txsmiles Posted October 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2009 We're too late for Alison - she's already booked. Any other great personal recommendations for dive ops in Cozumel? We'll be in port in December, four divers. We've got about 30 dives, but no "drift diving" as we've mostly been in lakes in Texas and a week in Bonaire where currents weren't an issue. We're looking for a SAFE operator, who will work with the ship schedule, and take out a small group for 2 great dives. Appreciate anyone's thoughts! bruce-r Posted October 8, 2009 #2 Share Posted October 8, 2009 Four divers could get their own boat, captain, and DM from at least a few of the small boat dive operators. Some suggestions, in no particular order: http://www.divewithmartin.com <---- decent operator, does private charters http://www.scubatony.com <----- Haven't gone with him, but was pretty nice at the beach club during surface interval http://www.bluextseadiving.com <---- personal favorite, highly recommended http://www.bottomtimedivers.net <---- gone with Raul too. Nice guy. Will take a group of 4 http://www.living-underwater.com <---- have heard great things about Jeremy
dirvin0500 Posted October 8, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 8, 2009 Antonio and Chellie Costallanos (sic) from Eagle Ray Divers were so good to us and so patient with us in May 08 when we did a "Intro to Scuba Diving" that we were hooked. We got certified in Mar 09 and have been diving ever since just returning from Puerto Morelos Mexico diving the Meso-American reef. Eagle Ray Divers has older slower boats but warmer, friendlier, and more patient dive masters.
scubas Posted October 8, 2009 #4 Share Posted October 8, 2009 We have dove several times with Allison, she is first class, she will make good reccomendations to you. We dove with with Eagle Ray Divers last year and we had to end up rescuing our dive master, his tank fell off, due to the old equipment and not doing through checks. Also,They were 2 hours late arriving to pick us up at the marina for the dive. We took another couple which went out on their discovery dive and when we caught up with them, after our dives they said that after we left they sat for another two hours before heading out. I hate to deal with Dive operators that do not consider time schedules important. Please use someone else!
dirvin0500 Posted October 10, 2009 #5 Share Posted October 10, 2009 WOW, my apologies. We had a super experience but we went by ourselves with one dive master. Sorry you had such a bad experience. What Dive Op do you refer to when you say "Allison"?

IPA region 30 member Posted October 10, 2009 #7 Share Posted October 10, 2009 We've used Sand Dollar Sports on a few occasions and have had great service with them.
bruce-r Posted October 10, 2009 #8 Share Posted October 10, 2009 We've used Sand Dollar Sports on a few occasions and have had great service with them. They provided the dive excursion for several of the cruise lines. Depending on which cruise line you are on, you would not be able to make reservations directly with them. rednose83 Posted October 15, 2009 #12 Share Posted October 15, 2009 We're in Costa Maya on the 6th and plan to dive with Mayan Palms there. Have you ever been there? Yes. We were there in Jan. We dove with Dreamtime out of Majuhual- the little fishing village outside the port of Costa Maya. It's part of the same reef in Coz. Beautiful! beckyjohns Posted October 15, 2009 #13 Share Posted October 15, 2009 We've dove several times in Cozumel (many times from a cruise ship and we also spent a week there diving a few years back). Our by-far favorite dive charter is Aldora. They operate 6-packs, so chances are you'll have your own boat all to yourselves. They put all women divers on high-pressure steel 100's (same size as an aluminum 80) and all men on high-pressure steel 120's, so bottom is NEVER an issue. I remember one day we spent over 3 hours under water over the course of 2 dives. They will send a divemaster down with the group and he will carry the flag for you. All you have to do is drift! They will accomodate cruise ship times, whatever they happen to be. Their shop is located downtown. We've usually come into the southern piers that aren't in town. While they are not allowed to pick up passengers down by the southern pier, they will drop you of as close as they can on your return, so you can walk back to the ship without getting a taxi. Dorothy Posted October 26, 2009 #14 Share Posted October 26, 2009 Sand Dollar was at our resort, but they were more expensive than who we ended up booking with. We went out 3 days with "Dive with Martin". Dives were drift dives and were the best I've experienced so far. I can very much recommend, Dive with Martin.
