A previous poster mentioned shellfish and I'm trying to remember how many times (on ALL of my Disney cruises) I was actually offered shellfish. Shrimp at the buffet, definitely on embarkation day....as far as the rest of the cruise, I'm not certain it was there.

We had fried Cocnut Shrimp on the lunch buffet the second day on our 4 day Dream cruise. I hurt myself eating too much..lol. We raved about it to our server that night because my Wife and MIL missed lunch due to an excursion that day.

The next night when we arrived for dinner, our server presented us with a platter of fired Cocnut Shrimp.:D SO delicous! and a nice touch on his part to have the kitchen prepare it for us since it was not on the menu anywhere that day.

  2. We are taking our first Disney cruise with our 6 year old grandson on the Dream. He is not a good swimmer and uses a swim vest flotation at home. I was wondering if we need to take it or if the pools aren't deep? Do they sell this type of thing on the ship?

Get him some swim lessons before the cruise. The ship has a Donald pool which is about 6 feet deep, and a Mickey pool which I think is about 2 feet deep. You could also bring the swim vest just in case you can use it, you also will have a day at the beach so you might use it there too.

  3. Hi there,

We are a family of 3 (Me - 38, DH - 42, DD - 7) planning our first cruise this November/December on Disney Fantasy. We are looking at the 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise. And I need lots of help :) I will try and sort out a few things at a time. First I need to figure out when to sail and what kind of a stateroom to book and on which deck.

-Is there a better time between November/December?

-When does Disney normally have the kids sail free promo? If it is not in November, December - what months is it typically offered in?

    -What is a good price for 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise in an inside stateroom;

-What are the factors we should consider while selecting the deck we prefer? And what is your favorite deck on the fantasy? (we are light sleepers not sure how good sound proofing is, would definitely want to be in a quieter section of the ship).

Thank you for your time and input. :)

When to sail is up to your schedule, if you can take your daughter out of school for a week you will save a lot of money and go when everyone else is on school.

Room choice is what you want, it you dont care and inside room will save you money, but no window. We love having a deck.

The KSF have typically been on the older ships, last time it was offered was in Galveston TX? I think. I also think the KSF was also a product of the economy, as the economy has rebounded the promotions have dried up or have gotten less and less lucrative.

We like deck 9, close enough to walk up to deck 11 where all the excitement is, we prefer aft, (rear of the ship) some say it vibrates, but we only experienced that going into or out of ports due to the thrusters, and the whole ship vibrates then..

  4. We are booked on Fantasy for Nov 22-28 (Thanksgiving) sailing. We booked about a year ago while onboard Fantasy, and at that time the cost for an ocean view family stateroom was about $5K, which was about $1K less than the June sailing we were on. That being said, if we were able to go first or second week of November, the cost was about $2K less.

Just for reference, right now it will cost a minimum of $7000 for my family of 4 to get on Fantasy for the Thanksgiving sailing, and I believe that would be in an inside cabin. For comparison, the Fantasy sailings on the previous two weeks or the week after Nov 22 sailing get you the same inside cabin for $4300 for family of 4.

We booked our Fantasy 2015 Thanksgiving cruise when the prices were released a few weeks ago, we got a 7a obstructed verandha for our family of 2 adults and 2 kids (11,& 14) for $6400. We cannot wait until next year

  5. I have been researching Disney cruises lately. I really want to take kids on one but can't find what we want in our price range.

I would cruise carnival again but want to try Disney at least once to see if the price difference is worth it.

Don't book a Disney cruise to see if the price is difference is worth it. Disney commands a higher price because of the demand. I do feel they have a very good product, I have no other line to compare it to but what others have said, you can get the same type of service and food, etc. on comparable ships for less money.

With Disney, you will get an experince that no other ship can deliver, a Disney experince with the characters and everything Disney. So do not go on a Disney cruise with the notion that "I will get so much more or it will be so much better because I am paying more." You might be let down.

We went on DCL and loved it and we are going again, and right now we would not considier sailing on another cruise line, even for half the price, that's us.

A good way to to think about a Disney cruise is, if you go to Disney World, staying at a Disney resort vs. staying off property at a non Disney resort. You pay more, sometime twice as much for the Disney resort and you get immersed into the whole Disney "magical" experience. Are you paying more for a better room or are you paying for the experience, the complete Disney package.

  6. Thinking about a cruise for April 2015 to the Caribbean. Down to either (if it works out) carnival sunshine or disney magic. Carnival goes to E. Carib., Disney to W. Carib.

I have been on disney once, but it's oh so expensive. Carnival looks good but have heard some negative things about it too. What can I expect from these cruises? I have not been on one since 2006!

Oh, they both leave Port Carnaveral (sp?) and are 7 nighters

Sounds like you are trying to go during spring break? Disney jacks their prices up during spring break, if you can do other dates you would find a little bit of a nicer price with DCL

  7. Thought I would chime in, having just returned from the 9 day Wonder cruise to Alaska. It was a fine trip, but DCL definitely didn't live up to expectations considering the premium you pay to sail with them. The things they did well, they did very well - I loved the 3 Disney shows (though only having 3 good shows on a 9 night cruise was a disappointment), the character appearances, the Pixar party, and the sailaway/farewell parties were fabulous. However, the kids clubs were a big let down - not being split by age group was a problem with a 3 year old and 7 year old - things were either too old for the 3 year old or too old (or young) for the 7 year old. The club was dark and gloomy, and the lab was fluorescent - not very welcoming in either space. The kids went maybe 4 times the entire cruise, and then only because I forced them into it - very disappointing. I didn't witness any of the above and beyond service, either - not that anyone was rude or anything, but the service was certainly no better than on other lines. Food was good, but we weren't fans of the scheduled dining - the buffet wasn't open all day and other than pizza or hot dogs, it was hard to find snacks for the kids outside of the scheduled dining times. Maybe I set my expectations too high, or maybe I shouldn't have compared it to my "preferred" cruise line, but I did feel that the experience was a bit of a let down and wouldn't pay the premium to cruise DCL again!

I could have told you before you got on the Wonder that you would be disappointed after looking at all of the Princess cruises you have been on. Disney charges a premium price because they can because of demand not because of their product necessarily, albiet, I think it is a nice product and I do not feel neglected or paid too much when I have sailed Disney, but the premium price comes from the demand.

Everyday kids are born to parents that want to take their kids to Disney World and then on a Disney cruise. The parents don't care what it costs, it is a quest :). Everyday Disney has a market that is coming of age, it is really an amazing empire when you think of it. So with demand comes the high prices.

  8. Carry it on and place it in the fridge. Also check into purchasing the 22 oz DCL mug, very nice glass mug to keep, when you get it refilled you only get charged for 16 oz of beer. :D I got the 22 oz mug and I have it ready in my kitchen cabinet for my return cruise next year so I dont have to buy another one.

Plus when I am feeling "Disney" I fill that sucker up!:)

  9. The cost of our 4 day cruise on Disney is more than our two 4 day cruises on Carnival and one 4 days cruise on Royal Caribbean combined.

We still have 40 days until we sail on the Dream. We are looking forward to our cruise and expect to have a good time.

I just keep thinking is 4 days on the Disney ship going to be better than 12 days on other ships?

Hate to disappoint ya, but you have siked yourself out by comparing DCL vs other crusie lines on number of nights vs. cost. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

We love Disney Cruise Line and got hooked on our first 4 night crusie on the Dream. We even decided to book a 7 night over Thanksgiving for 2015 for 6400 for 4. It is that nice for us.

I have a friend, she and her family and friends love Carnival and they sail them because the cruises are so cheap, I thought about trying to talk her into a Disney cruise, then I thought, she would hate DCL because she would walk around all day on the ship thinking, "why did I pay so much for a Disney Cruise, I could have sailed a 25 night cruise on Carnival for the same price!"

It's not about the price, its the experience and service for us. too bad it is too late to cancel.
