happy with this Olympus. I think part of it is that the camera is built to be an underwater camera as it's prime purpose, so they designed the controls to be easily operated underwater. My last underwater camera was a Sony with a touch screen... major problem though: the touch screen did not work when the camera was under water!! If I forgot to change into the underwater mode before getting in the water, then there was no way to do it. So, long story short, yes, it does matter what camera you use lol

I used to standby Sony - sold them for years - until my last one crapped out and lost its seal and was destroyed on day TWO of my last cruise!

My first generation one still works from 15 years ago but with a 2” screen its impossible to see anything underwater. Plus no audio with movies.
