Have you taken Santo Domingo Tour (RCCL/Celebrity), from Casa De Campo ?

FYI, I'm posting this on both the Royal Caribbean and Dominican Republic forums.

.

.

.

We're stopping in Casa de Campo and want to see Santo Domingo, so we plan to take RCCL's Santo Domingo Tour *

(also offered by Celebrity).

*
We spoke to a CC-trusted Dominican tour operator who recommended we take the ship's excursion due to the time constraints of getting from the ship to SD and back.

Approximate schedule:

----
Arrives Casa De Campo:
-
7:00 AM

----
7-hour Tour starts:
----
7:30 AM (approx)

----
Time in Santo Domingo:
-
3 hours (?)

----
Returns to ship:
-------
2:30 PM (?)

----
Departs Casa De Campo:
-
5:00 PM

The tour description says "Enjoy lunch and have time to shop for Dominican handicrafts". Hmmm...

  • For us, eating authentic local Dominican food will be as important to us as sightseeing.
    .
  • To eat a real Dominican meal, we're willing to skip the shopping! (Even miss a sight or two!)
    .
  • We're 2 guys, one if us fluent in Spanish, & both of us are comfortable in 3rd-world settings.

Questions:

---For those of you who took the tour, could you please help with the following if you can?

  1. Lunch is not included, correct?
    .
  2. Where did you have opportunities for lunch (or to get food instead of shop for souvenirs), and how much time did you have?
    .
  3. Were there any areas nearby to get authentic local Dominican food?
Time permitting, we're willing to walk a couple of blocks for non-touristy food.
    .
  4. On the way back to Casa De Campo, did you have the option to get dropped off in La Romana instead of returning directly to the ship?

Thanks for your help and suggestions! icon14.gif

Hi! We're still looking for answers to Questions 1-3;

if anyone here can help, we'd greatly appreciate it!

We found that for #4, we're walking distance from the main area of La Romana, anyway.

For information on Dominican food options in La Romana, here's what I've been able to find:

Thanks! -RSS-

Hola Rogelio:

Just a thought but you might try calling C&A and asking them if the tour includes lunch.

We're on your sailing & have a great thread on Rollcalls. In fact I understand we're the 2nd most postings of all of the Serenade current sailings rollcalls.

Come on over. LOL.

No lo entiendo; quien es Senor/Senora "C&A"? :D

LOL -- Thanks, I'll go ahead and do that too! I just trust what our CC amigos say more, and first!

See you at the rancho! :)
