  1. This was an amazing experience for my husband and myself. We were on Oceania's Regatta cruise with 2 1/2 days in Hamilton Harbour. We were lucky to get an opening due to a cancellation. Heather is an experienced pilot and a lovely young lady. She is Canadian and did her flight school in Canada. She is a great guide as well, as she knows so much about the island. This is the best way to see it all. She even flew us over our ship so we could take pictures. We did not have a car, so Heather explained in detail how to get there by local transit. So easy to do, cheap, and lots to see from the bus as well. Time and money well spent. Highly recomend her!

  2. Hello,

Can anyone tell me if the Ruby arrives in port at 7.00 am, is there enough time for the two of us to get a taxi and catch an Alaskan Air flight from the LAX airport at 1:20 pm?

Also, what is the cruise terminal called at the Los Angeles port? Just in case it matters, we are Canadians, if the Customs takes longer to go through? Thanks so much.

  3. Hi, We are in the process of booking the Solstice for a 7 day Alaska cruise in May out of Seattle. The room number is 1158. Does anyone know if it is a good one?

    Is Concierge Class worth it?

Is the cruise post located anywhere near the port where the Clipper from Canada comes in?

The only dining option that is available is 8 30 pm. Does that mean that we will miss the shows? Is there not anywhere else to eat if wanted to eat earlier?

Thanks we have never sailed Celebrity before, (in fact have only cruised onece before on Oceania) But want to try something different.

  4. Agent is still saying Aug is the deadline. But I don't agree, so will discuss with them again next week.

I also don't agree with putting insurance in place right now, which is quoted at about 600.00 just to recoup the 500.00 deposit. That just does not make sense to me. I am willing to risk losing the 500.00.

And when I make the final payment, about Sep 1 just to be safe for the Sep 8 deadline, then I will buy insurance. Is that the way most of you do this?

    Thanks.

  5. Sorry to have to ask another question re final payment date. But...

Our 10-day cruise date is Dec 7, 2014 with our deposit already paid on board our last cruise. We will just accept O air, no devation required.

Our travel agent wants the full payment (minus deposit) by Aug 1. Is this correct?

I thought it was 90 days prior that full payment was required, which would be Sep. 8.

Also the agent states beginninng Aug 2, cancellation penalty is the total 750.00 deposit paid for 2 people. Am I correct in thinking that 120 days before the cruise date (Aug 9) is when the 250.00 pp penalty would kick in?

We don't have any travel insurance in place yet, and didn't expect to get to it until we made the final payment closer to Sep 8. So I do not want to pay in full until I do so. Or does that matter?

I do plan to pay several days in advance of the Sep 8 deadline just to make sure the monies get transferred in good time to Oceania.

When would you make the final payment? And put travel insurance in place?

Thanks for any help. Hope I have explained it well enough. I am a new cruiser, (obviously)

  6. Our ship will be arriving into MIA at 0700 this December. There will also be 5 other ships arriving at much the same time, one at 0730 and four more at 0800.

We want to make a reservation for taxi/private car/bus?? pickup to take us to the MIA airport for a transborder flight at 15:15 What time should we tell the car company to pick us up? I don't want him waiting for a long time while we all go through the customs formalities. Nor do I want to wait on him for an endless time.

Are we better off to take our time, delay disembarking as long as we can, and not get caught up in the "rush"?? If we were all ready to go, carrying our own suitcase, would O. allow us to sit in one of the dining rooms and have a leisurely breakfast till perhaps 10:00 am and disembark then?? Or should we be in the "dash-off" at 0730 before the others ships arrive??

Anyone have any experience or comments on this? Thanks in advance.

  7. The cabins you mentioned are for Category B3. I neglected to say I meant Category C- OV Ocean View. What are the best ones to choose in that category?

Curious what you mean by "perched behind tenders????

What does that mean? Are the views obstructed for all the Oceanview cabins? I would think O. would indicate that, as they do for the R ships?

    Thanks

  8. If you could have 3 wishes for booking an oceanview on either the Marina or the Riveria, which 3 rooms would you choose?

I was looking at 7082 and 7085 but wondered if the verandah wall on the adjoining cabin would impede our view in one direction a bit? Also 7067 and 7064? The same problem perhaps? So thought maybe in the middle.....7074 or 7077 might be a better, clear view out the window?

Some indicate they are a triple room. Does anyone know what that really means? More space or just more furniture/beds??

Of course, we may not have all the choices available, but I'd like to have a short-list ready.

    Thanks in advance!

  9. Does anyone know if Americans and Canadians need a visa?

If so, do we need to get them in advance in our home countiry, or does O. handle that for you on the ship?

Also, some info I picked up this week show the Domminican Republic to be an area where anti-malarial meds are needed. Any know anything about this?

I will also post on the Dom Rep. boards if need be. Thanks.

  10. Never thought to look in my packet.

On a side note, I feel that the price is far too high, and if O. is listerning, they need to realize that people today expect to be "wired" 24/7.

This is my first cruise, and I know I'm going to love O. but in future we will be seriously looking at the free perks offered by other lines.

To Oceania, if you want to capture me, you have to change this policy.
