Westin Gaslamp Quarter

We will be staying at the Westin before and after our cruise. The only thing we have planned is to go to the zoo. Any thing else we should see?

What are our best options for transportation ( SAN to Westin, Westin to cruise terminal, Westin to Zoo)? Any recommendations for restaurants other than those that we might find on the internet. We love exploring local eateries!!

And last but not least, are there any liquor/wine stores close to the hotel.

THANKS for your help L&S :)

Pretty good location, right on the edge of Horton Plaza shopping center (with a large food court). You are just a block from the main downtown bus transit center, which would be an option for getting to Balboa Park and the Zoo, although a cab from there would probably run you $15 or so. You are also only 2 blocks from the San Diego Trolley (light rail) which you can take to Old Town or to within 2 blocks of the pier (it is about 11 blocks). Lots of places to eat in the Gaslamp Quarter which runs just south from there, mostly along 4th, 5th and 6th Avenues.

You are about a block from the Grant Grill at the US Grant Hotel, which is quite nice (but not cheap). There is the Napa Valley Grill at Horton Plaza as well. Dobson's is right across the street, and is a classic politicos and mover-and-shakers restaurant and bar. It is a short walk to Cafe 222 which is one of my favorite places in the downtown area for breakfast, as well as Richard Walker's Pancake House. What kind of food are you looking for?

They have a shuttle to the airport and pier, but there is a charge for this. You could get there from the airport via cab for about $15, and by shared shuttle for about $8 each. From there to the pier is about $10 via cab.

You can take the Trolley to Little Italy or Old Town for many places to eat as well.

There is a Ralph's supermarket at Market and 2nd just south of the shopping mall. In CA you can purchase wine and liquor at the supermarket 7 days/week (except between 2AM-6AM). Other options include the Wine Bank (363 5th Ave # 100, San Diego, CA‎ - (619) 234-7487) and the Bacchus Wine Market (647 G Street, San Diego, CA‎ - (619) 236-0005‎) or Gaslamp Liquor & Deli (837 Market St, San Diego, CA‎ - (619) 233-3867‎)
