DIY Sarande, Albania

Recommended Posts

  • 4 weeks later...

We did this back in August 2017, the bus accepted euros (1 euro per person each way), and we didn’t have to exchange for local currency at any point in Albania.

We had no problems finding the bus to get there, out of port turn left (North) up the street for a couple minutes or so to the roundabout, the bus stopped at the north side of roundabout. Not sure how frequent service is since the bus was already there when we arrived and we didn’t have to wait. The bus we took on the way there looked like a standard public transit bus.

Coming back was a little harder, there didn’t appear to be a designated stop for local buses and there were a dozen tour buses lined up on he side of the road, we got lucky and ended up finding the fare collector on our first trip and he directed us to a bus (a coach bus this time) to head back to Sarande. We ended up getting off a few stops early to hike up to Lekursi Castle and walked back down through the beach back to port with plenty of time to spare.
