  1. I took a small zippered pouch that had a wristband. This helped a lot when I needed my room key and maybe my cellphone. There are times where you just need to go out of your room for a few minutes, such as a quick trip to the gift shop. Sometimes I had clothes with no pockets. Once we had a trip to Bermuda and I just needed to

go off the ship and down one street to use a payphone. (I know, gone are those days). All I needed was ID and room key. This kind of bag/pouch worked great.

  2. I have done two cruises. Both east coast. First to Bermuda, second to Nassau, which turned into not going there due to a hurricane. So my question is this. Is there a cruise ship/line that only goes around Hawaii? In other words, if I fly to Honolulu, is there a ship that goes from port to port only in the islands? I see where if you want to do Waikiki but then Volcanoes national park, you have to fly to that island, rent a car and then drive to it. What I would look for is a cruise ship where you have your cabin to go back to with all of your belongings, then do shore excursions to the various destinations. Thanks.

  3. Here's how pack. I use space bags. I also roll up groups of clothing, like all my shorts or ll of my tops together. I color coordinate. I like to do the combination of blue, tan and white. I have a top that has those 3 colors in it. Then I bring navy shorts to go with it. I add just one color extra to only one piece, such as a yellow top or yellow shorts. All tops will go with all bottoms, etc. That way you use every piece to the most advantage. My husband taught me a trick years ago. Every inch gets used. Roll socks up and stuff them into shoes, the bag you bring for dirty clothes can start out with clean clothes. If possible, bring only one set of shampoo, rinse and toothpaste for all the people in your group. Ziplock bags are great for all kinds of things. One person many years ago said it helps to bring along some duct tape because hems come apart, and many other uses. What I did was take an old toilet paper tube, smashed it flat and wound a bunch of duct tape onto it. Luckily we didn't need it. Hope you have a great cruise. Oh and it helps to have a small clutch handbag on a wristband with a pouch for those many times where you only need to go down to the lobby for something or you only plan on being out of your cabin to get an ice cream or something. You can put your pass in the clutch with your cellphone.

  4. Update. They still want to go on a cruise. Now it all depends on when they can get time off. Since they live in another state than where I am, I would need to go there and babysit my 5 yr old granddaughter, which is no real problem for a weekend. I guess which cruise they go on depends on which ones are available for the time they chose. Thanks everyone here for your words of wisdom. I'll keep you informed.

  5. Thanks everyone I have finally had a chance to get back here and read your messages. If we go, I'd prefer May because I heard that is a good time to sail. I appreciate all of your messages.

  6. We are now both over 55. We can fly to Miami from where we live. Question is there are so many cruises that leave from there. I considered the Carnival Victory going to Key West for a few hours one day and then most of a day in Cozumel, MX. Is there any cruise you'd suggest? I think the Carnival cruise would have a lot of kids on it.

  7. Make sure you have comfortable shoes on. Just going from the port building up to your cabin is a long walk. More like a hike. LOL. We find the elevators sometimes packed when you first get on and got more exercise by taking the steps. Of course that was almost 7 years ago. Not sure how fit we are today.
