  1. Hi!

We've been on many Carnival cruises but never Royal. We're excited to try out Royal, but we have a few questions for our Oasis cruise.

How do luggage tags work? Do we use the sheet of paper and wrap it on our luggage like with Carnival?

How strict is the dress code for dinners in the my time dining? Can we wear khaki non-cargo shorts on non-formal nights? Can I wear Khaki pants and a button down long sleeve dress shirt for formal night? Or do I need a jacket?

For my time dining, we reserved 5:30 slots every night. Do we just show up and ask for a table for 3 that changes each night, or are we assigned a specific table we go to every night?

How does check in work at the cruise terminal? Is there a certain time we shouldn't arrive before?

How does debarkation work if we want to carry off our own luggage? Is it the same as carnival?

  2. Hi guys!

My family has been cruising since 2011 on Carnival with 7 or 8 cruises so far. However, we snagged a great deal on the Oasis of the Seas coming up in September.

It's just me, my wife and our almost 2 year old son on this trip in a oceanview balcony cabin. (First time in a Balcony!)

We know all of the Carnival tips and tricks but don't know too much about Royal other than my parents like it better than Carnival.

What should we check out and what RC Oasis hacks are there to have an awesome cruise?

We aren't big drinkers (maybe a couple cocktails per cruise) and we don't plan on putting our son in the childcare. We mainly like to relax and enjoy the free activities. We aren't big on specialty dining and just plan to walk around in the ports and enjoy the empty ship when the cruise is in port.

Thanks so much in advance for any insight. I know you guys know all the tips and tricks.

  3. Thanks everyone. Unfortunately, because we're in a DOV for 3 toward the front of the ship there is no included curtain. However, I think we'll figure out a solution based on everyone's suggestions. We'll also, of course, make sure we consider our son's safety per the couple of people that were worried. Worst case, we go to bed when he does.

  4. We're going on a cruise with our one year old in a few weeks. Our son normally goes to bed at 8PM and sleeps in his crib in his room. However, I doubt we're going to want to go to bed at 8PM.

We have considered buying strong magnets and hanging something from the ceiling, such as a thick shower curtain, to partition the part of the room the crib is in from the rest of the room. It wouldn't be perfect, but he wouldn't be able to see us. Will this work? Are the ceilings magnetic? Any other ideas to accomplish this goal?

  5. I'm thinking about booking via a non early saver rate for the first time because we're not sure if our to be 1 year old will work out well on a cruise after he is walking. We want to book PAST GUEST OFFER WITH 2-CATEGORY UPGRADE rate which says Refundable deposit subject to cancellation penalties.

These penalties are only after final payment, right?

How do refunds work if we cancel before final payment and how quickly are they applied?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help.

  6. Just got an upsell call for my October Carnival Magic cruise. They wanted to move us from an inside on deck 1 to any 2 person balcony room on decks 6 through 11 for just $300. Was a great deal, but we would rather put the money toward another cruise or more spending money on the ship instead. We don't spend a ton of time in our room, anyway.

Also, we don't want to fall in love with balcony rooms and have to book them from now on, which would make our cruises much more expensive!

  7. I know the computer stations onboard allow you to visit carnival.com for bookings, but I was wondering if it gives access to the whole website (mainly the funville forums) so that we can communicate with our family for free. We'd like to post in the currently onboard, but was wondering if we can do it via their computers rather than paying for internet access.
