Why does everyone put D in front of descriptions of ppl? Is there a key so that I get the abbreviations?

I don't use these abbreviations but I believe the D means Dear, Darling or sometimes Damn. LOL. So DW would be darling wife, or dear wife, however you want to say it. Other examples are DH, dear husband, DS - dear son, DD - dear daughter and so on.....

I don't use the abbreviations either. I never quite got why "D" is used. I mean, when talking to your friends or coworkers do you insert the word "dear" when referring to your husband, daughter, etc? So why do it here? Sorry... maybe there is some reasoning that I don't know of, but I just don't get it.
