  1. zoncom,

I am trying to understand what you are asking. Do you think that all the cruisers who booked only the three first segments will now try to book the Singapore - LA segment? Some might, but there is a limited number of cabins. The ship will not be crowded with surplus passengers.

According to Oceania the segments will be modified they did not say how. Your April start date will be normal
  2. I am on Inside G starting 11 April, Shanghai to LA. Curious how all these cruisers are going to fit on altered itineries? Are cruisers on 3 deleted legs canceled? Or maybe ship is nowhere near sold out? Any comments?

The way I read it you are fine with no change to your Apr boarding and the cruise should not be modified. It all will still depend on how the repairs go and furher updates from Oceania.

  3. Here is the full Oceania Document that was sent out. I hope the latter part of the letter may answer some of your questions

    Oceania Insignia Update

As recently shared, we have been reviewing the extent of the damage to Insignia. We have now completed our initial repair assessment and expect the ship will remain in San Juan for an estimated nine weeks to complete the required work. Because the time needed is longer than we anticipated, we regrettably must modify our Around the World cruise and cancel the first three segments of the voyage.

Three Grand Voyages aboard Insignia, the 126-day Miami to Sydney cruise on January 10, along with the 90-day Cape Town to Sydney and 128-day Cape Town to Los Angeles sailings on February 15, have also been altered. The modified Grand Voyages and Around the World cruise will now start in Singapore on March 22, 2015, with the ship scheduled to sail the remainder of the original itinerary.

We understand how disappointing this news is and sincerely apologize for this unfortunate situation. For guests still willing to sail on the remainder of their Grand Voyages or Around the World cruise from Singapore, we are offering business class air and a hotel stay to assist them with the changed travel plan.

  4. We were aboard the Crown Princess who was docked in Bergen Norway Sept 2009. The ship was bunkering fuel when a fire broke out in the engine room. Anouncements went over the PA into the cabins that this was not a drill. The crew was mustered but then the fire was put out and there was a stand down of the crew muster. The passengers were never mustered.

    Yes to both,

30 March 2012 - A fire broke out in the engine room of the Azamara Quest. Power was temporary lost but restored the next day and the ship returned to port under its own power. The ship was out of service until 24 April 2012.

November 2011 - A generator on Ocean Princess caught fire with minor damage. The ship continued on its own power. Currently, the Ocean Princess is reported as being sold to Oceania for delivery in 2016.

    Also,

18 June 2009 - Royal Princess experienced and engine room fire and was out of service until 09 July 2009.

There are 5 - 10 fires reported on cruise ships each year. There is a more complete list of ship fires at http://www.cruisejunkie.com/fires.html. Might need to pack a fire extinguisher.

  5. You are correct in the Chaos parts but the newer ships are more resistant to to these types of incidents and are better designed to handle such a fire. Allure has had an engine room fire in 2012 but has a High Fog extinguishing system which quickly extinguished this.

We will never know what really happened but from my Engineer's point of view -- was there a similar cause of that from Azmara Quest's fire? I hope the NTSB will look at that.

When was Azamara Quest's fire I know about the propeller problem last year but not the fire

  6. The Dec 17th was cancelled on Friday

Next up RTW in Jan still in limbo

I am sure once the damage assessment has been done then some timeline on repairs will be determined

It has been only 4 days ...it takes time to assess all that my be required for repairs

I have heard the ship will be more or less sealed until investigations are finished. Then assessment has to be done and after that there would be insurance settlement. Then repairs, which may have to be done at a proper repair facility.

The best thing to do if you are on a future Insignia cruise is to sign up with the cruise critic link for that sailing to keep informed.

With that said I would personally have my doubts that the RTW will start in Jan. It may start at a later segment. We will have to wait and see what Oceania says.

  7. May have missed prior post, but, how does Oceania crew get into the your Cabin safe without combination ?

We have been aboard when checking into the room when the previous passenger had left the safe locked. They have a security code that can open the safe in that case

  8. I could not get my iPad Air in the safe. Not that I thought anyone would take it, but it would not fit. I have learned a lot about the items we need to have with us from this forum. Not to be repetitive, it I so sad.

We just got off the Regatta Dec 5th two days before the Insignia boarded.

It is so sad that there was a loss of life in the Insignia tragedy. We know many of the Oceania crew from over the last 10 years and it always feels like a second home when we board as they make us feel as we are part of the family. My deepest sympathies go out to all the families.

As for the safe unless when Insignia was redone earlier this year with smaller safes it used to have the same size safes as Regatta and Nautica. I can fit my small laptop in the safe. It is about 10"x8" and about an inch thick. You have to put it in at an angle but it will fit.

  9. Why did they fire Bob Drewes? We met him when he was shadowing Dottie and he was exceptionally nice, very polished. I read a couple good reviews about him on Oceania then he was gone.

He seemed ok to me and was the first cd on Oceania to show up at a meet and greet for CC on Oceania. However 3 days into the cruise Bob left the ship on the Orkney Islands and we were without a CD after that as they just had a lady from the entertainment staff fill in for a week until they could get another CD (Nowlin) I can only speculate why Bob left as the rumors were flying all over the ship.

  10. IMHO, the Cruise Director Changes have only just begun.

Norwegian has written the job description as that of a ringmaster of the myriad activities that they offer on their mega-ships, while the Oceania's CD's are perforce more social animals, who interact with their passengers on a far more personal basis..[/quote

    Doesn't sound too good:eek:

I agree we have 3 cruises booked and depending on how this one goes in a few weeks we may cancel our other cruises on Oceania if NCL meddles too much.
