  1. Not quite the answer you were looking for but we did it a few years back. Took the shuttle to town and then jumped on a local bus.

Information off of the titanic website:-

    By Bus or Glider
Translink operate Metro Services 26, 26A, 26B, 26C from Belfast City Centre - departing outside the Belfast Welcome Centre to Titanic Belfast. While the Airport Express 600, 600A, 600B services Belfast City Centre, Titanic Belfast and George Best Belfast City Airport. View timetables here for latest information.

Translink also operate the Belfast Glider which connects
East and West Belfast and Titanic Quarter with the city centre. There is a Titanic halt outside Titanic Belfast. View timetable information here.

  2. Just a really quick review of E208 on the ventura.

Outside cabin with restricted view but between two lifeboats so the view isn't bad.

Room itself was comfortable but a bit grubby (carpet stains, ventura needs that refit).

Toilet was very smelly despite an extra clean (again hopefully refit will help).

Noise during theatre rehersals (4pm ish) and during performances but quiet rest of the time when not in rough seas.

A quick warning on the cabin : During heavy seas the cabins moves a lot (not suprisingly as is at the front) the bigger issue is noise during heavy seas. Lots of loud groans and bangs, with whole cabin vibrating (I assuming when hull slaps on the waves). Needed ear plugs (free from reception) it is REALLY LOUD ! light sleepers may not want this room

  3. Just back from a 14 night P&O cruise and parked with CPS which we have used a few times before with no problems. But this time was pretty woeful.

Drop off wasn't bad at all, a bit of a wait but only about 10 minutes then it is was a very simple unpack the car and they take it away.

The return was a different story and not a problem i've had before, get the keys find the car and then exit the the carpark.

Only that took 1.5 hours ! There was no organisation or marshalling and all the cars driving towards a exit big enough for one car at a time. With no marshalling new queues formed as the car park emptied with people taking the shortest route to the exit (so i suspect some later people waited less time). I was a bit frustrated to see about 20-30 cps staff standing around the key pickup watching it all unfold rather than trying to control traffic. Was told by a fellow passenger that last year it took them 2 hours (So i guess we got a little lucky).

  4. a bit out of your way but there is a toby carvery at eastleigh which is quite handy for southampton.

Oh and if you stop at a Moto sevice station make sure you have the moto app installed on your phone as they do some reasonable offers (was at one last staturday lunch and got 2 regular burger king meals for £10).

  5. Hi - spike island is well worth a look (just got back from a BI cruise yesterday) :)

It's and old fort and prison - you take a ferry across - be warned tickets are not for a timed ferry so don't buy a ticket and then come back just before it leaves (if it is full i guess you wait an hour)

The pier for spike island is about 5-10 min walk from the ship head along the sea front just past the titanic museum,

    Chelsea.

  6. The goal ticket thing struck me as odd - as they were definately saying sold out - but then seemed to be selling some

I thought the guide at the goal was particularly good.

That reminds me :) ireland seemed good for Gluten Free (nice cake in the gaol hence it reminding me - i was forced :) to try the wifes cake) the centra store in cobh even had gluten free sandwiches (as did spike island brought across from the shop).

  7. Just a quick update with a couple of bus numbers.

Dublin Kilmainham gaol #13 or #40 from College Green (seemed to be every 15-20 mins or so) takes about 25 mins on the buss. Walk from stop is about 5 mins. Think the stop is Inchicore, Emmett Rd - but driver told us when to get off.

Belfast Titantic - bus 26 or 26B from the same stop we got off the shuttle from :) takes about 10 mins - and about a 5 minute walk from the stop. Stop is round the back of the premier inn which you go to just after you see the Tender SS Nomadic ( oddly we got off on the same side of the road that we used to get back into town (going back the stop is the one one the opposite side of the premier inn).

  8. Just going to do a reviewand things i think might help others whilst it is still in my memory :) 2 Adults no children by the way (from the UK)

    Cabin E625 restricted view outside.

Cabin was nice restricted view was back end of tender but could see sea/horizon through half the window.

Was pretty quiet - Laundry did not cause noise and neither did being opposite the main access point for crew. However Tender operations meant pre 7am wake up (Noise from lowering etc).

I find the rooms a bit warm even set to cold so took a travel fan (that really helped)

Bed - oh gosh so very very hard - got a pillow top mattress cover put on by steward which helped a bit - but RCL and Celebrity mattress so much better.

Sockets - I need loads due to medical equipment and it was tight mainly due to two sockets near the phone being so close together that with a UK socket convertor could only use one on them - there is one behind the TV as well and you can at a push unplug the lamps.

Kettle : UK cruises beware... no kettle (or coffee etc in room). However as on the cruise personaliser one of the PDF documents on the princess website says Non thermastatically controlled kettles are not allowed in room - i took it to mean that thermastically ones are so stuck a travel one in a suitcase - and had no issues with using it or bringing it on. (I know some of you will be horrified by this but i was happy to be told i couldn't use it but seeing i drink loads of tea it was worth trying).

Milk: couldn't find any fresh milk on board only UHT and even then skimmed was only available without asking at breakfast (near the cereal take a cup:) waiters in buffet were happy to help and get it for you though (Skimmed UHT is nearer the take of fresh milk than full cream UHT in my view)

Butter : saying nothing but escargot and olive oil rather than butter is really nasty (or a least i thought so - i love escargot and garlic butter btw)

Food allergy : I can't eat capsicum i'm allergic. Unlike celebrity or RCL they seemed to have passed the message on and the head waiter found me on the first night. Best efforts i've ever had on a cruise food ordering was great and only one night could they not provide my order (Pate) as they couldn't be sure it was okay (it was prepacked) - it didnt say chilli on it but they woudn't take the risk.

My wife wasn't eating wheat (didn't tell the head waiter as it was a choice rather than an allergy so ordered accordingly) but no gluten free cookies (we did ask) and only one cake per day in the buffet we could see so consider taking some prepacked onboard. Bread is available if you ask.

Ports : we try to do our own thing were we can so no excursion information below (they did seem a bit pricey though)

St Peters port : Tender right into town - 45 min wait for tender at about 9.00 am fort is worth a vist.

Cobh : Dock in town : (have been to area around cork before so stayed local as didnt fancy a trip to kiss the stone - but was told a 2 hour queue !). We went to spike island (just had a load of work done) well worth the 18 Euro each (entry and Ferry). Spike island is a former prison and fort. Be aware ferry tickets are not for a set sailing so make sure you get to the boarding point in advance (we got there 20mins early) buying a ticket and coming back doesnt mean you will get on.

Dublin : Took the shuttle ($8 each way) 10min walk from drop off to town. Went to Kilmainham Gaol (book in advance as was sold out on they day - free to english heritage members bookable online). Caught bus from college green - was very easy (asked the bus driver to tell us when to get off) and cost 1.70 euro each way. Visited the Archaeology museum (free) peat means great preservation of metal, gold and bog bodies :)

Belfast : Shuttle bus ($8 each way) right into town. Went to Titanic museum brilliant audio guide worth it. bus from city was £1.50 each way and easy. Bought tickets online for museum for 12:15 entry- missed timed it and got there 1 hour early - was told to go straight in.

Liverpool : Docks in city - visited before. Did beatles story museum (was surpising good) audio guide is a MUST and liverpool museum - also good. Beatles celebration later on the ship was brilliant (went twice).

Greenock : stayed local as we needed a rest :) went on the free local tour of the castle and that was good. (Free but they do ask for a donation to help pay for fuel and coach ) https://www.inverclydetouristgroup.co.uk/content/tours/

Invergorden : Hired a car well in advance (£70 for a small car kensgarage) did a drive and went to falls of shin, Dunrobin castle, the mound, and Durnock) lovely drive and brillant day.

Queensferry : Tender : 10 min wait at 8am ish. comes ashore under forth rail bridge (probably worth being ontop the tender for that). Local (not princess shuttle as none available) £10 return about every 30 mins - runs to charlotte square (10 min walk) to Edingburgh, did gladstone land, toy musuem, people museum and georgian house - all good but not outstanding.

La Harve : Stayed local as we can get to paris in 2 hours from home :) Shuttle into town $8 each way. Church is worth a view, and the Hotel De Ville park with the fountains are good. shops are of course nice, and if you need to eat and can't face french the Mcdonalds in the shopping centre Espace Coty is touch screen ordering - english available on menu (takes cards).

All in all good cruise - ship is a little worn but nothing major (just little things like our shower tray was repaired, buttons on lifts worn etc). But those beds are way too hard.

    Chelsea.

  9. Hi - I have a food allergy that means I cannot eat capsicum (I have an allergic reaction if i do).

i've not cruised princess before but thus far it seems to be shaping up the same as Celebrity and RCL. Each time i've sailed i've emailed in advance and told the cruise line and everytime the response is thanks for telling us please let the maître d know.

What then happens is (as someone else mentioned) everynight i get shown the next day's menu and get to pick food and they will make it specially for me normally in a special allergy kitchen :) (Sometimes they can't do it - but then they normally ring or they make another choice - which you can accept or wait for them to prepare something else). On the first day it's a good idea to go and talk to them well before the evening meal so you can choose.

All told one of the things i love about cruising is this makes it so much better for me than playing guess the ingredient (which is often what i do at a restuarant if i go out).

So don't panic - it's the maitre d that will sort you out just make sure you make yourself and needs known when you get on.

  10. At first I thought it was an April 1st story

:D thats exactly what i thought i even checked the date.

In a way she was lucky she didn't get close to the ship couldn't see that ending well. It's just so good this ended the way it did - this could have been so tragic for all involved.

  11. "A BRITISH holidaymaker has been rescued from the Atlantic after apparently trying to swim to her cruise liner when it left port without her.

The 65-year-old is said to have jumped into the icy water and tried to reach the vessel after changing her mind about cutting short her holiday following a row with her husband"

    From the sun :http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/7032114/Brit-tourist-rescued-from-Atlantic-as-she-tried-to-swim-after-her-cruise-ship-when-it-left-without-her.html

To be honest words fail me at this point.

  12. Just got back from the baltic and yes there was no lobster on the standard MDR - it was available only as an extra (they did do 20%) off one night.

On the whole having been on celebrity before the meat cuts seems to be cheaper ones - but it was on the whole very tasty.

So whilst no lobster also no complaints from me :)

  13. Before I start with the ports – we did as much as we could on our own as to be honest we are not keen on being dragged on an off coaches :) to this end the Rick Steve’s Northern Cruise ports is absolutely brilliant! (We cut out each section to make it lighter to carry.

    Copenhaggen.

We docked at Langelinie Quay and intended to take the bus into town but whilst we found the bus stops (bus 28) right along the pier we didn’t see a bus so we walked down to the little mermaid – get off the ship turn left and walk – it’s on the sea front so pretty easy to find (follow the crowds) – it really isn’t hard to find but really isn’t worth it but you kind of have to do it

We then realised this is the end of the Rick Steve walk so we followed it backwards, it is well worth doing as Copenhagen has some lovely places to see – beware though that things open at 10 (Churches museums etc) so it you go at 9 like us you may not be able to get into everything (oops). Toilets were plentiful, free and nice so that’s a bonus, and we really enjoyed the walk (It took a couple of hours) but if you just walked into town I’d say about 30 mins. We finished at the town hall and decided to go back to the ship. We caught a no 28 bus from right outside the Tivoli gardens it didn’t actually have the destination we expected – but we got on and asked the bus driver how to get to the cruise pier at Langelinie Quay, and the drive who spoke excellent English told us to hop on and he would tell us when we got there (cost 24kr each). He didn’t go quite as far as the pier but dropped us off right by the top of the pier (about 3 mins from the ship).

  14. Quick word on Skagen ....

There isn’t really much to do at all in Skagen. (In fact there are only a few organised tours). It’s a nice little town, with friendly people a street with shops and some fish restaurants. We just had a stroll to the town a bit of a wonder around and had a coke in a café (£8 for two eek). The church was worth a quick visit – but on the whole I’d call it a nice little sea side town with not much to do beyond a nice stroll (There are some things to visit like light houses, the point where the Baltic and north sea meet, a recreated beacon , a museum and artist house – but nothing really thrilling). Its not a bad way to wind down the holiday though (And the town is an easy 15min walk so don’t get the shuttle)
