  1. We will be on QM next June stopping in LHavre and are interested in visiting the American D-Day Omaha Beach using a Cunard excursion. All of the their excursions show a price of $999. Has any one taken one of these excursions recently with Cunard and can tell us the cost was? Thanks in advance.

  2. This guy with his dog was on our Anthem cruise 3 weeks ago. Carted the animal around in his little cart getting oohed over by some passengers. Saw him in the dining room with the dog and asked our head waiter why they allowed dogs. His comment was that the dog can sense when the guy’s blood pressure goes up and warns him and that he is a frequent customer. At that point my BP was up. Wonder what he does if the dog warns him!

  3. I feel your pain. I was on that cruise, too. Unless something like this happens well before the cruise date it is often difficult to get the cabin you want.

I hate to say this, but it was a big mistake to wait until today to call. The 3 cruises they listed as price protected were all pretty well full. . . then a thousand or more displaced passengers started looking for cabins.

I called first thing Monday morning and after many calls back and forth with my TA I got a cabin. But, it was not the type of cabin I had. I am bummed, too.

But, the email was clear that if you cancel rather than moving your cruise to another date you would get your deposit [or any money you paid] but, that was all.

We were on another cruise until Sunday. It was the other beanies that we were loosing that has us upset. We tried to switch to another sailing, but would lose all our other discounts. When paying that kind of money, why accept something you would not be happy with in the last night run.

  4. After our TA notified us on 5 Oct that our Grandeur 16 March 2019 cruise had been cancelled, the three of us called RCCL on 8 Oct to get info on the only alternate cruise they offered that suited us. This alternative would have included an additional $200 OBC. After a very long hold a very business-like and unsympathetic RCCL rep said all cabins on that sailing are sold out so the only alternative is a cabin guarantee. We don't care for the possibilities of that so we cancelled. We had booked the original on board so it included several discounts and was an excellent price plus substantial OBC. The rep did promise a return of our "non-refundable" deposit but the good price and all OBC would not transfer to a new booking and would be lost. We have cruised RCCL a lot and are Diamond level but are very disappointed with RCCL's response to their own cancellation. We hope to see our deposit returned!

  5. We would like send an email of thanks and appreciation for services provided by the medical staff on our recent QM2 voyage. Can any one recommend a name and email address of a Cunard exec that would have the most impact?

  6. Just back home and a few comments re Quantum. Spoiler alert, we are old time cruisers and prefer the MDR approach; no Dynamic Dinning bashing. We were on the three day sampler in Nov so we knew what to expect. Our approach was "go with the flow". She is a beautiful ship with lots to do especially for the younger set and families. As has been said before she is like a floating hotel. We had calm seas and hardly ever felt her move.

We were in 6147 which was quiet but partially obstructed which we didn't mind at all.

Boarding in Nov was a breeze. Met as we walked in by an attendant with tablet and were on board in 5 minutes. This time we were ushered to a row of seats with about 20 others and an attendant started with one couple that took her at least 10 minutes and it seemed like she had to do everything twice. Finally some other attendants arrived. Were were told that we had no credit card registered even though I had done that on line months ago. She registered our card for the second time. Finally after 45 minutes we were on board. (Days later we got a message that we did not have a credit card registered so we were on a cash basis. A visit to Guest services fixed it.)

We found dining twice in both Chic and American Icon was loud with a constant stream of customers and staff milling around and we felt rushed. Get a seat near the windows! It seemed like no one knew what they were doing. We enjoy sharing and were only asked once if we would like to share. The Grande was very nice, not rushed and much quieter and calmer with Radu as an excellent server. We were in Chops and Jamies which also were quiet and calm and not rushed. Service by Alex in Jamies was exceptional. Had a window table in Chops with a wonderful view of the lifeboats!! Food was good everywhere but except in The Grande, Jamies and Chops it was simply eating not dining.

We had an email some months ago offering OBC for multiple reservations (on line only) at specialty restaurants. It took 4 trips to Guest Services to get the OBC at 13:08 on Thursday?

Two70 is a wonderful place to hang out and the Cafe there is good for light breakfast and lunch. The Ice Bar there was great for evening drinks looking out on the ocean and sunset before dinner. Port and Starboard sides of the Solarium as you enter have lounge chairs overlooking the ocean by the windows. It is likely the quietest place on the ship.

It was a relaxing and warm get away but we would not do the Quantum (and maybe Anthem)again

  7. Pros :)

Very quick and easy boarding as long as your uploaded photo and documentation meets specs as described

No more medical form to fill out, questions asked by your greeter via tablet

    Very attractive ship overall

Larger shower, if you drop the soap you can actually bend over to get it

The obstructed view in our port side forward cabin was minimal, could see the ocean

Soap and toiletries provided in bathroom

We had a non functional 110 vac receptacle next to the bed (for CPAP) and it was fixed within minutes of a call to maintenance

Cabin seemed longer but a little narrower so on the whole a little bigger

The ship is really a floating resort hotel

    Don't miss MamaMia, it's great

Food in Chic or American Icon was good but not great

    Cons

For our three day there was over a half hour wait for parking at Bayonne

We found no quiet lounge for a drink before or after dinner

Seems everywhere there is music it is a little too loud

Audio in the theater is extremely loud except for MamaMia which was perfect

The band in Two70 was deafeningly loud, could not possible hold a conversation, had to shout in a bartender's ear to order a drink

We didn't find any ballroom dancing venue

Although WiFi signal was good almost anywhere internet speed was slow which will likely be fixed

There were a lot of kinks that will likely be ironed out in time some due to cold weather

We still prefer MDR to DD

Diamond lounge on deck 4 was too small and spilled over into the Music Hall. Would have preferred a Viking Lounge topside

Seemed very family and young people oriented.

Very high tech an iPhone or iPad will help. No Android app yet.

    Suggestions ;)

Make dinner reservations on line prior to cruise. Many people could not get a reservation or at a time they wanted on board

Our cabin on port side forward heard (felt) the baseline from the Music Theater until the wee hours. Stay aft or up

  8. We are booked on the Quantum next March. If I understand correctly then "Formal" in The Grande is not really formal but kind of smart casual. We are old timers and enjoy dressing up so we booked The Grande assuming it would be "Formal"; Tux or Suit. Were not able to get a definitive answer from RCCL customer support except that the dress was formal.

Guess the days of Classic cruising are coming to an end.

After a request for clarification, had a response from RCCL Executive Offices who stated unequivocally that dress in The Grande is truly Formal, Suits or Black Tie for Gentlemen. The "What to Wear" on the website is to be corrected. We will see!!
