pscheet Posted December 7, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 7, 2009 A group of us are traveling to these ports in January. Any recommendations for shore excursions? We would like to book with outside excursion companies for the smaller groups. IDEAS??? Snorkeling, Cave tubing, Ruins and Zip-lines are the activities we are most interested in. Anyone with a positive experience after booking to combine ruins with Zip-Lines in Costa Maya? thanks
susanNjay Posted December 22, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 22, 2009 We have been to all three of these ports and here is what we have done: Costa Maya ... beach day at Pez Quadro (take a taxi to it) good food and cervezas Roatan ... hire a driver for the day through Victor Bodden ... $25 per person...see the island, iguana farm, Fantasy Island, eat lunch at a local place... Belize ... cavetubing dot com ... we have used them multiple times...they also offer an ATV excursion and can accomodate the zipline excursion, too. We have also done snorkeling in Costa Maya which was awesome... You will love these ports...they are awesome! --Susan
Bellfree Bat Posted December 25, 2009 #3 Share Posted December 25, 2009 Costa Maya Tours dot com is great for booking in Costa Maya. Otto is responsice and has a personal relationship with all the operations he books with. Snorkleing from Hotel Maya Luna was reported to be awesome booked thru him. We did a ship tour in Belize and would highly recommend it. Although the bus was full, we were broken into groups of 8-10 for the actual tour. It was a RCCL tour "Raiders of the Lost Mayan Cave" and the operator was "Bak-A-Bush". Safety conscious and had a blast!

susanNjay Posted February 28, 2010 #5 Share Posted February 28, 2010 We snorkeled with an excursion offered through the ship...it was on the Splendor (RCCL). We took a bus to a private beach area along with about 15 other passengers...I have no idea where we were, but it was isolated and beautiful. --Susan
whizkidcat Posted February 28, 2010 #6 Share Posted February 28, 2010 Susan, Was there a hotel or restaurant near the site where you snorkeled? Thanks!
susanNjay Posted February 28, 2010 #7 Share Posted February 28, 2010 No hotels, but there was a bar with drinks (including water and soft drinks) and they had some snack type items for sale. It was a VERY isolated area, but they had showers and changing rooms. --Susan
whizkidcat Posted February 28, 2010 #8 Share Posted February 28, 2010 Would this be a place where you could just get a taxi at port and go by yourself? Or would you suggest booking the cruise line tour?
susanNjay Posted February 28, 2010 #9 Share Posted February 28, 2010 Well, after our first cruise, we decided to book our own excursions, and we have been happy with all of the ones at the stops you are asking about. We have saved a bunch of money and the private excursions are usually smaller with more personalized service. There are private excursion companies there at the pier in Costa Maya that you can use, or you might take a look at the Cruise Critic boards for the ports of call and see who is being recommended...that is how we got started when we wanted to do our own planning...and like I said, we have been happy with our excursions. (We have had one negative experience in the past seven years, but that was in Guatemala). :D --Susan
Friscorays Posted March 3, 2010 #10 Share Posted March 3, 2010 We just returned from Costa Maya and can give the all-inclusive beach day at Maya Chan my highest recommendation. The offer free kayaks out to the reef with guided snorkeling. I posted a review and some pictures to this thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1087631
