Any NON-Smoker free cruises

Well let's see........How is Joe Blow who is drinking on my ship harming me physically:confused: The only person he is harming physically is himself.......

That's a misconception about alcoholism (which is what this poster is referring to with the 12 step program comment). Why do you think that alcoholism is referred to as a family illness?

We are not talking about alcoholism or even drunks for that matter it was a question about a non drinking cruise............I was referring to how Joe Blow passenger on my ship who drinks harms me physically........opposed to Suzie smoker who is smoking next to me in the casino........

Joe would be only harming himself while Suzie would be harming both of us physically........

Although your argument is correct, you're still missing what that poster was trying to say...

Now the funny part....I just looked at the title for this thread again without looking at the content of the messege....

"Any NON-smoker free cruises"....

Answer.....

Carnival will still want you to pay for your cruise even if you don't smoke.....:D

I just had to do that.....:p:eek::D

That's like one of those "mind bender" trivia contests. Along the lines of "can a person jump higher than the Empire State Building?"

Well if that is the case then she thinks anyone that drinks needs a 12 step program:rolleyes: Maybe she should have said a non alcoholic cruise;)

No, not anyone that drinks needs a 12 step program, and I don't believe that this poster was saying that. However, what was implied was that some people that would have a problem with a non-alcoholic cruise might be the same ones suffering from this disease.

Like diabetes, and cancer, alcoholism is a real disease. Unfortunately it's such a poorly understood one that people get very defensive anytime that someone brings up the possibility that they may have it.

Now let's get back to smoking! :D

LOL! It amazes me how these threads can get so twisted.....of course an alcoholic would have a problem going on a cruise that does not sell alcohol........if that was what the poster implied then of course.....but the poster mentioned a non drinking ship.......not everyone has an addicted personality.....but that was not even my point to begin with ...sheesh.....my point was how someone drinking next to me on my cruise would not hurt me physically as oppossed to a person smoking next to me.....

But for those of us that don't drink, do you think they'll have a non drinking cruise? If any one gets riled about that idea, it's time to get to a 12th step meeting. If the shoe fits.....In the big scope of things how we choose to live our lives is between us and our higher power, not us and some body else. The heck with it, what ever happened to freedom and the right to choose?

The poster did use the word anyone. The way I read it, the poster is saying that if you don't like the idea of a non-drinking cruise, you need a 12 step meeting.

Kurbanfan is right on that one. And she's right about second hand smoke. And I am a former smoker so I can see both sides of the story.

They get twisted because some (but not all) smokers will say ad do anything to justify the addiction.

The more smoking threads you read the more that becomes clear.

And that's why they always end up off topic and with the same old flames and personal attacks.

Kurbanfan:

With all due respect, I'm not trying to twist things, but some of the comments that you're making reflect poor understanding of the disease of alcoholism, which is why I felt compelled to jump in. You just made another comment of the same nature.

An alcoholic would NOT have a problem going on a cruise that doesn't sell alcohol. What you said would be the equivalent of saying that "someone with lung cancer would have a problem going on a cruise that does not sell cigarrettes". Maybe you're confusing alcoholism with alcohol addiction?

As I said before, let's get back to smoking! :)

Ok now you have gone and done it.........I am not confusing anything, but for some reason (personal maybe) you are turning this into something it is not:rolleyes:

Maybe you are confusing addiction with desease;)

Well, I keep trying to steer things back to smoking but since you insist, I do happen to know a lot about alcoholism. Not only do I have people close to me who are affected by it, but I also work locally with teenagers, many whose lives have been affected by parents who are alcoholics, and I'm required to be properly educated to address the matter.

To clarify things, an alcoholic is not defined by how much he/she drinks, but how your body metabolizes alcohol. Technically, you could have one drink a year (or zero), and still be an alcoholic. Many people go their entire life being an alcoholic and not realizing it (just like many are diabetic and keep eating sweets, not realizing that they are diabetic).

Those who have been diagnosed as alcoholics don't have any business being near it. Once they recognize that they can't consume it, they're better off away from it. That's why I said that an alcoholic would actually be much happier in an alcohol free cruise.

Once again alcoholism is not the same thing as alcohol addiction.

Yes, our conversation has taken a turn away from the main topic, and that's why I would like to stop it right now. Please understand that the reason why I brought this up is because of some comments you made which unfortunately showed a lack of understanding about it.

Now, please, let's get back to the topic of smoking! PLEASE :)

OMG! Get educated!!!

First of all I think I am more then educated about alcoholism then you could even understand....second of all you are the drama llama that started this whole conversation about alcoholism:rolleyes:

I was merely pointing out the other poster of their really bad example;)

I grew up with a father who was an alcoholic........he died of cirrhosis of the liver (a real disease) caused by alcoholism (addiction).......so please save me your drama........

See here's the thing.........alcoholism causes many diseases.....cirrhosis, heart disease, cancer etc.......nobody ever dies from alcoholism....they die from the diseases it causes........just like smoking.......

Gee, that seems rather rude.

And Kurbanfan did try numerous times to return to the original topic, you seem to be the one to continue to dwell on the alcoholism topic.

Who am I, just a thread lurker, a neutral third party.

It's not drama. Having a loved one who suffers from alcoholism doesn't mean that their family members will educate themselves about the disease, attend meetings, support groups, etc.

Whether you have or not is none of my business. However, the first thing that they'll teach you is that alcoholism is a medically proven disease, and not the same as alcohol addiction.
