Thank you so much for your wonderful review! It brought back so many wonderful memories as I was getting off of the Legend the day that you were getting on!!

I, too, did not really take notice of the urns!! But, to see them in your pictures now, is too funny. What I did notice, however, were all of the mirrors! I found that to be very distracting and hard to get used to. It was odd walking around the first few days, trying to find your way and the mirrors somehow made it more difficult.

OMG - I just noticed how many views this thread has!

Anyway --- here's the wrap up:

We stayed until the bitter end - last boat back to the ship was at 2:00 - we were on it. They took us right back to where the ship was docked rather than back to the pier where we started

The dancers we saw when we got off the ship were still there

I made a quick trip to get my fridge magnets, and back onto the ship. Early sail away today, I think it was around 3:30 (can’t find my capers for this day).

one quick shot from shore

You can see the pier where you get the boat over to Fins and Flippers here, it has the thatched roof

The guy that walked us over to that pier said the construction next to it is supposed to be a casino. He was very proud of the fact that they are getting a Wendy’s and Applebee’s. I am glad they are prospering, but would hate this place to lose it’s identity and become just another place with all the US chains. I remember when KFC and Lum’s came to downtown Nassau when I was younger... what a change, and not for the better.

Leaving.... for now .... hopefully not for long ......

Tonight was the 2nd “cruise elegant” night, and again, everyone seemed to know how to dress! Escargot for me, please....

And of course, dancing waiters. Here’s our waiter, Tiyo, doing the YMCA. I think he enjoyed himself a bit too much!

After dinner we went to the Firebird Lounge and listened to Lifeline - they were pretty good - 70’s music, right up my alley!

The lounge itself is a trip - a bit over the top

The show tonight was another production number, I think it was called The Big Easy ??

A lot of New Orleans references.... it was really good, one of the best we’ve seen onboard. Here’s the grand finale:

2388365740059432091S500x500Q85.jpg

The next day was pretty much a repeat of Monday ... at sea ... our same old routine (no complaining there, if we didn’t like it, we wouldn’t do it

that reminds me of something my grandmother said .. she had a store in Nassau on Bay Street for years - one day a hesitant cruise ship passenger put his purchases up on the counter, condoms and a box of dramamine. Gran took one look at them and said, “Honey, if it makes you sick, don’t do it!” She was one of a kind!)

So... breakfast in the MDR, up to the aft pool for some sunning, swimming, reading, and drinking (you know it’s not in that order!). Lunch in the MDR, back to aft pool until time to get ready for dinner. dh found the saunas and showers in the spa years ago, so he heads up there to get ready, I go to the cabin and get ready, and we don’t kill each other this way! I started packing (he has no clue what goes where, we would wind up with nothing to wear the next day, and dirty clothes in the ‘headed home’ bag)

Did what we haven’t done for a week... set the alarm to get up in the morning. Darn, it’s almost over.... it can’t be... we just got here.... someone check the calendar.

Sure enough, we woke up the next morning in Tampa, and they actually want us to get off the ship. Someone else will be sitting at our table and sleeping in our beds - I know how those 3 bears felt. We chose to put our luggage out and not have to drag it off ourselves (I value my toes). We had # 16 - so we hung around, reading and just waiting to hear our number. We were off sometime around 9:30, grabbed a porter (their line is the shortest) and we were in our car about 20 minutes later. It was much more fun to see the whale tail ahead of us rather than in the rear-view mirror.

Now it’s back to the real world, we will stop to eat and they will bring us a bill (and no 2 appetizers - heck, no appetizers at all!!). My S&S card has no power anymore :(

Final thoughts:

Ship: a bit “over the top”, but fun. Well kept, the crew was working hard to keep everyone happy (although I did talk to a few people on the ship who must have been on a different cruise from me, with all they had to complain about, As soon as that starts, I make a move for the bathroom!)

Cruise director, Jen (insert ‘queen’s parade wave’ here) - enthusiastic without being annoying - I talked to one elderly man who had mentioned to Jen that he really enjoyed Puck (the magician) - Jen arranged for them to meet - points for that!

Easy to find your way around. Lots to do, or not do - music, games, demonstrations, food, drink - if you can’t find something you enjoy, you need to stay home.

Food: Good, not fabulous, but I didn’t send anything back. We always had trouble picking which entree we wanted, they all sound good. This is a great time to try new stuff, since you can send it back and get something else. No problem ordering multiple things, either. (can we say “two escargot, please” )

Overall - a great time. We went where we where scheduled to go (doesn’t always happen this time of year, believe me, we know!), the weather was great, most people we met were having a good time. Only thing I didn’t like was the short time in Roatan! This is one we would do again, and I’m sure we will!

For all you scrapbookers out there: I bought a 250 piece scrapbook kit onboard - at the photo area, for $11.95. Also bought a pack of papers for $9.95. Guess what I’ll be doing while I’m recovering from surgery! Just sent about 275 pics to Walgreens to be developed!

Hope you enjoyed my ramblings... it’s like reliving it all over again from my recliner!

Thanks to those that offered good wishes for my upcoming knee replacement - even tho I am the first one to put on the big chicken suit when it comes to needles I know this needs to be done. It will make the next cruise much easier - I can take the stairs again (who knew I would be envious of those who took the stairs!!!) and burn off some of those extra calories.

Happy sailing, everyone!

Did you have any issues with the case at all? I wanted to just get the cheap case (as opposed to the $200+ housing I've seen other places) but the reviews were kind of mixed, and I didn't want to take a chance with ruining my camera. I'd much rather use the digital than the disposable ones though!!

Thanks for the review!

No trouble at all. The instructions tell you to test it out in the sink with paper towels inside it first to make sure it works. I checked it every few seconds the first time I used it, but after a while I relaxed (and only checked it every minute or so!!!) It worked well for me.

Thanks for the wonderful review. My first time on Carnival this Oct and I will be looking for all the urns. Your review made me want to leave immediately but a trip to your home state comes first. Best of luck with the knee surgery. When doing therapy, just think of all the sights you will be able to see next cruise and the steps you will be climbing.

How is Indian Rocks Beach? I sure miss it.... go down to the beach at 20th Ave. and watch a sunset for me (lived on 20th Ave. Pkwy)

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. I'm just ready for this surgery to be over (and the PT - my PT is a friend, we decided this weekend that we both think the therapy would work MUCH better if it was done on the beach somewhere.... wonder if insurance will go for that???? HA)

Thanks for taking the time to write this great review and I echo the good wishes for your recovery. Now in all of this, did you post the new name for Fins and Flippers? I cant find it if you did,and that is where I want to go

It's going to be Maya Key, here's their website:

http://www.mayakeyroatan.com/en/index.html

Enjoy - we will go back there, even at $50 I think it's a good deal - cheaper than a lot of the cruise ship excursions and a lot less people (at least when we were there .. ). You'd pay almost that to get a taxi to and from any of the beaches - I'm sure they are all beautiful.

  • 3 weeks later...
Once that important task is accomplished, it’s off to find the cabin

4172, good location – close to the mid-ship elevators, no one across the hall – that’s the 2nd little window in the atrium. We could faintly hear the music from the bar, if the TV was off and the door to the balcony was closed…. Faintly, very faintly. Luckily, he was great, so we didn’t mind a bit! Our luggage was waiting for us at the door, so it was time to get unpacked and relax before the muster.

Here’s our home for the next week:

I like this layout for the bathroom – the toilet makes a great footrest when I am shaving my legs! Not all ship bathrooms are good for that!!

Me too! How do they expect us ladies to keep lookin' good with that small shower?!

What an interesting fascinating review ! ! ;) Thank you so much.

Cruised the LEGEND several years ago and absolutely loved her also. I was also amazed at the urns. :)

Loved the pics and great sense of humor.

I love that hotel! The first time we were in the area we tried to stop there, but they were hosting Vice Presidential debates.......I don't recall the year. We went back by there later on and stopped to walk around and see what people there looked like! We were amazed to find they looked like normal people! One of my most vivid memories is of the most attractive female I have ever seen and how she proceded to shower off the sand and changed out of her flashy bikini as she did so. Other people just walked on by like it was nothing, but I literally could not move. :o I am sure my eyes were like this smiley>>>>>>

Would you believe I sailed on Legend earlier this year and didn't really notice that all those urns were actually urns? Yes, I wondered what they were, but never concluded they were urns. :D

*********************

y'know Paul....

I was born in Fla and raised in the Clearwater-Largo, St Pete areas, and I have yet to see anyone changing out of her bikini on the beach....YOU LUCKY DAWG!!! lol (Yes ladies, It's true! We men are pigs!!! :D )

Thanks! I enjoyed reliving the cruise as I wrote it. I'm just one of those people who doesn't worry about anything - it just makes you feel bad! I leave that to my dh, who worries and stresses about everything, so we balance out to one "normal" person!
