  1. Hello,

Does anyone know whether breastfeeding is permitted in the public areas of Mein Schiff? I'm having difficulty navigating the German website.

We'll be taking a 14 night cruise with a baby who'll be 9 months at the time. Whenever we feed in public, I'm as discrete as possible, but he's never breastfed under a cover. I'm wondering if I need to start acclimatizing him to this in preparation for the cruise.

    Thanks.

  2. This forum is so helpful. Thank you so much. How very exciting! Hopefully there'll be opportunities for us to watch Frozen on-board. We haven't seen a Disney movie in around 10-15 years!

someone on another group phoned and asked.

    • 20th Formal
    • 24th Freezing the Night Away Party (Frozen themed deck party after dinner)
    • 27th Pirate night
    • 28th Semi-Formal

    But this may change

Formal night varies on the TA's. Some people go all out some people go nice dress/trousers & top/shirt. It tends to be less full uniforms due to luggage issues but it can still be seen. Last year I wore a long dress and didn't feel out of place but there were people in all sorts. I would say that as long as you look smart you wont feel out of place. You wont see many ball gowns on TA's but its not unheard of just less likely.

  3. Most people make an effort to dress up' date=' whatever that means to them. There will be a few guys in tux or military dress uniforms, sometimes a few women in ball gowns. Most people wear cocktail type dresses or something like you might wear to a fancy evening wedding, most guys wear a jacket and tie. Some people don't dress up at all, but on longer cruises they are more rare than on short ones. You can get away with a nice dress/shirt and tie, but the majority will be a little more dressed up than that.[/quote']

    So helpful! Thank you.

  4. The WBTA this year is 11 nights and has 1 formal and 1 semi formal night.

Had no idea there were any formals/semi-formals planned! Have I missed this information on the online portal or is there somewhere else I should be looking?

How formal is the formal night? We booked this cruise as a nice way to get home after a month in Europe. We usually love dressing up on cruises but had not planned on taking overtly formal items in a bid to keep our cases light.

  5. My mother and I have just booked our first Disney Cruise (transatlantic). We're hoping to enjoy the adults only sections of the ship. I'm 30 but look far younger (I'm told! Sigh!). How are the adults only areas of the ship enforced? Will I need to carry ID with me or will a cruise card be fine?

  6. Hello,

We're considering the world cruise in 2017 and have some questions.

I understand from reading this forum that the World Cruise 2017 itinerary is likely to be released and available for booking in April or May this year. Does anyone know how quickly the suites tend to sell out? Other cruise lines (such as Cunard) will release their 2017 itineraries later in the year, and we wanted to compare Princess' itinerary with others before booking if possible.

Also does anyone know what the usual percentage the third person in a suite pays? Is it full price? Does it make a difference if the third person is a baby (approx one year old)?

    Thanks so much!

  7. Wow! Had no idea the thought of a 1 year old on a world cruise would cause such controversy!

I called Cunard, and they said my agent was mistaken, and the child would be welcome in the Q4 Penthouse for the world cruise.

Needless to say, we’ve got wonderful worldwide health insurance, and will take all practical safety precautions (as in everyday life..).

I was fortunate enough to travel the world throughout my childhood, and am delighted that my child will be able to do the same. For us – a family of pretty intrepid travellers – a cruise is a sanitized and safe way to enjoy travel with a baby.

I think it’s important to remember that there’s more than one method or model of parenting. We feel very lucky to have this sort of lifestyle, and are sure that the kiddo will be enriched.

For those who are freaking out – normal life rules apply – if you don’t like the sound of it – don’t do it yourself!

  8. Absolutely no idea.

However, got to ask, what on Earth would possess anybody to even contemplate taking a 1 year old child on a world cruise? That's got to be the most bizarre thing to do.

The potential welfare/health/medical issues alone make it a non-runner, surely?

That is just plain weird. Can't get my head around that - at all.

Good thing you don't have to get your head around our decision then, eh! We’re happy with our plans, though!

  9. My travel agent advises me that Cunard does not permit a 1 year old to travel in the Q4 penthouse on the Queen Mary as a third passenger for a world cruise.

This strikes me as a little odd – as there should be plenty of space. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a misunderstanding somewhere?

  10. We had planned on Crystal for a world cruise, but were very disappointed by the 2017 itinerary, and so will likely switch to Cunard. We like the look of Queen Mary’s past itineraries, so hopefully she’ll follow a somewhat similar path in 2017.

We plan on traveling in the Queens Grill. Does the menu tend to be varied, or become monotonous after so long? Is there an additional charge for the items in the mini bar? Are these replenished throughout the voyage? We’re not big alcohol drinkers; though enjoy bottled water, herbal teas and fruit juices.

Also, if anyone has any pearls of wisdom, or things we should know about a Cunard world cruise, we’d love to hear!

  11. I'm glad you are going too! I'm sure you will have an awesome time. Life is far too short to let what others may or may not think limit what you do.

You may be surprised to know that the body size “problem” swings both ways too. I'm 5' 6”/ 115lb, and was once stopped in a corridor on a cruise by a large woman/complete stranger who said, “Girl, do you even eat?!”. A few days later – in an elevator full of people - the same woman asked me really loudly whether I was on my way to the “itsy bitsy club”. I laughed it off, but it was certainly odd!

  12. @jevv, the OP is referring to Falmouth, Jamaica.

There are published prices for the beach rides on the web, so you can see whether the cruise line's tour is significantly more expensive.

The companies I know of are:

    Braco: http://www.bracostables.com/

    Chukka: http://chukka.com/location/jamaica/

    Half Moon Equestrian Centre: http://horsebackridingjamaica.com/

They are pretty much all equidistant from Falmouth, though Braco and Chukka are "on the way" to Dunns River from Falmouth, so may be more convenient.

    Have fun!

  13. Hello,

Is it likely that Disney will change any of their ports of call by next year?

If we wanted to leave a cruise early, would we need special permission?

    Are their luggage restrictions?

I'm planning on giving birth in Fl next year, and am over-thinking everything lol. I'm trying to figure out a way to travel home without taking a newborn on a plane.

Disney seems like a great option, as we love cruising and they allow babies aged 3 months.

Disney's website doesn't seem to show itineraries for September and October 2015, though. Is it safe to assume that their current itineraries will continue? When will their itineraries for late 2015 be formally released?

    Thanks!
