I find that I am feeling decidedly old fashioned. Cost and effort aside, I love having table cloths on the tables, it gives everything a more finished look. Now, having said that, do I really care if there are cloths on the tables? No, not really, but in my own home, it is my preference. I'm traveling with friends, so it will be more my dinner companions and the food itself that I will be focusing on, not what is decorating the table.

Hehe, I'm a bargain shopper from way back. My husband loves consignment shopping as well and whenever we travel somewhere we try to find one around just to browse, though more often than not we find something that makes it's way home with us.

Took my dad for his doctor appointment yesterday which was 2 hours away from where we live. After the appointment we decided to do some shopping. Found a huge Goodwill and went in to look around. They had a pretty large formal section and I managed to score 2 formals that fit perfectly! 1 a floor length black sparkly dress, padded bust with sheer black "halter" style straps. And the 2nd dress, A floor length black heavy satin with a pink sparkly lace overlay on the top 2/3 of the dress, has a bit of poof to it in the skirt. This one has a bit of train (took it into a friend of mine who does alterations to remove the train), but otherwise fits perfectly! They were each only $10.

I love that red dress!

I guess I look at it as a matter of respect towards my fellow passengers, as well as pride in myself. While I live in a small rural community where the typical accepted level of dress is generally a nice pair of jeans and a blouse, I am very much looking forward to having an opportunity for a formal setting and intend to take advantage of it. Rarely do I get the opportunity to "dress up" outside of attending weddings. It just isn't the way people dress where I live, even to go out to eat. (For instance, a nice restaurant around here is an Applebee's) I am giddy at the prospect of having the opportunity to wear a formal gown. I can understand wanting to be comfortable while on vacation, but there is a time and place for everything. Not once would I even consider wearing a bathrobe to a dining area. Nor would I wear a bathing suit, cover up or no. But then again, perhaps I was just raised differently.

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll have to make a bit more room for my travel dryer.
-
How good are the hair dryers on the conquest? I've read the previous thread on them, but that was from 2009. For instance, my hair dryer has a cool setting, a warm setting, a low heat setting and ahigh heat setting. Usually I need the high heat setting. So are the dryers that are provided good, or weak like most hotel dryers?

Just wondering what to expect? We are sailing on the Conquest out of the Port of Miami in 44 days. Staying at a local hotel, and taking a taxi to the port. My husband and I are traveling carryon only, will we be able to take our bags directly to our room ourselves, or do we have to leave the carryon bags at the check in? Is there a specific area designated for the Conquest? Will our cab driver know where he is supposed to drop us off?

Any tips on packing dangling earrings?

I have a white lacy tank, sort of like this one, and then I have this skirt. A pair of comfy sandals and my black travel bag and I'm set. Will most likely have some jewelry and my pashmina with me as well.

There's a thread on the NCL forum in which some people feel that wearing a bathrobe to the buffet is acceptable, and everyone who has a problem with it is a snob.
:confused::eek::confused:
Makes me wonder, would they wear their bathrobe to a Golden Corral, or some other such Buffet Restaurant??? I don't think so...

I went with a pashmina shawl in leu of a sweater. But usually if I am having trouble finding something locally, I head over to ebay and check there.

I got mine on ebay. Just do a search for swim cover up and scroll through. There are a lot of different colors, and even saw a pretty blue floral one :

We will be getting the actual cruise tickets in the next week or so I think. Have to call the TA about that. Do they provide the luggage tags when you get your boarding passes?
And yes, the credit card company phone number is in case the card is lost or stolen.
-
Besides passports, driver's license, phone #s for credit card company, and copy of travel itinerary,...what else do you recommend for paperwork when taking a cruise?
-
This is the one I have, in black. I also have a long tiedye maxi dress that is pretty low cut that I will be using as a coverup.
Like this one but black tiedye

We're booked on Jan. 12. Keep her in tip top shape for me! ;)
We are booked on the same cruise, late dining though.

polyvore.com these are not the exact pieces, but are close enough to what I am actually bringing.
-
I do actually have 2 coverups packed, polyvore just didn't have any for me to use in the visual. I also have a hat not shown and of course the under garments. lol. I actually have about half of my toiletries in my husbands suitcase, since all he needs to bring is his deodorant (shampoos and body wash are provided in the cabins I'm told), which worked out for me since it basically means I have 2 toiletry bags...lol, though there are items like sunblock, aloe vera, first aid items..etc in there as well. We are sitting at 47 days and counting till cruise time! I can't wait! Especially with the bitter cold temps we have had here.

My husband and I will be taking our first cruise on the Carnival Conquest in January. Since we both prefer to travel Carry on only, I have already long since been planning my packing list for both of us. While day clothes are plain, they mix and match really well, and I have jewelry to dress them up a bit and add color. I've been skimming this thread since I found it a few days ago, and wanted to post my packing list and see what you all thought. I omitted the red dress from the final list, as I already have 2 dresses (thankfully wrinkle proof) for formal nights, and then the mix & match dressier tops to go with the black skirt. Amazingly enough, all this, plus my flat iron, toiletries, and jewelry/makeup bag fit into my carryon!

Can someone tell me what amenities are available in the interior staterooms aboard the carnival conquest? Specifically if shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc. are provided? Dh is not picky about what he uses, but I am. Figured if those things are provided (at no additional charge), I would forgo these items for him when planning our packing list.
Thanks.

We are still 52 days away from sailing on our first cruise, but half the fun for me is the packing, which I tend to start thinking about several weeks ahead of time, with many dry run packings before the final one. Here is the list I have compiled thus far. Keeping in mind, my dh and I hate lugging bags around when traveling and prefer to do Carry on only. I'm sure the list will get tweaked a bit before we leave.

Thanks for the replies on the phone and internet.
Have another question. Do you take your passport with you when you are in port? Would a photocopy of the passport be enough, or do you have to have your passport with you? I would be a little worried about having stuff stolen on beach days, or something happening to it.

Anything new travelers should be aware of when in Belize?
Nail Polish used in the spa?
in Carnival Cruise Lines
Posted
Have a question. When we were on board the Conquest in January, I had a manicure done. The polish lasted and looked good for nearly 3 weeks. Unfortunately, I didn't pay attention to what brand they were using. Does anyone happen to know?
