Family Beaches in Cozumel & Costa Maya

PACKMYBAGS

Recommended Posts

We will be traveling to Cozumel and Costa Maya on Oasis this September. We want to find beaches with calm water for our 3yr old and 18 month old. Please let me know if there are any that are within walking distance or if we would be better off taxing taxi on our own or booking an excursion. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Chankanaab had a really nice shallow lagoon for kids, I'm not sure if it's still there. The storms of 2005 and 2006 really beat up the area. Last year we went to Paradise beach. We had a great time.

It does still have the small shallow area. But most of the beach is on a bulkhead, and not suitable for kids that age as there is no sand; you wald down steps carved from the coral to get in.

I have not been to NC, so I can't compair, but we really did like Chankanaab. My kids enjoyed searching for iguanas around the lagoon and running the trails. Of course, nothing topped the dolphin encounter. My youngest was 4 at the time, and while he had daddy hold him, he thought it was neat.

We are going to Nachi Cocom in Cozumel. All the reviews I have read have been FABULOUS!

I just got back from Nachi Cocum with my 3.5 year old. You should be aware that the beach drops off to deep water very quickly. We really couldn't take our eye off out son for even a second there. They do have a nice pool there however.

The beach in town at Costa Maya is absolutely perfect for young children. It is shallow for a long ways out, warm and clear. The sand is nice and restaurants let you use their chairs and shade for free as long as you buy food or drinks from them. We had a perfect beach day there and my son probably never had more fun than he had there that day.
