Vantage Grand European River Cruise (River Odyssey)

We have booked on the Vantage 9/23/2010 cruise. We have been on several ocean cruises but this is our first river cruise. Is there a difference between the C and D cabins that's worth $700? What are the rules on bringing alcohol on board?

There is a board dedicated to River & Canal cruises. You will likely get many more responses there. FWIW, after many ocean cruises, we loved our river experience.
