Hi, we are John & Paul from Glasgow, Scotland. Usually recognisable on formal nights as ‘the guys in the kilts’ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Oooh, sounds lovely, my grandparents were from Scotland, perhaps we will run into you guys some day.

  2. We are sailing on HAL Nieuw Amsterdam, June 22 from Vancouver to Alaska.

We booked that one because we have some friends from the UK (straight couple) who are doing that cruise.

Never bee on Holland America before -- but we always seem to have a good time, and meet fun people, no matter what line we are on.

  3. I don't want to be the board pedant--but when the same error in terminology is repeated three times....

The Royal Afternoon Tea offered for an upcharge on Royal/Regal/Majestic Princess is not High Tea. Afternoon Tea becomes High Tea when adding a hot savory dish such as soup or quiche. Princess' version of Royal Afternoon Tea merely adds additional sweets (a hot sticky pudding and fresh berries). Plus the choice of individually brewed pots of tea--which you actually can get for the asking at the standard Tea in the MDR.

But for the OP this is moot as they are on Star Princess which offers only the daily included Afternoon Tea. My message is: eat a light (or no) lunch--especially as tea time has been recently moved up from 3:30 to 3:00 most days--and just enjoy the delicious sandwiches, sweets and scones and the white glove service.

Thanks for the clarification - I think people get confused about what is High Tea.

I'm looking forward to cruising on Ruby Princess next month ... and believe it or not, I do prefer the tea to be already brewed - rather than a tea bag and a pot of lukewarm water that is not hot enough to steep the tea.....

  4. I'm cruising to Alaska on Princess next month... and I'm thinking that the Beverage Package is not that good a deal - I'll just buy the beers by the bucket, and bring some wine on board. I love a draft beer vs a bottled beer, though. I wonder if they will have the new beer selections by September?

  5. I was wondering the same as above. And I read mocktails were around $7. Is that true? My kids like mocktails, but I've never paid more than $4-5 for them.

Also, does each person in the cabin have to get the soda package if one person does, or can it just be a couple people in the cabin?

I guess I will have to look at the prices - to figure out how much it would cost me - to get a mocktail (with the package) and then just add a shot of liquor.

  6. Question (maybe a silly question) -- So if a person buys the unlimited Soda package, and orders a mocktail, can they also order a shot of liquor and pay for it, and the bartender can mix it all together?

Seems like that might cost less (Soda package for $8 a day vs Beverage package for $68 a day). A couple of shots of liquor can't add up to $60.

I see that you can also order a bottle of rum or vodka for your cabin. But that would mean ordering a mocktail, then walking back to your cabin to add your own booze.

Enquiring minds want to know !

I agree with you, I always look for and/or start a G&L roll call but have only rarely had anyone else join. I've had similar experienc with the other LGBT cruising specific website/forum. :(

    S&S

Look at the top of this page and there is a link to the G & L roll calls.

Thanks, Clay ! duh, :o I found the link now !!

Our experience is usually like most of you have shared - we run into gays and lesbians (and even some nice straight people) once we are aboard and hanging around.

It's funny, ever notice how you keep bumping into the same people?

  8. We are booked on a Transatlantic Cruise from Miami, Fl. April 20th for 14 nights to Southampton. The ship Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas...We arrive in Southampton (London area) May 4th. We will be greeted by friends who will drive us to their estate, Cliveden, for morning coffee and luncheon near the Thames. After lunch we take the underground into London Paddington and make our way to our hotel Giles for three nights in the city.

From London, May 7th via Eurostar, we arrive in Paris to be welcomed to my favorite home away from home hotel in Paris, Le Bretonnerie, in that most wonderful and deliciously sinful neighborhood, Le Marais. After our sojourn in Paris, May 14th we will take the Thalys to Amsterdam for a final relaxing four night stay in Amsterdam before flying home to Florida via Reykjavik, and New York. Join us!

Please...Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions or questions?
