    We have absolutely LOVED Luminae.
Without doubt the best dining experience in our opinion and we wouldn’t waste a single evening going anywhere else on board as we relished every meal we had there.  The staff are just amazing too.
Luminae is our main reason for booking a suite !!

Agreed that Luminae is our main reason for booking a suite. On this ship, The Retreat too. It will be nice to have our own sundeck and small pool! I find that the service in Luminae is attentive and accommodating beyond belief.

  2. Having dined in Luminae on the Connie and Equinox, I find the service to be impeccable and the food to be fantastic. The were also wonderful with our 3 year old son (as was all of the Celebrity staff). I thoroughly enjoyed the experience at Le Petit Chef on the Equinox, but, otherwise I don’t know that specialty dining on the Millie is worth it because Luminae is just so good.
In my experience, Luminae and the Retreat are far superior to NCL’s Haven overall.

  3. Make sure you bring plenty of straws and/or a handful of reusable ones (unless your LO is still on bottles only). New straw policy, and not sure if they've started with the paper ones yet, but even if they have, those aren't great, especially for small kids.

  4. You should be able to request a pack and play (and, if you like, a high chair) for your cabin, so you don't have to bring your own. If you can afford a little extra space, I'd say go for it. We found NCL to be super accommodating with our son when he was 10 mos and then again at 20 mos. We were on the same ship, and a number of he staff remembered him from our first cruise!

  5. We took our daughter when she was 1 and a half on a couple years ago without any issue. Will be leaving on the Triumph Saturday with her age 3 now and my son who's 13 months. We went with a set of parents the first time and will this time as well. Having a balcony is a must I think to hang out while the kids sleep. We had a pack and play in one room and a crib in another and will do the same this time as well. When I see all of the negative comments on how miserable you'd be on a cruise with kids, I always wonder how do these people survive at home with kids...

Balcony is a great point. I will add to my earlier post that both cruises we have done so far were on Norwegian in a two-bedroom Family Suite. We set the pack-n-play up in the smaller bedroom and let him sleep in there. Unfortunately, Carnival doesn't have any rooms that big. That being said, having a balcony is a definite must with any number of kids. Just a little more "breathing room."

You will love seeing your kids get excited and enjoy seeing and experiencing new things, Foods and places.

  6. I can't comment on logistics of five in a room etc, but as far as "enjoying" your vacation with that many youngsters, if you can drop the 3.5 and 2 off at the kids club, I think you'll be able to enjoy yourselves. Having cruised with my now 2 y/o at ages 10 mos and 20 mos, I'd have to say that cruising with the 10 m/o was surprisingly easy as compared to the more defiant 20 m/o. So I'd imagine that at 7 mos. is even better. Sure there are a lot of extras you need to take with you for the baby, but it's definitely doable. I still don't know if you'll find the overall trip "relaxing". Even if it's not relaxing, though, I think you'll find it enjoyable. On our past two cruises, I was amazed at how much everyone, crew and passengers alike, loved our little one. So accommodating too.

  7. Cheers has always been beneficial for us, even though me wife is not a big drinker. On days she doesn't drink much, she usually has at least 4-5 drinks a day with all these drinks costing a minimum of $10.95 (mimosas, wine, alchemy drinks, etc ). When you add in the several coffees and waters she gets every day, she is around the breakeven point every day. Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your perspective), I never have an issue not benefiting from Cheers.

I think we are going to do it for our upcoming cruise mainly because I know that if we don't I will numbers crunch every time I order a drink and probably hold back and not fully enjoy myself. When we've had the drink pages on Celebrity, which also includes waters and specialty coffees, etc., we found that we definitely drank a lot of non alcoholic drinks too. In contrast to Norwegian, which charged an arm and a leg for bottled water, we definitely did not drink as much as we should have. For me, the drink package is for piece of mind and knowing that I am neurotic and will otherwise be calculating the cost of each drink all trip long!

  8. I learned from cruise critic that if you order room service, to keep the tray for times when you need to carry multiple plates at the buffet. This came in handy for me because I had a sick husband this cruise and he could not carry his own food and I was fetching food for him and myself every day. Sometimes he ate in the cabin but sometimes he made it upstairs but could not stand in the lines. Also a good idea if you have small kids.

Does Carnival not have trays at the buffet Jess days?

  9. No. It was well over $1000 more outright. At least on this sailing.

That sounds better. On the next cruise on the 18th, it is only showing a difference of 200. Congrats and have a great cruise!

Yeah I did see that some of the sailings are closer in price. The tub and shower overlooking the ocean in the SC on the Dawn are amazing!

  10. Friday on the Dawn. I bid in the poor range for SF, SD and SJ. Paid for a BB balcony. Bid $330pp for an SF, $445pp for an SD and $370pp for an SJ. The price difference between the BB and SJ to upgrade was $1,360 and we will be paying $740. So we saved $620. Just got the email confirmation!!

Congrats! We are going on the Dawn too and just got one of our bids accepted. Paid for an SD. Bid the minimum $200/pp upgrade to SC and had it accepted. Was hoping for the Garden Villa but we upgraded to the SC last time and definitely enjoyed it.

  11. Any idea when they are allocating upgrades on the Dawn these days? We sail this Friday the 11th, so I'm thinking that tomorrow (Monday) would be the day we are most likely to find out, and if our bid isn't accepted tomorrow, our chances decrease dramatically. Holding out hope for that 3-br Garden Villa, but I'd be more than happy if my Owner's Suite w/ bal bid was accepted!

  12. $349++ the entire month of Sept. single rates. Inside- I always pay the lowest cabin rate. Have no clue if outsides were even available? The more flexible the better. If you need a single rate, don't expect it, until a few days prior to sailing. Even if it appears- "sold out', I've seen last minute still open up availability unpredictably. .

Thanks. Good to know. Will keep my eye out for a single rate that is bearable. Pretty sure my mother can do something "very" last minute. Also hoping that if there are cabins the prices will be relatively reasonable given that mid-May isn't peak season for Bermuda.
