San Juan Condado grocery store

Recommended Posts

I saw a post (I think it was lschrage) who stayed at the Radisson in PR and mentioned the Pueblo?? grocery store. Is anyone familar how far this is from the Radisson, we are flying a few days early next week before our cruise and will want to pick up some beer and snacks etal. Does anybody know of anyplaces within walking distance of the Radisson? Is it reasonably safe there as I have read mixed reviews.

Also, any suggestions of what to do in San Juan for two day before cruise?

Thanks--these message boards are great. Learning a lot from everyone.

We also stayed at the Radisson, and the Pueblo was right up the street, if I recall correctly. We had a car, though, so I can't say how far. I am pretty sure the city bus would pass by it.

However, we did shop at the Walgreens a few times, and it is well within walking distance from the Radisson.

Jacquelyn,

What was your opinion of the Radisson? What else did you do in San Juan during your stay. The only things I heard about are the El Morro fort and rain forest; and I certainly do not want to go to the rain forest (I am leaving Michigan to get some sunshine!! :) )

Hi there!!

There is a Walgreens that is in Ashford Ave that is only 2 blocks down the street and is a very quick walk. Since we were looking for caffeine free diet pepsi as well as some other things, we wanted to be sure there was a better selection, so we opted for the Pueblo grocery store. It seemed like it was quite a few blocks away, so we just cabbed it there and back. I think it was a $6 cab ride each way, but since there were three of us with stuff (multiple 12 packs of soda and water and other things), a cab was better anyway. Plus, we didn't need to worry about finding our way there and back. It was easy to get a cab back; the service desk at the grocery store can call one for you if there isn't one around.

As far as what to do in San Juan...El Morro and Fort San Cristobal are musts. We loved it. Unfortunately, we never had enough time to do Fort San Cristobal. But there's plenty to do in Old San Juan. Just wandering around and looking at all the wonderful architecture and having lunch, or coffee, or a snack in the various eateries. Plus doing a walking tour would be cool to do as well.

The other thing that I heard was cool to do, although I never did it, is the bio-luminecent bay. This is done at night, and I don't know enough about it to give you any info, but it did sound really neat to do (although not cheap as it is a bit of a drive from San Juan).

Thanks all for your responses...

Lynn (lschrage) thanks for all your posts as well--we are definitely looking forward to our trip. We are from Berkley MI and I was hoping to find a store that sold some Labatt Blue for our trip (I know I am fussy or Amstel Light). We have enjoyed reading all your posts and I'll write one too when I get back on 1/24.

Good cruising----Jack

The Pueblo is close to the Hotel but not so to go walking, you need a cab that will cost you between $4 to $6 to get there. Walgreens is closer but the prices of the goods will be higher too. Pueblo have a very good variety and a decent wine cellar with reasonable prices, if that is interested.

Hope this helps.

Hey Jack...

We're practically neighbors! I'm in the Beverly Hills/Royal Oak area off of Greenfield.

I'm jealous that you will be there soon. I'm sick of snow already!

yarcraftman, visit the San Juan link under the "Ports of Call" board - there's lots of info there that you might find useful. Besides the attractions in San Juan itself, the Bioluminescent Bay is supposed to be fantastic, if there's not much of a moon, and the enormous telescope in Arecibo is very interesting to many. Puerto Rico has some fantastic beaches and the island is not that huge - perhaps renting a car for two days will enable you to see it all. Car rentals are not that expensive, especially for smaller cars. Taxis are available to take you everywhere, too. Talk to your hotel folks for some references. After all, this is their business!

Y-

We were in San Juan for 3 days prior to cruiising. One day we went to El Yunque ourselves (we rented a car - much better than taking an organized tour) and then to the Luquillo beach, one day we toured Old San Juan, El Morro fort, and went to the Bacardi rum factory. and the last day we just spent at the beach by the hotel. The Radisson was OK - a small pool area, the rooms were nice, and there is a casino which is open at night.

How far is the Pueblo from the Caribe Hilton?

Is a little far away than the rest of the Hotels, because Caribe Hilton is located outside the Condado Area, Due to the complexity of the streets on that area it is from 8 to 10 minutes away. But Caribe Hilton is the closest of the Hotels to the Panam Pier, where your ship will be.
