They don't do that---not sure any cruise line does (or ever has).

How did  Celebrity know you were sick on board? Were you randomly tested ?

Not randomly tested.  As soon as I felt Ill I stayed in my cabin.  Did home Covid test and it was negative but really sick the next day.  Called Medical and they came to my room and tested me. Positive result. Quarantine.  I have very strong feelings about those who don’t test because they don’t want to be in quarantine.  Not only do they jeopardize their cabin mates health but they spread the virus to others.  I suspect that’s what happened to me.  Please don’t be a spreader!  I hated being quarantined but it was the responsible action to accept.

Re mandatory testing, Our cruise on Viking Ocean required that all passengers and crew be tested daily.  It was no big deal.  I am not aware if there were any positive tests.

Agree.  The agent doesn't know what they are talking about -

For an upgrade you maintain the perks you got with your booking like Classic Drink Package, Tips etc.   You get all the amenities that come with the room

    Retreat

    Retreat Sundeck (if available)

    Luminae

You DO NOT GET the extra perks that come with a Suite Booking -  e.g. Upgrade to Premium Drink Package, Premium Internet etc.

Please read the fine print in Move Up.  I quoted that language, not a travel agent.

  3. Apex 4/30 transatlantic.  Eight days onboard and I got Covid.  Quarantined for 11 days.  Now asking for some reimbursement.  Was advised I would be contacted by Celebrity.  Didn’t happen.  Called 6 days ago and was on hold for 1 hour 40 minutes.  Spoke with Joe in engagement center. Had to send Covid letter from medical onboard.  Told I would receive callback on Monday re verification.  No callback.  Tuesday call again, almost 2 hours on hold.  Spoke with Pat.  She needed travel partners info.  I advised my travel agent they would be calling her to confirm booking.  They have not called.  Said she would call back today.  Hasn’t happened so am back on hold at Celebrity, 50 minutes so far.

Just spoke with Jen in Engagement who advised Pat has gone home. She tells me Pat will call me back within 24 to 48 hours.

Celebrity promised that they would “insure” that cruisers would be compensated if they developed Covid.  They are doing everything possible to avoid honoring that.  I was vaccinated, boosted, and had a negative test when I boarded.  Eight days at sea and I have Covid.  I was in solitary quarantine for 11 days.  My husband was moved to separate cabin, tested daily for 5 days (all negative)and not permitted to dine in any venue so relegated to room service for 10 days.
I have spent more than 6 hours on hold. I have been promised call backs twice.  I have provided all the documentation they requested.  They have not followed through.  I am really disappointed in Celebrity.

  4. On Apex and in quarantine. Felt Ill on Saturday, May 8.  No temperature. I attributed overall tiredness due to adding an hour every night to our clocks.  Stayed in suite all day with new symptoms—cough and sore throat. Self quarantined. I had home test kit which showed no Covid. Next morning I called Medical and tested positive.

My husband was moved to another suite.  He’s tested every morning and is negative.  He is not permitted in any restaurant but otherwise, masked, he goes to the bars and shows.

The cabin attendants have taken excellent care of me delivering whatever I want from the restaurants, providing clean towels but not permitted to come into the room.

Medical gave me cough suppressant and Tylenol as well as cough drops. Tested blood oxygen and temp twice.  Felt like a really bad cold.

I will be tested tomorrow, the “5th day”.  They do not count the day you are tested as day one, instead call it day zero.  If I’m still positive I have to continue quarantine for the full 10 days.

we are back to back with a cabin change—no word yet as to how that will be pulled off (tomorrow is disembarkation for 1st cruise.)

Consider this: If I had called when I first became ill on Saturday, I would have been tested again this past Thursday.  It is worrisome to hear cruisers say if they get sick they won’t get tested to avoid quarantine, possibly exposing others in the process.

Quantine is the pits.  I’m vaccinated, boosted and almost fanatical about hygiene. On the 8th day the first 6 cases reported.  I was one of them.  Someone brought the bug onboard and Celebrity appears to be doing everything possible to contain it.

We will continue to cruise in the future.

We will be on Apex for almost 45 days starting this April, a TA followed by British Isles and Baltic. I do not want to spend any free time ashore trying to find laundromats. I know there is no retractable clothesline in the shower like other ships. I can wash things out in sink but nowhere to hang to dry. Is there a way to hook an elastic portable line (sold on Amazon) inside the shower? It has large hooks on each end like a bungee and built in clothespins. I just can’t bring myself to use laundry services as I’ve heard too many horror stories about high heat wash and high heat dry. Thanks to all for any suggestions.

Get strong magnetic hooks and string your clothesline between them!

  6. No, did not bid in Move Up because I read the paragraph about no accessing benefits of suite!  Including Luminae, the Retreat, etc. That prompted the call to Celebrity to verify I was reading it right.  If Celebrity opts to do that, it should remove the amenities that are listed….that is where I have a problem.

  7. Just spoke with Celebrity re Move Up program.  If you bid on a suite from a veranda cabin, NONE of the benefits listed in Move Up description for suites go along with that bid.  NO access to the Retreat or Luminae, NO perks of suite…just get the cabin along with any perks you have with Veranda.  Very misleading in the Move Up email.  The listed benefits for suites and Aqua, etc should be removed as they are not part of the bid. Read the fine print at end of Move Up email. “The upgrade does not include any additional promotions or amenities.  Current promotions on the reservation will not be altered.  Guests will keep same amenities they have on their current booking.”

This doesn't fall under CWC.  If somebody doesn't agree with the November San Juan COVID protocols, which were just announced yesterday, they can get a full refund.

    https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2021/07/01/royal-caribbean-will-refund-your-future-cruise-credits-if-you-dont-new-health-protocols

This is an older link, but I think the policy is still valid.

According to RC, only option is FCC.  I think if you are unvaccinated, you can get a refund.

  9. Booked on Explorer, whole family for Thanksgiving week out of San Juan.  All vaccinated except 11 year old granddaughter.  Email from RCCL today outlines restrictions.  We expected some but these are ridiculous.  We all must arrive at ship with valid Covid test taken 48 hours prior.  (Puerto Rico does not require test if vaccinated.)  Our granddaughter will be tested for entry into Puerto Rico and retested again at the boarding.
They advise three islands require ship tours only—Barbados, St Lucia, and St Kitts.  These islands require Covid tests on entry because they are dark red Covid zones.  Two have state dept “do not travel” warnings because of high Covid infection rates.  How does RC get tour exemptions?  Kids are treated like they are high Covid carriers while passengers on tour in these dark red ports are exposed to local adults and then come back to the children who are not allowed off the ship.  Who is the greater risk?  Interesting note that St Thomas and St Croix require Covid tests to enter yet RCCL says vaccinated guests can visit on their own.  ?? Will they drop that shoe next?  Below is part of the notice.

I believe that Royal Caribbean knows that this cruise itinerary should be cancelled.  Thanksgiving week the ship will have lots of families onboard, many with kids under 11.  Some may have first vaccination.  These kids are being relegated to the ostracized class.  We are not willing to leave our granddaughter behind.  The whole point of the cruise was to share travel experiences with the whole family….go to the beach, have a local food lunch….three generations together..11 to 81.

Bucks are the bottom line apparently.  Change the itinerary or cancel the cruise.
We want out and we want our fare refunded.  We are diamond plus members and are really disappointed with the lack of full disclosure by RCCL.

You do realise Viking sell cruises to more than just US customers?

The EU are playing hardball because they are upset that they are not allowed entry to US. Until last week, that is all they wanted. When there was no movement on this, they've now made this suggestion.

It's up to individual countries to ignore their recommendation and hope they do.
