I was thinking of renting...driving to Miami and going to south beach and than return the car on Thursday morn before th cruise. Any thoughts or ideas...will this be more trouble than its worh ?

Yes, you can do one way rentals. They are usually more expensive but we have done this several times. Try AVIS and Budget for rates.

If you will be in FLL more than one day precruise and just want to visit S. Beach for the day, depending on when you are there, there is a boat that goes from FLL to South Beach and then back again. But it takes all day. A nice outing, but not a way then to get to the port.

We usually rent a car. Alamo has no one way drop fee in Florida and has a free shuttle from the airport to the port of Miami. I think there are a couple of other rental car companies that also provide a shuttle, do a search on the boards. I got a great deal on a car in December through costco.com
