  1. I bought this LV bag in Paris a few years ago. I rarely use it. I wanted everyone to have a chance to get it. Please DO NOT email me. Please post it here, in a day or two I will write all your user name on a piece of a paper and draw it.

    Hello Marie,

Please throw my name "into the hat" as well.

    What a kind gesture. :)

  2. If they're leaving you with no options and you're really unhappy with the balcony room, dispute the charge with your CC company and request that they obtain a refund for you for the total amount of the upgrade. You have the mini-suite guarantee in writing. They cannot charge you for accommodations that they did not provide.

  3. I'm sorry, but if you are traveling with a spouse/partner and need separate sleeping arrangements, maybe your relationship needs something other than a cruise.

Maybe one partner suffers from pain, a condition that causes them to need to use the bathroom frequently, or any other situation in which they need to get out of bed during the night and don't wish to disturb their partner.

Maybe one partner kicks or talks in their sleep.

Maybe they simply sleep better in separate beds and enjoy spending time together when they're awake rather than when they're asleep.

You sound like someone who is single and doesn't understand what really matters in a relationship; perhaps after some experience you will realize what a ridiculous statement that was.

  4. Any stories out there? Has anyone been cut off or have a story about a "friend" or "fellow cruiser" that was cut off???;). I wonder how much this is actually enforced. Much like the water filling station I would guess? And before anyone says that that does not affect revenue I would beg to differ. Outbreaks on ships is not good advertising!;)

I saw a man get cut off only once. He was wearing one flip-flop and had vomit down the front of his shirt. Had he managed to keep his shoes on and his liquor down, I doubt it would have been enforced.

  5. Thanks for this review! I think this app will be very useful.

    For those with iPhone/iPod Touch:

    1. Settings > General > Airplane Mode > turn this ON (green)

    2. Settings > General > Wi-Fi > turn this ON (green)

    3. Still in Wi-Fi, tap Norwegian_iConcierge (if you're on Epic) OR NCL_Internet_Breakaway (if you're on Breakaway)

    4. Register device :)

  6. Teaching responsible drinking is much better than preventing adults that have been legal for years (depending on their home countries law) an alcoholic beverage while on their vacation. I like NCL's rules regarding drinking. Our DD was able to relax with a beer or glass of wine when she was 19. Much like she did the week before at University.

I don't think it's the access to liquor that causes the kind of behavior NCL is trying to avoid. It's the fact that, for some kids, it would be their first opportunity to access alcohol without supervision - no parents, no RAs, nobody to tell them to stop acting like you-know-whats and no consequences - and no vacationer should be subjected to that. Period.

In reality, though, who cares? Growing up, my Italian family always gave us wine at meals. When we would travel, some states/countries didn't allow the consumption of alcohol by minors even in the presence of a parent, so we just... didn't get any. Nobody argued with the waiters/waitresses/cruise lines out of desperation to make sure we had wine. If someone tells a kid under 21 that they can't drink for a week, they will not expire on the deck, I promise.

I've seen grown men and women have tantrums in a Mexican restaurant when the restaurant wasn't able to serve tequila (or anything else... liquor license issue). Yeah, I wanted a margarita, too, but there aren't any, so deal. I just don't understand. Have a soda.

  7. I called recently and was able to upgrade both my cabins after final payment for not a lot of money.

Whenever I do call, I'm very careful to make the request in a way that it is easy for NCL to say "Yes". It is not easy for them to respond positively to "Please give me back money (or OBC)". Saying "Can you help me spend MORE money?" (ie, to upgrade to a higher category) is more likely to be met with success.

You should also be aware of your TA's fees. The TA I'm currently using only charges a fee ($25) when a price adjustment (say, before final payment) means a lower price. Whenever I use this TA, it's with the idea that I'll book the lowest category I can stand (and walk up the category if prices drop) or wait until after final payment and scarf up a last-minute deal.

    That's a pretty lousy TA.

  8. I'm just wondering if it's an age thing. I'm in my mid 50's and would never think to do such a thing.....

however, I think the younger generation would have no problem doing this. However, I might be wrong! LOL

So.....I'm wondering - those that would, could, or have done this can I ask what your age bracket is?

    Under 30?

    30 to 40?

    40 to 50?

    Over 50?

    Harriet

Under 30 - wouldn't do it and think it's classless.

  9. I really don't care what people wear.....

However, flame me all you want......I do judge.

Seeing someone at breakfast in their PJ's or bathrobe makes me shake my head. Why?

My thought process goes like this:

Boy, this person must really be lazy that that they can't take a few moments to throw on a pair of shorts/pants and a top.

Shesh, this person didn't even take a shower and they're in public. (or comb their hair, etc.)

This person has no pride in how they look/appear.

If they were at a hotel would they go down for breakfast like this?

I wonder how these people were brought up and how they brought up or will bring up their kids!

    This person has no class.

Again.....just my thoughts....right or wrong....I'm entitled to them.

So.....if you're in your PJ's or bathrobe at breakfast.....and you see someone shaking their head......yep, that would be me! And now....you know what I'm thinking and how I'm judging you.

But, hey, it's freestyle so do as you please!

    Harriet

I have a very similar thought process.

What's interesting is that the people who say they "don't care what others think of them" are always the ones posting here with a list of reasons to justify their behavior and showing us how much they "don't care" by listing their other positive attributes and explaining why they aren't slovenly. :D

The bottom line is... if it's not against the rules, you get to do what you want to do and I cannot stop you. I do, however, get to think you're a slob with no class and I will probably try not to use the communal utensils you touched!

  10. There were tables with big blue signs that had a visual of a wheelchair, where a family was sitting. We had to move chairs and tables and have people get up from their dinner in order to get to an available table, since the wheelchair only table was being occupied by people who decided to just plop down. Those people sitting at the WHEELCHAIR ONLY table, which had easy access in and out of the buffet area were in the wrong. We arrived at 7:00 p.m., well after the rush and it was still a crazy zoo up in the buffet area.

If this seating works like it does on trains, they would have been asked to move to accommodate you had you asked (and you are within your rights to ask).

  11. You sound too sensitive. Every little thing you don't agree with is disrespectful to you. Maybe you should stay home and stay safe.

Didn't you once say that tipping a porter to help you wheel your bags through customs showed a "lack of respect" to those waiting in line? I remember that phrasing because it was so WEIRD.

    Pot, kettle.

    Edit: Found it!

  12. Hi.I would like to know whether its ok to travel to Bahamas on a tourist visa while on Advance Parole(AP)

I have already applied for Bahamas tourist visa from New York,USA.

I am an Indian citizen.I have my H1B valid till 2015,but the H1B visa in the passport expired in 2012 and ever since 2012,I have been travelling on Advance Parole/EAD(Combo card). My I-485 is pending. My AP is valid till 2014 May.

Could anybody suggest if its ok to travel while on AP and also re-enter back to US?????

    Highly appreciated.

This is way too complicated of a question for an internet forum. Most of us are US citizens and have no clue what those terms even mean. CALL the Embassy!

  13. I am disappointed to hear that NCL is inflexible. We will be cruising the Jewel this winter during the off-peak time. My daughter is 11 and my son will turn 13 on the day of debarkation. I cannot imagine my nearly 13 year old son, who has a mustache starting to grow, to be grouped with the 6-9 years!!! My 11 year old DD loves crafts and silly games, so she should be fine with the younger kids.

Carnival is more flexible. We have had success moving my daughter up. They allowed her to move up immediately, but if they saw she was not fitting in, they would drop her down a group.

Post on your Roll Call as well - if you meet someone who has kids around your son's age that will be in the teen club, he can always meet up with them (and the friends they make there) outside of the teen club for sports, video games, etc.

  14. We are leaving on the Jewel in less than 2 weeks. I have a 9 yo dd and a newly turned 13 yo ds. My 9 yo is very social and pretty mature for her age, I will be sending her to Splash. I wish they would let her move into the 10 - 12 group but my understanding is they will not, so we will just see how it goes. My ds is pretty shy but is a sports fanatic, so I have convinced him to try the Teen Club in order to make friends with others who want to play sports. He is a larger 13 yo and very mature, so I think he will be fine wandering alone with guidelines and check ins. My dd is tiny and tends to wander, so I would not be comfortable allowing just the two of them to walk around alone. With that said, I will tell you my experience on RCL has been age flexibility with the kids program. On two different ships they have allowed my children to stay together even though they were not in the same age range. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Your son will have no problem finding others to play basketball with, if that's something he likes. The speed and regularity with which basketball tournaments are organized by pax on NCL is mystifying!

  15. There are always things that annoy me about every vacation (not just cruises) but when I look back on the trip, I never seem to remember what they were. :p I suspect the people who write intensely negative reviews are people who a) just got home and have every little nitpicky complaint fresh in their minds or b) just enjoy complaining. Some people don't enjoy things unless they can find something to complain about!

  16. True, I have not actually been ripped off. The title is inflammatory.

I am happy with the room booked, happier still if I could get the similar treatment to other passengers.

Next year with the introduction of www.ncl.scot and a price rise of 25% higher than www.ncl.co.uk some of the frustration will become apparent.

Why would they separate Scotland from the rest of the UK (if that is indeed the reason for the .scot domain) and ask them to pay more? Will Scots still have the option to book via the regular UK site? I have to admit that although I understand the reasoning behind different pricing for the UK and the US, this one does baffle me.

  17. Take those "incident reports" with a grain of salt, too, unless it's from a reputable source. Some people find it amusing to frighten others by writing up fictional encounters.

My personal favorite is the one where the dangerous dark-skinned person (all dark-skinned people are dangerous, right?!) stalks the lovely blonde-haired teenager who is described by her "mother" as having "a good figure."

Her daughter goes to a party and never comes back!

Her father (well, I think... the narrator said "my father" because she got confused about who was telling this story, but I think it's supposed to be the girl's father) goes to look for her and hears a conversation INSIDE a random stateroom!

"What do we do now? I put too much of that drug in her drink ... what do we do? What are we going to do with her?" One of them said, "I put her in a hole."

    A HOLE!!!

They pound on the door!

My mother started shouting, "What have you done with my baby? Where is my daughter?"

(Except I think it's supposed to be the girl's grandmother.)

    Then, the girl reappears!

She goes to the infirmary and the doctor prays to a deity and then announces that she's been drugged!

A mysterious phone call comes in!

Also that day, the phone rang in our cabin. When I picked it up, I heard the voice of a boy who seemed almost ready to cry. "I am so glad you got your daughter back," he said.

"Who is this? Who is this?" I asked.

He replied, "I can't say, but I'm just glad you got her back," and then hung up.

A security guard makes a mean comment!

"Where have you been, you little slut?"

The story ends with a warning about human trafficking and a statement that the family was told they had no legal recourse since it occurred in international waters.

My fondest wish is that someone will attempt a dramatic reading of this story.
