  1. We also will to book a PH suite as we do not care for the layout -- there is no bathtub and, most importantly, the closet is tiny.

We love the F1/F2 and Concierge suites on Explorer and did not find them small at all (and we are used to Seven Seas and above suites). We are currently in a Seven Seas Suite on Mariner and the balcony is extremely small. This is not the case with F1/F2 suites and above.

We have been on the Mariner in a SS Aft 989 twice: Suite dimensions: 561 ft2 (52 m2)

Balcony: 286 ft2 (27 m2). The balcony was very large and included a double lounger with canopy, a round table seating 5, 2 chairs and a small cocktail table. It also has 1 and 1/2 baths. Our last two cruises were on Mariner and will cruise again on her May 6, 2018. Can't wait!

  2. It's all about timings and getting the passengers information about the event in plenty of tie. Now that I think about it on the last Regent cruise we got the notice the evening before--but had early dinner reservations and couldn't go.

That's my concern, as well. We are on the May 6 Alaska cruise and as of right now, have 20 people signed up. What time are they usually scheduled? I have excursions planed as well as dinner reservations and I'm hoping there aren"t any conflicts. Looking forward to meeting all of you!

  3. Just some suggestions for casual attire for Alaska cruises - and yes I know that they would not be after six attire. On May 6, we will be boarding the Mariner for our 6th Alaska cruise and found that the perfect daytime attire can be found on Amazon - stretch denim jeans lined with fleece or flannel and leggings lined with fleece or flannel. They are super comfy - just add a cozy sweater and you are set to go.

  4. We're doing Regent for first time to Alaska in May. We chose longer voyage that starts in San Fran and ends in Vancouver so no long flight to Alaska. Main reason to choosing May is not about kids, although that would be a bother, but the ports will be less crowded in the shoulder season. I have been told that when you get 3, 4 or 5 ships in port on same day can be extremely crowded. Hoping for good weather a less crowds.

My husband and I are on the same cruise. We live in Orange County CA and love to watch the whales swimming off the coast on their way north from their winter feeding grounds in Mexico. I'm looking forward to keeping them company on their trip north to Alaska. This will be our 5th Alaska cruise and I'm sure not the last. Everyone of them has been different and everyone of them has been wonderful.

Looking forward to meeting you in May.

  5. Thanks, TC. Off topic question, but my guess you will know. Our very first cruise on the Navigator we had the best Butler ever. His name was Leslie and we haven't had the pleasure of seeing him since. Is there a way to track where he might be. I'd love to at least see him so that I could tell him that he is one of the reason we've continued booking Regent cruises. He was SPECIAL!

  6. Thanks, TC. Our first three regent trips were to Alaska and they were great. We were on the Navigator in a Penthouse C and thought it was great.

Our last trip was on the Mariner to the Caribbean in suite 989, Seven Seas Aft, and they practically had to drag us off. We are now scheduled for the same suite for the May 6, SF to Vancouver trip. I hope they don't make too many changes.

I love the thought of sitting on that beautiful balcony and watching the majesty of Alaska as the midnight sun shimmers on our wake.

We are from Orange County, CA, and watch the whale head north to Alaska and are hoping that a few will keep us company on the way!

    Hope we meet someday.

Portolan, looking forward to meeting you onboard!

  7. Bet my bones are older than your bones. :) The Mariner has many beautiful sheltered viewing areas complete with hot cocoa and hot toddies, chocolate chip cookies and just about any other thing your heart could desire. Sure, you have to dress warm - think layer/layer/layer, especially if it's windy - but many days the sun warms the deck to a very comfortable temperature and remember that the days are long in Alaska which means far more hours of sun. Some of the views are so spectacular, you'll forget you are cold!

  8. Pinksunset, I can't make any guarantees on the freshening, Hopefully, it will be since we are on the March 6 cruise. We were on the Mariner for a Caribbean cruise in late March and it looked just fine.

Just a hint on the flight into Anchorage - I'm not sure where you are flying from but we had some amazing views of glaciers for about 30 minutes as we flew into Anchorage.

  9. Wendy, this is a little OT, but we are on the May 6, 2018 SF to Vancouver cruise. Our prior Regent Alaska cruises were late May, early June and late June. What was the downside, if any, to taking the initial cruise of the season in early May. We are from Orange County, CA and love watching the whales start their migration north in April and hope to see them swimming alongside the Mariner on the way to and through Alaska. What are the chances?

  10. To each his own. Our first Alaska cruise was on NCL and it was OK (hated having to sign a bill for every glass of wine) but i couldn't believe the difference when we took our 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Alaska cruise on Regent. Granted the big ships may "own" Alaska in terms of the space they take up at the piers, but in terms of the access to certain ports and smaller numbers of people on excursions and access to some more remote areas, not to mention the excellent lecturers that prepare you with info on both historical and current information on each port, as well as what you are seeing as the ship cruises along, I pick Regent.

Bottom line, Alaska is awesome. It will take your breath away whether you are on a big ship, small ship or something in between.

  11. Alaska is magic! We did our first Alaska Cruise on the Norwegian Sun. It was OK, but it seemed as though we were being handed a check to sign every 5 minutes. When we took our first Alaska Cruise on Regent, the difference was like night and day. Personally, I like the intimacy of the smaller ship and it felt as though we were more "up close and personal" than on the larger ships. If your Cruise includes Tracy Arm, the excursion into the Sawyer Glaciers is a must! We are headed to Alaska again in May 2018. It will be a Regent Alaska Cruise #5 and probably won't be out last!
