Eclipse - few questions...

We are booked to go on the Eclipse in August 2010 (W Med 14 nights). It is our first Celebrity cruise (have been on P and O and Cunard) and I wonder if anyone can answer a few questions please?

 

1. Do Celebrity run courtesy shuttle buses into the local town or do you have to pay for them or make your own way?

 

2. On the P and O ships they have 'themed' nights eg Tropical, 60s-70s and of course black and white. Do Celebrity do these? Some friends of ours have just come back from a trip on the Equinox and they seemed to think there was one evening when a lot of people were wearing red? Having said that about P and O though, on the Oceana last month the tickets mentioned the themes but the communication was somewhat lacking and we were never told when they were with the result that the themed clothes came home unworn!

 

3. Do they offer a ticket where you can buy unlimited coke, lemonade etc for our teenage children?

 

4. Do they offer 'freedom dining' - where you can eat at different times each day or is it just the set times - at the moment we are booked for the late sitting.

You will love the X ships, definately up there with P&O not as stuffy as Cunard.

 

Shuttle Buses - They charge depending on Port, we have paid $5 and up to $10 each return or sometimes back & forth as you wish. Some ports have their own buses (Civitavecchia for instance) to get you away from the container port, these are free.

 

Themed Evenings - Never been to one on any of our X cruises although they did have a 'white night' on the 'M' class ships in that awfully decorated bar at the edge of the Earth lounge - since changed its name and its decor on Millennium. Don't know of any other themes.

 

Yes you can get a soda card - they put a sticker onto your room key/card. You have to get it for the whole cruise not daily.

 

The dining is not known at this time for the Eclipse, they are phasing 'any-time' dining onto the other ships - Denny has posted these dates:

Equinox: 26/09/09 Solstice: 1/10/10

Constellation: 1/17/10 Century: 1/23/10

Millennium: 2/1/10 Summit: 2/13/10

Mercury: 2/15/10 Infinity: 2/28/10

Eclipse: TBA

 

Maybe they will bring this out on Eclipse as she is launched once they know how it is working on the other ships in their fleet. The Solstice class have so many other options for dining anyway compared to the other ships in the fleet.

 

Just keep coming back to the boards especially after her launch in April and you will find a lot more out.

 

Whatever happens you will have a great cruise on this new ship.

I can't wait!!!! We have got what seem to be good cabins at the stern of the ship, concierge class - it just seems so long away. Trying to find a short cruise between now and then to keep us going.

We've also booked on Eclipse in August next year. What date are you going? Don't forget to join the roll-call, if one exists, as you can get valuable info from seasoned Celebrity cruisers.
