cellgirl99 Posted January 2, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2005 Has anyone been to the Hard Rock in Grand Cayman? How far is it from the boat docks? Any idea on what you're looking at cab fare wise? Thanks, megan
simkoreb Posted January 2, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2005 I was there on my last cruise, 1.5 years ago. It's right across from where you tyender in, like right across, can't miss it!!! I did read a few months ago that it has not been open b/c of the hurricane, but I can't verify that. Maybe someone else knows...
zydecocruiser Posted January 2, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2005 HRC is very close to the tender docks - less than a block. A little further down is a Harley shop that is open, I believe. You'll see the Atlantis biz to the right of where the tenders dock and HRC is across the street. It was closed last I was in GC and is not supposed to reopen until March 2005. But who knows? Actually the website just says Spring, 2005: http://www.hardrock.com/locations/cafes/Cafes.aspx?Lc=CAYM It is the only HRC where you can get tshirts with stingrays on them! I got mine a while ago. waterbound Posted January 3, 2005 #5 Share Posted January 3, 2005 Hope it opens before we visit the first week of March... We went there October 2003 and it was great.. You can see it from where you get off the tender.. Very closeby..
kjunea Posted January 3, 2005 #6 Share Posted January 3, 2005 I am a HRC pin collector and they info that I have says it should be reopening in the Spring, but not when. Things in the islands move much slower -- ie The Ritz-Carlton on GC took 4-5 years to build!
zydecocruiser Posted January 6, 2005 #7 Share Posted January 6, 2005 Sometimes they move faster.... HRC appears to have reopended in GC!
gr8memories Posted January 7, 2005 #8 Share Posted January 7, 2005 Just returned from New Year's cruise on the Enchantment of the Seas. Hard Rock Cafe is open but is only serving a limited menu of cold items - salads, sandwiches and wraps. They expect the full menu to be back in Feb. or March. Jeanne B Posted January 8, 2005 #9 Share Posted January 8, 2005 Is the store open? We're leaving on our cruise next week and I was hoping to be able to get t-shirts. I was disappointed when I heard they were going to be closed until spring so it's good news to hear that they're open earlier than expected.:)
gr8memories Posted January 9, 2005 #10 Share Posted January 9, 2005 Yes the store was open. They are fully stocked with merchandise!
michigal Posted January 9, 2005 #11 Share Posted January 9, 2005 When we were at the HRC in Grand Cayman last year, I had the best "foo foo" drink. It came out of one of those icy drink machines (the ones that rotate). It tasted like a chocolate shake but it had coffee flavoring added to it. Has anyone else had it? The bartender told me how to make it but I forgot most of the ingredients. If anyone knows the recipe, I'd be grateful if you'd pass it along. Thanks! NYCchic Posted January 12, 2005 #12 Share Posted January 12, 2005 gr8memories - how was the Enchantment? I'll be on her March 5th to 10th...can't wait! Not much recent info on her - would love to hear what you thought of the ship. Thanks!
Stranger1 Posted January 13, 2005 #13 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Yes, HRC in GC is open. Did not go in last week, but saw several people coming and going.
gr8memories Posted January 14, 2005 #14 Share Posted January 14, 2005 We loved the Enchantment. The ship was beautiful, food was great (we were worried about this) and the staff was wonderful. RCCL did a great job with menus and special things for New Years Eve. Have a great time!

sea_u_onboard Posted January 15, 2005 #16 Share Posted January 15, 2005 FYI - The prices on the menu are GC currency - so expect your bill to be more if you are paying by US currency or Credit Card (rate was $1.25 to the dollar when we were there - so about 25% more). It was a little shock - plus they automatically added in the tip - it's in small print at the bottom of the menu. I didn't notice until after I paid the bill or I would have reduced the tip - the waitress was horrible - never checked on us once - until it was time to pay. erRN2be Posted January 15, 2005 #17 Share Posted January 15, 2005 To buy t shirts at HRC...is that payable in Grand cayman currency also? Does anyone know if they have larger sizes (2x) in the t-shirts? Also, someone mentioned that there is a Harley shop just a little farther down...how much farther down? My husband really wants a t shirt from the Harley shop.. Thanks

That would be un-American. ;) There is a Harley shop less than a block away. http://www.harleydavidson-grandcayman.com/index.htm They go up to 5XL. You can see both from the tender dock - Harley mostly obscured by the Atlantis shop, but you can see the top of the building. zydecocruiser's Album:Conquest 11/7/04 Zydeco Cruise Click on the link above to view the 2 pictures in this album. kjunea Posted January 16, 2005 #19 Share Posted January 16, 2005 The last time I was there, they did not honor the AAA card for the discount. The didn't even honor the Pincollectors card FROM Hard Rock! They now honor the pincollectors card, but I don't know about the AAA. The Harley Shop is just a few doors down, if I remember correctly. Everything is clustered pretty much around the tender area, so you should be able to find it without too much problem. Don't forget the rum cakes! all5bolens Posted January 22, 2005 #20 Share Posted January 22, 2005 most every store in Georgetown takes Cayman or US dollars, but they almost always give change back in Cayman, so make sure you bring some 10s and 20s so you won't get too much change. You could always use it up before you leave by buying sodas or snacks somewhere. You can charge almost anywhere.

TheWog Posted February 1, 2005 #22 Share Posted February 1, 2005 Our friends wanted to eat there last week. Only options on the menu were turkey sandwich or ham sandwich each for $9.00. They passed and we all made our purchases and left. Not sure why they didn't have more of a menu, but thought we would let you know.

I have read that they haven't really recovered from the hurricanes this last summer. Probably the reason as they have a rather extensive menu normally. TheWog Posted February 1, 2005 #24 Share Posted February 1, 2005 That's what I was thinking too, but they weren't forthcoming with an explanation. Oh well. They were fine and we had food on the ship.
