HELP! My wife needs pushing

Hey all, my wife is teetering on saying yes, help give me things to tell her why it's a great idea!

Who: Me, DW, and two Daughters, 4 and 2 1/2 next spring.

I want to go in February on the Spirit to the Mexican Riviera for 8 nights.

I like the price of a 4K, inside with French door that opens to the lifeboats.

DW worries about the open door with the young kids. Also thinks 8 nights may be too long.

We did an 11 nighter a few years ago with just the one daughter at 1 year old. It was a tad too long. It had six ports, this one has three of those six.

We all love the beach, I really like to snorkel.

Will the girls be entertained with the Camp Carnival? Will we be able to go to shows without them? With them? What's the room like with 4 of us? What's that upper berth like? Can I sleep in it, is it long enough for a 5'11" adult?

Fire away!

I think about pushing my wife when we get on the cruise also. Then I think about all of the police reports and other things that would take time away from the cruise and I reconsider. :D

We did the Spirit Mexican Riviera back in October and loved it. Only 3 ports made for a very relaxing cruise. I think that port days are always more tiring than sea days. The only stressful part for us was the wife tested for her 3rd level black belt while on the ship.

I say go for it it will be a wonderful time.

I say go for it and don't worry about the Frech Doors, when you open them they have a railing and a piece of plexiglass that is attached to that so no one can fall out of the door. An 8 day cruise is nice, I am going on it in 2010 when John Heald announces his blogger cruise. Go and have fun with your family. Also the girls will love Camp Carnival, it tells you something when parents go to pick them up and they don't want to leave because they are having so much fun. That is what I noticed when I was on the Pride last year. If you want to look at pictures of the ship, go to www.webshots.com and enter Carnival Spirit in the search box on top and it will bring up pictures that previous passengers have posted.

Those French doors will lock...high enough your children will not be able to reach.

Our previous cruise was 4 days. The last one was 8...just perfect in our eyes. 3 ports, 3 days at sea.

Camp Carnival will take care of your children and will be busy all day long!! ( try and get the youngest potty trained by then if possible, just to make it easier..tho I know that's a tough age!)I do believe they have services available at night so you can go to the shows.

It's the only place in the world you can get a coconut monkey head.

You can always sleep the girls on the pull out sofa, rather than use the berth..they're small enough!! (Put the baby against the wall) or do they like those cute sleeping bags with air mattresses attached to them?

Mom,

GO for it.. you will have a great time. The girls won't remember it, but you will remember their faces for a lifetime!

From,

I say go for it! Like other posters have stated the doors will have a lock that's about eye level to me (6'4 tall so 6'? off the floor). I doubt that either of you would leave the kids in the room alone so make sure to bring up that point to her. Also the railing will be about head high for my 4 year old son for a balcony rail to give you an idea. He's about 40-42" tall. I'd assume te french door railing are the same size due to uniformity for maintenance and more importantly for Coast Guard requirements.

As far as the room with 4 people... You don't honestly think you'll be in the room ALL day long do you? LOL Now your DW and you I might buy but from past experience all you have to do is take your children to camp carnival ONCE (same age group btw) and they'll litterally be begging to go back. We had the same issue with our DD when she was 5 on her first cruise. It was kinda sad but enjoyable to have bought her a new dress for formal and she ended up at the "dinner with friends" in the buffet with camp carnival.

You mention about going to shows. This depends on your children. They are all different. My DD could sit thru a show but my DS wouldn't last 5 minutes w/o being ready to go-go-go. That was one of the nice things I liked about camp carnival. We took DD there on her first cruise and if we were busy whn their regular hours ended they just started her on the babysitting time (fees apply ofcourse). When we were done we'd go pick her up and if she wasn't sleeping she would still resist leaving and that was around midnight.

Ok one more suggestion for you and I'll get off the soap box. Go to the family section of this board and read read read. The people over there know all the cruise lines VERY well and are more than happy to answer any questions or concerns you might have if you can't find the answer yourself.

you can order coconut monkey heads over the internet...so false, but I like your spirit.

She wont have to cook for a week....

She can go to the spa one day and get a massage....

You can send the kids to Camp Carnival for an afternoon and rekindle your relationship...

Thanks, good help all!

Trust me, I've spent too much time here reading! I'm looking for more quotes I can use to e-mail to her as to why she HAS to go on this cruise!

It'll be fun!

No dishes!

No bed making!

No cleaning!

I'll help with the kids. (that's you)

The food will be good!

We can relax! You can read that book you want to read!

The kids will like Club Carnival!

We'll go dancing!

We'll spend only $20 in the casino.

We can go snorkling and sit on a beach where there is no snow or cold!

The kids will have fun!

Just imagine not have to do laundry for a week!

Edit: I forgot: If you don't go, I'll go my myself!

Cruising is the best family vacation. There is something for everyone.

The girls can both go to camp during the day, while you enjoy the pool or what ever else you decide. My boys love the Camp. My 8 year old wakes up early and asks if it's time to go yet. They do close for lunch and reopen afterwards. (just enough time for lunch and a little swim) They also should have miniture golf and movies under the stars.

As far as the shows: get early dinning and camp ends after the 1st show is over. My little one when he was tired would go to the show with us and fall asleep in my lap during the show. Otherwise he would stay at camp and we pick them up after.

If you 2 1/2 is still in diapers camp does change them!!!!! It's also a great time to potty train.

Go for it here is my why's:

1. Deck chair with a drink in hand while kids are at camp

2. Don't have to cook, do dishes, make a bed, or clean for an entire week

3. Have babysitters for the week at no extra charge up till 9pm

4. Beach, pool, Sun!!!!

5. Treat her to the spa for a treatment

6. Visit new places

7. It's a vacation, that is why we work so hard all year to be able to enjoy ourselves

8. Great family bonding time and a vacation that the kids will remember forever!!!!

Good Luck

I'd never try and push someone into anything they don't want to do (especially since they've already tried it once). It could work out fine or be a recipe for disaster.

I hear you! Our first cruise was 11 nights, which we both thought was too long. She isn't being pushed into this, just wants some good reasons to fork out a couple of grand!

We will be on the Spirit in 2 days in a 4K...first for us...booked an inside gty and got upgraded...from pictures I've seen you will be fine...your kids are little...if I lived in SD like you do I'd be on the Spirit as much as I possibly could...too bad I have to fly half way across country...but that isn't stopping me:D..I like this itinerary...3 port days and 4 sea days...couldn't get much better...personally I find that one extra day over an above the 7 days cruises to be "just the ticket" for relaxation...tell her she needs to do it for HERSELF...she deserves a break from her everyday routine and she will so want to go back again and again...and if you book for the 2/7 sailing we'll see you onboard:D

I'd like to know which of the 4K's (those that are quads) has the view between lifeboats. It sounds like 4124 4125 4194 and 4195 do.

Let me know how your cabin was, if it has that in between view, and if it doesn't, peek in everyone else's and let me know!

Have fun!

We had one of those "inside" cabins last year on the Miracle, and we loved it. We never opened the door, though, since there is not balcony; just a railing. We treated the door as if it was a porthole. The door had a latch that was about 5 1/2 ft of the floor in addition to the deadbolt lock that was about 3 ft from the floor. Your children would never be able to reach the top lock without standing on a chair or something. That said, I definitely would not leave the French doors open for any length of time as the railing outside the doors (at least on the Miracle) had only 3 rungs through which a toddler could fall. As I said, we did not open the doors, we just treated them as a window that did not open. Our main reason for booking this cabin was for the extra space---as we normally book a true inside cabin. Good luck to you.

Did you have kids with you, is that why you wouldn't open the door? Does it have more space, I didn't know that?

We did not have kids with us; we simply did not open the door because it did not lead to anywhere (there was no balcony). Since we usually book an inside cabin that has no window of any sort, yes, this cabin was quite a bit bigger. FYI---we had this sort of cabin last year (Dec. '08) when it was still considered and outside (albiet obstructed-view) cabin. Now that the cabin categories have changed, this sort of cabin is considered an inside cabin. Regardless of what Carnival calls it now, it IS an outside cabin in that it has a window (French doors) that open to the outside through which you can see the ocean if you look between the lifeboats.
