Even with the wines, you need to be careful in the MDR as with the packages at $10 for Classic and $17 for Premium you'd think you wouldn't have to drink much to make it worthwhile, but the 'Premium' wines served in the MDR are mostly between $11-14, so the up-charge is relatively low.

Same goes for moving between classic gins and premium gins, typically around a $2 up-charge...

Unless you routinely paid an up-charge to go over the Premium limit with your choices, or you drink a lot at the Martini bar it is going to take some effort to make the current upgrade cost worthwhile...

Yes that makes sense, and I didn't know you could just pay the difference between the included and the up charges .  ....I think it's about $425 CAD / $300 USD for the 2 of us to upgrade to Premium right now

We were on the Edge back in February and had upgraded to the Premium Package.

As far as the wines were concerned, we found that a lot of the premium wines that were supposedly on the menu were not available unless we were dining in the specialty restaurant and that was sporadic at best.  That annoyed me to no end because that was the main reason we upgraded.

It would have been more economical if we had just upcharged when needed.

We have the classic on our next two cruises and we will not upgrade.  We have a boat load of OBC to use.  If I want a bigger martini - so be it!

This is great info!  So no problems to pay the difference between the drinks, and the staff know that's okay?

It depends on what you drink.  If you drink primarily cocktails, beer, soda, lattes, expresso then the Classic package should be fine.
On the other if you are primarily a wine drinker then you may want to check the wines lists on the app to see the price of the wines you would prefer are on the Classic or Premium package and at what price.

The Classic has a $10 limit.  If you see wines you would like in the $11-13 range do the math and determine if the cost to upgrade is less than just paying the difference + 20% gratuity.

Oh I didn't realize that you could just pay the difference on a drink to drink basis. That's fantastic.

  4. Not sure if this was mentioned in this feed yet but there is that Marine law for ships leaving from a US Port ( Seattle ) going to a destination in the same country (Alaska) that the ship needs to call into a port in another country so they don't violate this old law - which is why most ships port in Victoria BC for a few hours on the Seattle sailings.  Kind of hard for them to do when Canada has closed the ports until at least July 1st.  Really sad for everyone.  Alaska is just the best.

I could be wrong but I think they were amongst the first to announce these cancellations.  I think they were working on exemptions to the PVSA ... but them Alaska out heir restrictions in place over the last couple of days and that more or less ruined the early season up that way.
I am booked on an early season sailing on another cruiseline and no cancellation announcement as of yet ... although now, I know it’s coming!

The Canadian Goverment banned cruise ships over 500 people back on March 13th.... for arrivals into Canadian Ports until at least July 1st  - with a policy revisit date of June 30th.  It was just today (this afternoon) that X and RCI finally came out with information on it (2 weeks later)

    Why?

The reference was not about what you were getting back or credit or whatever, I could care less about that part....the conversation with the other CC member based on the fact that for 2 weeks the information on Canadian ports closures was out for public knowledge and backed up by the Canadian Government websites and as of yesterday Celebrity still had not given their reservation staff any direction on it.  At all.   Now leaving your staff to have to say "We are hoping the Canadian Government changes their mind" or "Really,  I haven't hear anything about the Canadian Ports closing, on our end this ship is still sailing on June 28th"  is IMO not a great way to service customers or staff

While you are 100% correct that they are struggling to keep up with the current volume of cancellations, I still think that it's incumbent upon them to announce the cancellation of cruises that they know full well will never sail. They could do so with an accompanying announcement that, due to the unprecedented situation, refunds and/or FCC's would be delayed by "x" many weeks or months, and that in the meantime, they will be working on establishing replacement itineraries.

Exactly!!  To call in 3 times to reservations to get updates and to have them say this sailing isn't cancelled it's still happening just makes me shake my head.. It was almost 2 weeks ago that Trudeau said no ships. You think at-least giving your reservations staff something intelligent to pass along to customers would be helpful LOL

My train of thought is that they can only handle “so many” cancellations at a time and perhaps struggling with current cancellations and to find some kind of replacement itinerary for the ships who usually do Alaska (IF that’s even logistical or feasible, considering the current climate).

So, although their web site is a mess and not accurate (not defending the mess at all); but at some point - passengers need to take responsibility and make their own decisions of whether to cancel or not and not wait for the announcement from X.

I couldn’t even imagine travelling in May or June at this point in time - COVID19 is far from being under control.

Air Canada Vacations a Canadian whole sale company that does packages vacations to Mexico, Caribbean etc has just changed their final payment date to 25 days out.... now I know that X has the 48 hour out  policy to cancel your sailing but I think in the cases like this where final payment is not collected, but it's a sailing date before July 1st  they need to extend the final payment date until they know what they are doing with the ship.

The point of my post was simply to point out that nothing appears to convince them to face the reality that they should be cancelling now all of the cruises that start in, finish in, and/or visit Canada prior to July 1. But as they are unwilling, you are left with the choices of cancelling now, or waiting for them to do so at the last minute if you want to hold out for the 125% FCC.

Isn't that kind of shi&&y for their customers though... doesn't really look good on them IMO

This isn’t all about whether cruises will be cancelled. It’s also about what will be open when you’re there.  In Seattle we’re a couple weeks ahead of Alaska with the spread and dozens of bars, restaurants, hotels and retail businesses are closed.  I do wonder with distancing issues if getting on a bus in Denali with 50 others sitting next to each other is a good idea, or will even be allowed. Hopefully by the Alaska cruising season this won’t be a problem.

But anything from Victoria or Vancouver BC will NOT be sailing until at-least July 1

  11. 15 minutes ago, Fouremco said:

I couldn't agree more. Celebrity is still silent about a Vancouver - Hawaii cruise that is less than three weeks away, so it's unrealistic to think that they'll be commenting on a cruise three months away. Cancel now unless you are willing to wait it out for the 125% FCC.

But the government of Canada has advised they can't come here... it's a hard no, no ships until at least July 1st...

Misty - you are before final payment. Celebrity is still catching up from last cancellations as show by FCCs from March 3rd estimated out mid-April.  Stop stressing and either get a mindset to cancel or wait for X to cancel.  News by March 30th?  Possible but not likely.  Will your cruise happen?  Your analysis is pretty good.

Analysis... the Canadian Government flat out said no ships.... there is NO chance this cruise is happening out of Vancouver or Victoria ... I'm not stressed I just think it's pretty crappy they can't make decisions on it before the final. (now they still have 6 days)  One reservation agent at Celebrity I had said "We are hoping your Canadian Government changes their mind" HAHAHAHAHA ya okay

  13. On March 13th the government of Canada said no cruise ships over 500 people until at-least July 1st in our ports... The transport minister will not review the policy until June 30th.... I have 10 people on the Eclipse on June 28th and final payment is due March 30th.... they still don't know what they are doing with this ship and they say it's not cancelled and they have not modified the itinerary yet and I would sure hope for the good of all the passengers that they decide before the March 30th final payment date.  I'm sure this is affecting all the other customers on earlier sailing in and out of Vancouver as well and hope they will have some info before March 30th

I researched the brewery after hearing about it , reading about it's location and seeing pictures of the old brewery and new. From what I recall the owners/ brewers sold the brewery and recipes to a local restaurant and the location moved to restaurant location in the village. It did not sound like the new owners were brewers but very enthusiastic to continue the breweries traditions.   I would like to know if someone has tried the beers since the brewery moved to it's new location . from the beer list nothing pops out but I would try a flight to support a local craft brewer, just wish it was on the water like the old brewery seemed to be. maybe they bottle and I will just have to brown bag it.!

Oh interesting!  I would also like to hear from anyone that's been (this year, which should happen soon) or after this move.  I had read on trip advisor about people sitting at the brewery watching the harbor (possibly with whales) and I thought it was still on the water.

No - Icy Strait Brewing is right in Hoonah - it was a little closer to the ship (relatively) on the edge of town when we went in 2016 but it looks like they moved a bit further in and have expanded their offerings. I don't recall any food when we were there. Icy Strait Brewing

It has been 9 years since i have been to Cabo and Pancho's. At the end of our tasting our host not only invited us to his daughter wedding the following May (we were there in January) but gave us a sample of jose-cuervo-reserva-de-la-familia. Oh my was that smooth tequila! That is expensive stuff.

That's awesome!  I love Cabo!  We will go there for sure.  The good stuff is very smooooooth!

I was on Equinox in November last year. No bar on the ship had Anejo tequila. I had a Premium package for 2 reasons only. Single Malt Scotch or Blue Agave Anejo Tequila. I don’t like mixed or sweet drinks. However,  this was not the case in previous years on Celebrity, as we have only sailed Celebrity. I developed a taste of good tequila when I visited town of Tequila, near Guadalajara in Mexico. Did a tour of one of the oldest distillery That produces Tequila by name of HERRADURA. That is where I learned that Silver (or Blanco I think) is bottled right after production, Repssado (rested) is aged a bit longer and Anejo and extra Anejo are ‘old & extra old. We will be back on Celebrity again in the summer, hopefully we will find a bottle of single malt scotch or Extra Anejo Tequila. My last (3rd) choice was Red Dry wine. Drank that exclusively, In absence of Good sipping Tequila or Single Malt Tequila.

Well fingers crossed for both of us that we can find some Anejo while on our cruises this summer.... you think with a premium package they would understand that their customers know what top shelf is and what it's not lol
