  1. Thanks for your review. My wife and I are on the Aug 24 Spirit Copenhagen to Stockholm. I hear what you are saying about the wines offered each night. I was going to ask for a list of the available wines the day we board. I’m wondering if you asked for a list and they were not able/willing to provide? It’s not a huge deal. But, like you said if I can see what is available I can make an intelligent decision. Thanks again for your review.

We did ask for a list, we were told none was available because some wines were available only in limited supply. We took a picture of the wines we enjoyed and showed it to the servers, since they were often confused about what we were saying. As you say, no big deal, just a little different than expected.

  2. We were on the Spirit July 17-24, our first Silversea cruise. The decor was nicely done. We enjoyed all of the dining venues, only missed La Dame. Atlantide was nearly a "miss" for us as we were at first seated in a very busy walkway. We asked for a quieter table, had to wait a few minutes, but were very happy with our second table. Silver Note was a delight (we were one of the couples that came in at 10 to listen to Kim & Didi) as a music venue. We found the menu on the night we ate there, quite confusing, in that it didn't have a defined style. Would have preferred the tapas we had read about prior to the stretch. Found the wine service confusing, they presented 2 choices each night, neither to my liking. They were able to "find" a cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir, and sauvignon blanc "somewhere on board" that were to our liking. Wish they had a list of the available wines. The Crew was fabulous! We prefer, however, a dining staff that knows us and our likings as we have had on other ships. Overall, a beautiful ship and wonderful cruise.

  3. Wow. I am so sorry for the experiences described here. Ironic, because we have always sailed "suite class" (butler, special dining, private lounge with drinks at no cost, as well as many other special amenities) on Celebrity. I was hoping for an experience that "wowed" and wooed us. Uncertain whether that will be the case, other than the smaller ship. Since the trip is 1 month away, I will remain optimistic....?

  4. Interesting thread, thank you all! We are booked in 762, so I guess the "old" Spirit and the "seam" line. We board her on the 17th of July. It is our first Silversea cruise, after being suite class on Celebrity for a few years. Any information and impressions are more than welcome.

    Enjoy your cruise!

  5. Last year we were on the Silhouette in the British Isles- WONDERFUL! The year before on the Constellation in the Baltics- WONDERFUL! We are jealous that it is now a triple overnight in St P as one day a week things are closed, so having a choice in arranging what to see and when, sounds wonderful. Loved all the ports on this cruise.

I agree with all of the above, go to the Baltic this year and the British Isles another year! Both are top notch cruises!

  6. Is it worth it to change it all, or just go in with an open mind, and enjoy? Are you just assuming the worst? You were happy to pay what you had booked a week ago, has that really changed? Maybe, but maybe not?

    Happy sailing,

    Jenna

The question of the day. We have had such an "above and beyond" experience on our last 2 cruises, it's hard to decide if we need to reduce expectations or assume that it will be the same. Not worried about more people (we welcome that) just worried about the level of service.

Thanks for your thoughtful and kind words.

  7. I'm sorry the previous poster who quoted you mis-interpreted what you said. I didn't take it the way they did at all.

I would however, like to point something out to you. I highlighted some text from your post. Aren't you doing EXACTLY that about what you BELIEVE will be the experience in Michael's Club?

Is your airfare really non-refundable, or can you simply change it for $400 ($200 / person) which is near the highest I have seen for change fees). I do understand $400 is a lot of money, but compared to being upset at $3000, it is quite a bit less.

These are tough decisions. Vacations are emotional, how we spend money can be emotional. Combined the two and it becomes even more emotional. I hope everyone who is frustrated by unexpected changes that don't benefit them, especially when their fear is causing anxiety still have wonderful sailings.

    Happy sailing to all,

    Jenna

Thank you. So strange to think that after my husband and I started our married life trying to feed ourselves for a week on less than $20 that someone would think we are "snubbing" them.

We are looking into changing our cruise and airfare, yes a change fee would be better than the $3000+ suite charge. We just had such a fabulous experience on our last cruise- the concierge made sure to it that we didn't hesitate to book at the same level.

Sometimes changes don't impact everyone the same way.

Thanks for your understanding and suggestions.

  8. Wow, nice statement meant to demean me because I am booking 2 sky suites (b2bcruises). Let me tell you why. My husband is disabled and cannot climb into the Celebrity suite tub (we've tried it) and quite honestly the cost of b2b Royal Suites is too expensive. Now, we could have just gone on one cruise but we would like to be out of Michigan for 4 weeks during the winter months. We were in the Penthouse Suite on the Solstice and while we could have used Michael's Club, it wasn't necessary for our comfort. Never would I have put down people because I didn't feel that they should use it.

So, don't worry, while we can use Michael's club this winter, we won't because I don't want some people to snub me and whisper to others that we don't really belong there.

So far from the truth. We have significantly disabled members of our family and I would whole heartedly endorse Celebrity providing additional service for those that any room is not the appropriate room for their needs.

I am simply saying that I am concerned that when you increase the demand on a service by 2/3 and don't provide information about increasing the staffing etc. it is not a good plan. Besides which changing the perimeters after booking and after non-refundable airfare is disappointing.

I welcome the chance to meet more people, believe me we are not the "snubbing" type which is why this change is meaningful. We work hard and reserving the level of room we have reserved is a luxury, not an easy thing for us.

I always think twice about writing on any blog, because people seem likely to assume the worse... This is not the case here, on my part. I have seen so much worse on the thread about formal vs. chic dress changes.

  9. I will now consider downgrading all my PH bookings to SS bookings and save a ton of money (actually enough money to sail 6 more times in 2016!)

Agreed. We have only booked Royal and Celebrity on our European cruises and Michael's Club has been busy and a reason we booked the suites. Now, with 2/3 more rooms using Michael's and the concierge services, our next cruise has been devalued. We are paying over $3000 more for 95 sq feet and no other perks? Not a wise financial decision.

On our European cruises Michael's was well used and the concierges provided exceptional service. That level of service can not possibly continue with 2/3 more rooms (on Equinox it will rise from 22 suites now 66 suites). The level of service cannot be expected to be the same.

I am disappointed. I don't mind expanding my horizons and group of on board friends (I've done that be hanging out at the martini bar or other activities). I do mind that when I booked, and agreed to pay the additional money, I was lead to believe that I would receive the same level of service as on past cruises.

    Looking at other cruise lines.

  10. I decided to take matters into my own hands. I sent an email to my Michael's Club concierge (adapting the email address I had for Bogdan). In the email I sent my specific requests and a day later the concierge emailed me to let me know that it was all taken care of.

I am quite happy, but do not understand why this concierge service ( whether it be shore side or ship side) is so uneven.

  11. Hi,

We will be on the Summit this Sunday. I received both telephone calls and emails from the Celebrity Shoreside concierge two weeks prior to the sailing. It seems it is a relatively new program, where they have one shoreside concierge assigned to each Celebrity ship to handle all of your prereservation needs and suite requests for the higher tier suites.

We were able to arrange dinner for 18 people in Qsine in advance and receive written confirmation. She was very helpful. It seems that the Michael's Club concierges were on at least some voyages being overwhelmed by respondig to upcoming passenger requests, while trying to enhance the actual experience of the guests currently on the sailing.

On Summit, the email address that is current as of this week is

    ConciergeTanji@celebrity.com

and her telephone number is 316-554-5604

We have had three Celebrity cruises this year before the shoreside program initiation this summer, and received the emails from the Michael's Club concierge the week before the sailing on two of the cruises. I will imagine that the Concierge while onboard will help fill in any last minute details or requests that may come up.

So far, I have had a very positive experience with the new program.

So happy to hear! That sounds wonderful. May I ask what suite you will be traveling in? PH, RS or CS? Perhaps that is the difference.

    Enjoy your trip!
