1. When did you slag off? Right here:

And, if you really didn't touch alcohol, then my apologies, but as you said you got the 'premium' package which is $55/day, to make it worth your while you need to be consuming a hefty number of alcoholic units per day. As you also specifically said you didn't live by the Freestyle soda machines, suggesting not much soda either, then I'm guessing most of what you drank had more than a few drops of alcohol in it.

Ultimately, you have every right to slag off people about eating too much, and I therefore have every right to slag you off for drinking a lot. If what I say hurts you, maybe it hurts others by what you say. You feel it's okay for you to indulge in drinks during your cruise, but no one else can indulge in food. I'd personally rather gain the 7-8lbs off the delicious foods, instead of the alcoholic beverages, but we all have different preferences.

Lol all I said was I see a lot of overweight adults and kids. That was a fact not something I made up. I didn't make fun of anyone. You wanna get on me for drinking 5 days of my cruise then go ahead I could care less.

  2. I would like to think that others do not criticize people who take the elevators for only 1 or 2 levels. One never knows if there is a medical condition that prevents someone from using stairs. Some people may not appear to have a medical issue, but they certainly do. Likewise, not all overweight people eat too much. There are necessary prescriptions or medical conditions that cause weight gain even if that person goes to the gym. I have a friend that would love to bound up and down the stairs and be skinny again, but as her doctor as said to her, "You're alive and as small as you can be while taking the necessary prescriptions that you need." I wish people would be a little more tolerant of others and not be so quick to judge.

So I say I noticed overweight people eating large portions and I'm wrong for that? I didn't judge them, I just said that's what I saw just like another person said they saw drunk people. I guess they gave breathalyzer tests to everyone they thought was drunk.

Anyway, I must've struck a chord with you because you are taking this to heart. If I upset anyone I apologize

  3.
I find it kind of funny that you are talking about how you gained 7-8 pounds primarily by drinking alcohol, but then you slag off about other people's weight (as you mention both kids AND adults).

Guess I always notice the alcoholics when I go on cruises, those who are overindulging and having way more than is healthy for them. Hope your liver recovers soon!!
What I said about kids was they shouldn't get a soda package. I'm different than a kid and can easily burn off the extra calories. What I said about adults was that I see some with tons of food on their plates on cruises. What's wrong with that? Am I lying? Am I hurting someone's feelings because I care about my health? Oh I see, it's ok for you to say people that drink are drunks, but I can't mention the large amount of servings on someone's plate.

Again, when did I slag off about anyone's weight? Do you even know what an alcoholic is? Please if you're going to quote me please do it correctly. You can drink moderately throughout the cruise like I did and not even get drunk. You know the package also comes with non alcoholic drinks, right? Smh

  5. Its funny how everyone on this website says they take the stairs.

But when I am on a ship, everyone is in line at the elevators.

And nobody is taking the stairs, even 1 flight down.

I believe some people are lying....

Must be a small ship for you to know what everyone is doing. Lol

Well I think you're lying because everybody doesn't take the elevator either. I doubt everyone is lined up at the elevator waiting. I've been on lots of cruises and there's always a mix of people doing both

  7. That is 100% correct. That word should be eliminated from our thoughts. Eating healthy is a way of life.......except when on a cruise. I still eat good and don't drink more than I do at home, but I will eat desserts and other goodies that I wouldn't when at home.

One thing about the extra weight, some may be water weight. They tend to use much more salt than I do at home and the extra weight I bring back is a lot of water.

Some people don't get the difference between a diet and lifestyle change, but I'm glad you did. Whatever it is I'm not happy with it but I'm taking care of my mistake lol.

  8. We just returned from an 7 day cruise yesterday and checked the scale this morning and saw that I had lost almost 5 pounds. This was probably due to the fact that we worked this cruise and didn't drink as much as we usually do along with a lot of walking. According to our step counters we averaged 26,000 steps a day. But it is nice not have to deal with losing the weight you usually gain after a cruise.

Wow that's great. My wife also lost 5 pounds, but she doesn't drink alcohol at all. She drank mostly water and had a milkshake at Johnny rockets. The drink package was my downfall but I chose to get it and I chose to drink as much as I did. Live and learn.

  9. When we went on our first cruise in 2004 on Navigator we probably ate too much, and since we were with very good friends that we had not seen in over a year, drank a little more than normal. But we were so busy doing things, excursions, walking and even hitting the gym, the few pounds we did gain -- left us quickly after being home.

Now having taken 14 more cruises we enjoy whatever we want to eat, enjoy evening drinks....get to the gym almost daily on board, fit in the excursions we want....walk a lot on board.....and rarely gain weight. It is doable, and still enjoyable.

Unlike some people (who I have overheard talking in the elevator) I don't find it necessary to bring 'my fat clothes' that I will need to wear by the end of my cruise, because of the weight gain I had during my cruise.

Nice! What part of the day did you go to the gym? I'm an active parent with my kids and they tire me out. On my last cruise I was expecting to workout, but my wife and I ended up sleeping and just resting. We both are all over the place when we are home so it was nice to not deal with that and have a break from the kids for 5 days. Should've worked out tho and I regret that.

  10. Sensitive much? I just said I found humour in it. More power to you if you get drunk 24/7 on a cruise. It doesn't bother me what you do.

It's a cruise, and this is cruise critic. Offering life opinions on fitness, drinking, gambling, eating, smoking, parenting, is slightly outside of the scope of these boards. We all have our vices, but preaching is usually fruitless.

    Not quite 24/7

  11. Sounds like you had a good cruise!

I gained 8 lbs on our cruise in March - and we went to the gym every day, and NEVER took the elevator (yes, even after shore trips). And I still gained 8 lbs. I over ate. I indulged. I eat dessert every night. I picked up cookies at the Promenade Cafe. I had at Ben and Jerry's. And I'd do it all over again. When I cruise, my high protein, low carb life goes out the window for 7-10 days

BTW, I gotta mention that I find some humour that you point out kids drinking too much soda when you admit to the good use of your drink package :)

Kids don't work out like I do so you can point that out if you'd like and I'm not overweight. I'm an adult so I can do things my kids can't like drink alcohol. I can also go to the gym everyday and workout and lift weights and they can't. We all should want better for our kids which I do. I rarely drink and yes I took advantage of it on a 5 day cruise without my kids being with me. Sue me!

  12. OP,s a Guy not a Gal :o

Somebody has too feed and motivate a 12 year old so parent and child must follow the same lifestyle change re food/exercise for any changes to be made to one. :)

    Exactly!

  13. I don't think anyone should be concerned about dieting on a cruise (unless for medical reasons). We all need a vacation from our normal routines. As long as those 7-8 pounds don't remain with you as souvenirs, you will be fine.

I don't diet, I make lifestyle changes. Dieting is temporary

  14. We've just returned from an 8 day Norwegian cruise on Legend- didn't use the elevator once! Mind you- I haven't yet dared get on the scales...

I got on the scales because I felt bad and needed to know how much damage I did to my body. In a month or so I'll be back to my original weight so I'm not worried but I did feel bad. Gotta do better next time.

  15. I make it a daily ritual to walk a mile a day on board.... however many laps of the jogging track that is... when in the Caribbean first thing before breakfast as the world is waking up is wonderful and on a TA.... not sure how that's going to work next month in the Baltics.

I walked a lot and rarely took the elevators but I just drank too much beer and cocktails. Good luck on your next cruise.

  16. I kinda feel bad since I gained 7-8 pounds on my last cruise. I came in with a plan to exercise daily and I didn't even go to the gym once. I'm back on my normal healthy way of eating and exercise and I feel great again. I are pretty healthy on the cruise but I got the premium drink package and went a little overboard. I didn't have the massive plates filled with food, I didn't sleep next to the freestyle coke machine and I limited the desserts I had.

Another thing that I noticed was that there were lots of overweight adults and kids on the ship I went on. It was a shame. I heard one kid brag that his urine was orange because he drank so much soda. Just sad parenting even if you're on vacation.

  17. By the nature of a holiday he'll probably do more excercise than normal anyway. On cruises we walk far more than a regular holiday due to only getting one day to see each port. I'm perpetually on a diet but find that I worry less on cruises than on land, despite 24/7 offerings. If we stick to dining rooms rather than buffets the portions are quite small, so even though we're not eating overly healthily we're not having too much. And it's a holiday too. Having a few treats makes you happier to get back on track when you get home.

Seems like the kid needs lifestyle changes and not just a diet. Diets are temporary, lifestyle changes last a lifetime. Odds are he's not the only unhealthy person in his family.

My last cruise, I would say the majority of the people were overweight. Most had those freestyle cups which I'm sure were filled with soda. Most had enormous plates packed with food. Nearly no one touched the salad bar. We gotta change our eating habits for our own life and for our children if you have any.

  18. I will get flamed for this but:

Its not always the Kids fault he is "Porky" (OP,s own words).

Unless its a medical condition then the parents are also responsible for the inactivity and bad diet of their child that caused him to be so overweight.

The change has to be all or none if its not a medical condition, parents need to lead the same healthy eating and exercise lifestyle as there children even if they themselves are not overweight.

Kids who dont eat much fast food and drink much soda learn this healthy habit from their parents.

I know life constraints can lead to poor food choices and inactivity for convenience but the OP will need to diet and exercise along with her son and the rest of the family.

A cruise is not the place to enforce a low food intake high exercise/physical activity timetable unless you are already that way inclined and Buy FTTF just to score the best treadmill on embarkation day:)

Good point and he doesn't buy the food so someone is enabling him. I wouldn't put him on a diet, but rather make lifestyle changes. Those seem to last longer. My kids don't drink soda or eat much junk food because neither do I. We don't keep any juice in my home or soda. We have healthy snacks and we've been giving them to them since they've been born.

No, we actually took a nap since we were tired and were late. No one mentioned dweebs or it being a joke. Just thought it was funny that we were late. Sue me if you'd like lol
