Anywhere in Rio for left luggage?

Appreciate if anybody can help with the following information, we arrive in Rio on the Star Princess on the morning of 22nd December 2009 and our flight is not until late that night, we are not with Princess air so we would like to spend the day exploring Rio but do not want to be lumbered with our luggage.

Is there any left luggage facitlies at the cruise port or in town or do any of the local tour operators like Rio airport transfer look after our luggage if we take one of their tours or is there any cheap but secure hotels that I could book a day room.

or any other suggestions are appreciated.

Also any suggestions for companies to do a tour of Rio with?

Many thanks in advance for any information

We are in (on?) the same boat......

and thinking along the same lines.

Maybe we could get together with one or two others and find a room for luggage.

Or does anybody know what the left luggage facilities at Rio airport are?

We had thought that perhaps we would go to Copacabana and (or) Ipanema...

Thanks

we have the same problem but in buenos aires. princess offers to take you to a hotel, with a common waiting lounge, store your luggage, you can shop, etc. then they will take you to the airport when the time comes. this is for the price of transfers $54 a person. we do not have princess air either.

This kind of ship sold service may be suitable for some who cannot otherwise find a way to store luggage during the day time prior to a night flight, but the taxi fare from the pier (and center) in BA to EZE is about $22 so at $54 pp, a couple might do just as well to buy a moderately priced hotel room for the day. Better yet, if one could find another couple to share the hotel room for the day.

There are no airport transportation services in Rio that advertise facilities for the storage of luggage during the day prior to transporting clients to the airport for a night flight. Moreover, moderately priced hotels for a day are somewhat more problematical in Rio than BA, both in terms of price and convenience, especially during the high summer season in late December. GIG airport does have a bag storage facility. The ride from the pier to GIG takes about 20 minutes and will cost $15 each way by easily hailed, licensed cab.

If you plan to hire a private tour guide s/he will probably be able to store the bags in his vehicle or otherwise before dropping you off at the airport. You can also try contacting the hotels that offer post cruise programs to the ship pax to see if they can accommodate you. Also try hotels with which you may have a frequent stay program. Lastly, if you plan to dine at an upscale restaurant you might try contacting them to see if they will store your bags for you. The Marriott and Sofitel, both in Copacabana, have nice restaurants (Le Pre Catulan in the Sofitel is one of the swankest and best in Rio). A tip to the concierge or maitre might facilitate having them hold your luggage prior to your meal and/or after it until you need to collect it. A taxi from Copacabana to GIG is about $25.

I am sure that several of us are in the same position. Please post if you have found a hotel or other secure luggage storage facility. My flight does not leave until 10:30PM on 12/22. I too would like to see something of Rio before I leave
