Panama on Oceana. Malaria risk?

Just had our info for our cruise in Jan. Says could be malaria risk in Puerto Quetzal. Wondered if anyone else on this cruise is going to take the tablets or will insect repellent be enough? Others have said it will and although we obviously want to be protected I'm not keen on the tablets as a friend had to stop taking them a few years ago as they made her really poorly!:( Perhaps it depends if we intend trekking through the rainforests!

Most Mosquitos are Dawn and dusk feeders and will only bite you in the day if you disturb them. If you are staying out late/overnight is when they advise to take them.

Last time I went to Panama I just applied plenty of insect repellant (DEET max strength), a couple popped into our coach at the Gatun locks and was on the window next to me, I moved my cap (which I'd applied DEET to) towards it and it repelled away quickly :)
