  1. Good evening folks,

We are headed to Rome in May, myself and my partner have been before but this time we have a person with us with some mobility issues. We are cruising with RC and are wondering if anyone has any experience on what shore excursion to take ? We have a mobility scooter but not sure if we can bring it on the buses for the tours ?

    Thanks in advance

  2. I've just got a quote back from Larry's Limos for a return trip from Miami airport to the Port and back again, approximately $240 including tips and toll charges. It's a sizable fee but compared to flights into Fort Lauderdale from Dublin it's still a considerable saving flying into Miami instead and doing the transfer to the port.

What date are you going do you mind me asking. Would be funny if we were on the same time.

Just booked direst flights with Aer Lingus this morning to Miami

  3. Hello Gary... just cruised in the UK on Brilliance... LOVED Baile Atha Cliath! :D

The following company absolutely saved me during the Jan 2017 Ft Lauderdale airport shooting with a last minute hire... and I had also used them before (Limo-Town Car both times) in the reverse direction from Fort Lauderdale to Miami, so I would like to refer them to you if you wish to consider it and get a quote from them

    FGcarservices (owner: Fransisco)

    https://fgcarservices.com/

(perhaps when you email them, mention a cruise critic referral... who knows, may offer you a "special" price?)

From your Avatar you look young(er)... Have you ever been to Miami? Perhaps have a fabulous night at Miami Beach and stay at a Miami beach hotel (ie. I've stayed at The Beacon ... seeing $150US per night in Aug). Memorable, lots of fun and excellent night life pre cruise especially on a Fri or Sat night. So taxi from Miami airport to hotel, then fgcarservices (or equivalent) the next morning to the cruise.

I'm 38. Never been to Miami before. I will defo check them out. Is FL a quiet place compared to miami??

    Thanks

  4. In my opinion it’s better to stay in Fort Lauderdale if that’s where the cruise leaves from. However if you must fly into Miami there are several shuttle companies that can get you to Fort Lauderdale. both Miami and Fort Lauderdale have several hotels that will shuttle you to the ship for a nominal fee or easier really to just take a taxi.

SAS transportation is one that is commonly recommended on this board.

Great thaks. Seems the flight and hotel combo for FL is about €400 difference for us compared to Miami

  5. Hi folks,

Considering booking the Allure for the 14th Aug from Fort Lauderdale. We would be flying from Dublin so looks like Miami will be the easiest to fly to.

I am looking for advise to a few questions.

Should I stay in Miami or Fort Lauderdale for the pre cruise night ( I have seen either place) ??

    Hotel recommendation for locations ?

Can anyone recommend a company for transfers depending on where i stay i suppose ---cheap and cheerful :)

    Thank in advance

    Garry

  6. To be honest you will probably be too excited and possibly full of beer to notice the walk back. Follow the crowd to city if your not in a rush. Ask people too if you are lost, we are a friendly bunch.

No safety concerns really, its like any city stay safe using common sense.

  7. Hi sorry for the delayed reply, it is Croke Park you're going to to see the American Football ?

From trinity college it is approx 3k. I would just take a taxi from trinity or a taxi from the port. There is options of a train but I am not a train user so wouldn't be 100% (but it would involve walk, luas and then train.)

  8. Since you are from Dublin I thought I would ask you directly a question about our layover in Dublin. We are doing an overnight layover coming back from our cruise in Venice. We arrive in Dublinat 1:30 pm on a Sunday and our flight back to the US doesn't leave until Monday at 10:50 am. We have been to Dublin before but our traveling companions have not. Thought a layover would be a quick way to enjoy the city. We want to head into Dublin and hit food & drinking. The question is whether to stay in a hotel inside the city of stay near the airport and grab a taxi into town. Any opinions?

    Rachel

Hi and sorry for the late reply (just got off the independence )

Defo stay in town not near the airport. Not much near the airport. Although you would pay a bit more for a city hotel it would be better as you could save it back by getting the bus to the airport..

  9. Good morning fellow cruisers.

We are docking in Rome on the 20th June off the Independence of the Seas. While we are a group of 8 there will only be 5 going to Rome.

We are in Rome from 7am-7pm.

Have pretty much decided we are going to go solo and get the train to Rome but the question is what to do when we get there

Is Rome easy to negotiate in terms of using the public transport ?

Should we buy the BIRG ticket or normal train ticket and hop on hop off tour bus ticket ?

Should we book colesuem tickets in advance ? If so can someone suggest where please.

If we were to use the public transport where should we start and finish.

What should we try to get done by 4pm

    Thanks in advance
