BabsM Posted February 25, 2006 #1 Share Posted February 25, 2006 We just booked our pre night stay at the Days Inn Miami Civic Center. Has anyone ever stayed there? We are a family of four. We will be arriving late evening. Is it in a safe area? Is there a restaurant within walking distance? What transportation did you use? The hotel told me to take the 'Super Shuttle' from Ft. Lauderdale airport. They have their own shuttle to the pier the next day. Oh...we will be on the March 25th sailing of the Sun. Thanks for any info you may have. zandramarie Posted February 25, 2006 #3 Share Posted February 25, 2006 How is the Holiday Inn, Port of Miami? About the best price I have found for a pre night before we cruise out of Miami on the Zenith in March.
BabsM Posted February 25, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted February 25, 2006 What is wrong with the Day's Inn Civic Center? Is it the location? Is the hotel clean. We will only be there 12 hours or so. We are not fussy.....more concerned with safety and location in an unfamiliar town. Thanks.
LUCY55 Posted February 25, 2006 #5 Share Posted February 25, 2006 Babsm, I follow this board and value the opinions here. You are a family of 4--kids right? Would you want them to stay in an unsafe area and dumpy hotel? Apparently hotels in Florida can be pretty bad. I don't think you know by just working on-line what you are getting. I know nothing about this particular hotel but have stayed in Miami before. I will check on what we used--great hotel. We are staying in Ft. Lauderdale the same day as you. suzeyQ Posted February 25, 2006 #7 Share Posted February 25, 2006 We originally booked the Days Inn and then I checked the reviews on Trip Advisor - it sounds awful. We've now booked the Hampton Inn, for nearly the same price, and it's gotten great reviews.
LUCY55 Posted February 25, 2006 #8 Share Posted February 25, 2006 The Hampton Inn we stayed in is booked. Other Hampton Inn's are available. This is a nice hotel including a good breakfast. The airport west is available for $149. I don't see how at this point you can pay less. The Hampton Inn airport west has free shuttle from airport. (We did this for the Dadeland Mall Hampton Inn (full) and it worked out fine. This is the one we stayed at.) You need to call about the free shuttle to the port. The problem I saw was that if the shuttle is full you either have to wait for them to come back our you have to spring for the cab fare to the port. At the Hampton Inn we stayed at it worked out great. Free shuttle from the airport and free shuttle to the port. You need to call and ask. I have 3 kids and getting the shuttle service both ways and the free breakfast adds value.
BabsM Posted February 26, 2006 Author #9 Share Posted February 26, 2006 Ok, Thanks for all the advice. I just booked a room at the Comfort Inn Airport in Holywood, FL. Any advice on this one? All the places I call seem to be booked. I still want it to be clean and safe and not spend a fortune. Has anyone stayed here?
signman Posted February 26, 2006 #10 Share Posted February 26, 2006 This one sounds only slightly better than the original Days Inn, and now you will be paying more for transportation. Unfortunately you were not aware that your weekend is prime time for Spring Breakers, and just the height of the winter season, and reservations should have been made way in advance. Unfortunately you were not aware that your weekend is prime time for Spring Breakers, and just the height of the winter season, and reservations should have been made way in advance. Can you consider renting a mini van or SUV (current rates are around $35 before taxes) to be returned to the Miami Airport, or if Avis, even a DT Miami location? What you would save in transportation might allow you to spend a little more on your lodging, and you could also stay a little further out. For example, Expedia is showing the LaQuinta Cyress Creek, (about 15 min north of FLL) for only $109. This is a safe area and there have been positive comments about this hotel on these boards. Then drive to Miami at your leisure, even drop the family and luggage at the pier, then return the car and shuttle back from the airport on the rental car's shuttle. On a Sunday, you won't have to deal with that much traffic.
