Sun City Allan & Sharo Posted November 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 6, 2009 I have a breathing machine for my asthma, and while I rarely have to use it, I'd like to be prepared in case I do. Does anyone know what the wall socket situation is in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and in Santiago, Chile? We will be in hotels for a few nights in both of those cities. Will I need to visit Radio Shack for a converter or two? Thanks in advance for any help.
fcorey Posted November 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 6, 2009 Does your breathing machine have a dual voltage power supply like a laptop? You can tell by the label it will say something like power input 100-240 volts. If it does, then all you will need is an outlet adapter set. In Brazil I came across 2 types of plugs, It will probably be one of these 2, http://electricaloutlet.org/type-c -- this is most common or http://electricaloutlet.org/type-a I usually carry one of these in my carry-on just in case http://www.brookstone.com/7-Piece-Converter-Kit-for-appliances-50-1800-watts.html?his=2~46337~2~root_category@kwd~travel+power+adapter&bkiid=searchResults|C4CategoryProdList1FDT|7284225 you can find them cheaper, or on amazon, but this is the one I have, I think I bought it at the Dallas Fort Worth airport on my way to Sao Paulo in 2008
